Amazingly, Bush Sr. completely insulated himself from any personal consequences regarding Iran-Contra. Like a good mafia don, he had layers and layers of loyal "button men" willing to shut up and take the fall for him.

His good friend Bill Clinton, who by many accounts protected the gun export and cocaine importation leg of this trade as it was conducted out of Mena, Arkansas, ran against Bush for president in 1992, won, and promptly discontinued all further investigation into the Iran-Contra affair.

If you want to take this a little deeper, the folks who were incinerated at Waco by Clinton and Janet Reno very early in Clinton's presidency, had a thriving business converting semi-automatic rifles to automatic ones. It's never been made clear who the customers for these weapons were, but if you look at a map, Waco, Texas is not that far from Mena, Arkansas.

The US sold missiles to Iran, bought guns with the profits and then sent the guns to Central America to support to support a terror war against peasants in the countryside there.

The guns were paid for with cocaine processed by the so-called Contra which was then shipped to the US and sold wholesale to a criminal organization based in Los Angeles that was largely responsible for spreading crack cocaine throughout the nation in the 1980s.

When Bush Jr. took office in 2000, dozens of Iran-Contra operatives came out of the woodwork to join his administration. Fox News gave one of the chief ring leaders, Oliver North, his own TV show.

During the Iran-Contra operation Ronadl Reagan was nominally the president of the United States. In reality, vice president George Bush, Sr - director of the CIA less than ten years before - ran the show.

Children were allowed to live in a Northampton house riddled with animal and human excrement for up to a year without the relevant authorities taking action, an official report has revealed.

Serious concerns were raised more than a year before a couple were finally arrested.

The man had admitted to a social worker in summer 2006 that he had been downloading child pornography but no action was taken.

Investigating police found no evidence of abusive images and no child welfare investigation was ever launched.

It will be interesting to know the impact that this will have on Google. They seem to be eroding their stand of “not being evil”. Increasingly, I see the detrimental effects that being public listed can have on a company’s stand and directions. I don’t think the founders would have anticipated this pressure to maintain profit growth every year when they list the company out.

A sudden change in Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) ’s policy on brand-name advertising in its search results has angered British advertisers, even as it opens up competitive opportunities in search marketing.
From May, Google will allow anybody to buy trademarks as “keywords”, allowing rivals’ sites to appear in sponsored search results when users query a specific brand or company name.

I remember Tintin as a child but mainly from a cartoon series that aired during the summer holidays. Herge’s adventures of Tintin passed me by but when I brought up the subject in the office I was surprised by the number of Tintin fans who suddenly emerged from the woodwork.

Earlier this year in the UK, Tintin was in the headlines but for all the wrong reasons. A human rights lawyer had filed a complaint with the Commission for Racial Equality over the racist content of Tintin in the Congo. Some bookshops removed the book, some shifted the book out of the children’s section.

Clearly Tintin in the Congo is racist but it was written 77 years ago and politically correct writing wasn’t the flavour of the month as colonial Europe geared for another world war.

It doesn't take long for provocateurs to crawl out of the woodwork to attack candidates, especially in stealth attacks. With Fred Thompson, they've apparently started before he officially enters the race -- and in one case, race is the operative word. Apparently hoping to confuse web surfers looking for Fred's website at www.imwithfred.com, a new site has appeared at www.imwithfred2008.com -- only this site welcomes people to the Ku Klux Klan, "Bringing a Message of Hope and Deliverance to White Christian America!" It includes links to a variety of disgusting racist sites.

Ed tracked down the domain name and traced it back to a Henry Reynolds of Santa Monica, Calif. It turns out that Mr. Reynolds is a lawyer and donated money to MoveOn, DNC Services and John Kerry according to OpenSecrets.org.

But wait, it gets better. Mr. Reynolds got a bit spooked and changed the domain name info and now the site -- imwithfred2008.com -- links to John Edwards' official campaign website.
