Who wears the pants at Sky Harbor airport?

Not 30 Somali women who fought for the right to wear skirts on the job, and won.

The Muslim women balked at a planned policy change by their employer, GCA Services, (that's GCA's logo pictured above), that would have forced them to wear pants and a tucked-in shirt as they did their janitorial duties.

They'd been previously allowed to wear skirts; pants are too immodest for them.

Lisa Gopolan, a spokesperson for CAIR's Arizona office, says she wears blue jeans occasionally and that the decision to wear pants or not is a personal decision. The Somali women are expressing their culture as well as their religion in wanting to wear skirts, and she didn't think other Muslim women who work at the airport would necessarily demand different attire.

Tags: muslims, islam, islamofascism

<clipSource>http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2008/08/sky_harbor_allows_special_clot.php</clipSource>

You no vote.

It's not enough to just vote, so I propose a new slogan for 2008: "If you don't help, then you can't complain."

The slogan comes from an interesting conversation I had this week with some politically-active friends of mine. One of my friends had attended a "Women's Caucus" event of some sort early in the week during the Democratic National Convention. She said that there were many great speeches from a number of powerful, high-profile women, but the speech that really stood out was from a woman who was a political activist, and not an elected official. Her closing words, and I'm paraphrasing, went something like this:

"On Election Day, we will get what we deserve. If we work hard, we will deserve to win. If we just cast our votes and sit on the sidelines for everything else, we will deserve to have lost."

Tags: no vote

<clipSource>http://denver.yourhub.com/Littleton/Stories/Sound-Off/Politics/Story~514028.aspx</clipSource>

Cree Regalia

clipped by: dawnskarma

Clip Source: www.shannonthunderbird.com

CLOTHING:

tanned caribou hide in winter; moose hide in summer. Both men and women
wore buffalo robes all year around. The robes were historical art, in
		the sense the warriors often painted images of their exploits on them;
some were beaded and quilled. Quillwork was a beautiful art form
developed by the Cree to decorate their clothing. Later beadwork
replaced the quills. Men wore breechcloth tied on with a belt.
Leggings were held on by a tie that looped over the belt. Women
were animal hide dresses, usually made of only two pieces of hide laced
together. Women's leggings went only to the knee and tied there.
Winter moccasins were often made from moose with the hair on the inside
to act as insulation. The moccasins were also a little larger so
that grasses could be stuffed inside to act as a further heat retention
source. (Photo at left is a 19th picture showing a combination of

So what's the difference?

If a town was designed solely for women, how would it look?

If you think it would have more nail bars, shoe shops and coffee shops selling skinny lattes, then think again.

Travel is one example. Studies show women make more complex journeys than men, dropping children off at school, going to work, getting the shopping before going home.

In contrast, men tend to just travel straight to work and back again.

Women tend to worry about their safety at night more and want better lighting in public spaces. Billions and billions of dollars have been spent to create a fat, bloated bureaucracy that appears at times to have done as much to harm to the lives of women as it has done to help, and soon that bureaucracy will be asking for more money.

Please see eluris.typepad.com/best_interests or contact ajt@web20mates.com for more information.

Clip Source: mensnewsdaily.com

VAWA - One of the Biggest Taxpayer Fleecings in the History of America

At a recent Domestic Violence Council Conference in San Diego, one thing that was hammered home by one of the event's speakers was the fact that, during the past ten years, the rate of domestic violence homicides for women has remained relatively constant. Curiously, this has occurred during a time in our society that I would characterize as a Draconian, domestic violence, "arrest fest" of America's men. Often men have been arrested for the most trivial of things, such as throwing a pencil, or a "perceived threat" alleged by a female intimate. The speaker at the conference preached that the real reason behind domestic violence was "the violent nature of men," and that more Draconian efforts were needed. Of course, more arrests would give the appearance of a bigger problem, requiring more government funding.

Tags: domestic violence, feminist, violence against women, vawa, taxpayer fleecings, men, fathers, abuse

<clipSource>http://mensnewsdaily.com/archive/a-b/blumhorst/2005/blumhorst032105.htm</clipSource>

Women Are in Charge at Home

clipped by: Catshade

Clip Source: www.livescience.com

"The study at least suggests that the marriage is a place where women can exert some power," said lead author David Vogel, a psychologist at Iowa State University (ISU). "Whether or not it's because of changing societal roles, we don't know.”

Wives were more demanding—asking for changes in the relationship or in their partner—and were more likely to get their way than the husbands. This held regardless of who had chosen the issue.

Wife power could signal a harmonious couple. "There's been research that suggests that's a marker of a healthy marriage—that men accept influence from their wives," Murphy said.

The results counter past research.

“Most of the research literature in psychology has suggested that women have less power,” Vogel told LiveScience. “They have largely based that on the fact that traditionally men earn more money and so therefore would have the ability to make big decisions in the relationship.” That wasn’t the case in this study.

While this can sometimes be done for the sake of ‘insurance’, in other situations, such as when the corpus luteum isn’t functioning correctly, a lack of supplementation can prevent a successful pregnancy by bringing the luteal phase to a premature end.

Keep in mind that progesterone has its limitations: It alone can not correct shortened luteal phases

Tags: fertility, progesterone, menstruation

<clipSource>http://www.conceivingconcepts.com/learning/articles/progesterone.html</clipSource>

selling to women

clipped by: bjkeltz

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

I believe that if women-focused sites want to be successful, they need to start building specific to the audience. Since April 2008, five more U.S. military women have died in Iraq—three in noncombat-related incidents. Ninety-nine U.S., six British and one Ukrainian military women and 13 U.S. female civilians have been killed in Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as probably hundreds of thousands of Iraqi women and girls. Of the 99 U.S. military women, 64 were in the Army active component, nine in the Army National Guard, seven in the Army Reserve, seven in the Marine Corps, nine in the Navy and three in the Air Force. According to the Department of Defense, 41 of the 99 U.S. military women who have been killed in Iraq died in “noncombat-related incidents.” Of the 99 U.S. military women killed in the Iraq theater, 41 were women of color (21 African-Americans, 16 Latinas, three of Asian-Pacific descent and one Native American—data compiled from the Web site www.nooniefortin.com).

From
being the perfect wife to being a super mom, women today have carved a niche for
themselves in every possible field – be it glamour, aviation, sports,
politics, business or defence. But when it comes to raking in the moolah, men
are often stereotyped as the breadwinner of the family or being expected to earn
more than women.

Do you think 'gender

can and helps with the kids' homework and other household tasks besides helping
in meeting the family's expenses".

Grand slam, out of the ballpark, across the street. Across the buildings across the street. Five, six, maybe seven campaign slogans in that speech. Starting out from the getgo, a sock to the jaw of about disunity, a speech that started about Barack Obama, a proud supporter about Barack Obama. Then a lot about her, some about George Bush, twist will it all back to get her supporters to recognize that their goals are now best served by Barack Obama. Then Michelle, then Biden, then several key, strongest hits against John McCain we've heard at this convention and finally tying it all back together. I don't know how it could have been better.

Clip Source: www.glennbeck.com

Olbermann continues to gush

OLBERMANN: If that was to be more about tone than content, pitch perfect. If it was supposed to be more about content than tone, pitch perfect. If that was supposed to be about friendliness and what they call accessibility, couldn't have done it better. Couldn't have done it better. And the premise of this speech, to try to erase doubts that now seem difficult to voice aloud because they seem almost foolish, that could not have gone better for them. That could not have gone better for them. It's wonderful. It really was terrific. The women in that convention hall, there were tears throughout among the women. And it was not a modeling speech, it was not a salesmanship speech. There was just a I know. I'm beginning to sound borderline sickophantic on this.
