It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

As recently as July, state wildlife agency personnel in Alaska staked out a known wolf denning site -- a practice that is illegal under Alaska law -- and, using helicopters, gunned down 14 adult wolves from the air.
When they landed, they found the 14 helpless pups in the nearby dens -- just weeks old -- and methodically shot each one in the head. 28 wolves gunned down in all.

Congress passed a law thirty five years ago to put an end to aerial hunting. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in federal law to resume the practice, not only for wolves, but bears as well. Hundreds of scientists have condemned what Alaska is doing, even as other states threaten to follow Alaska's lead.

<clipSource>http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/477616584?z00m=16450588</clipSource>

Moon Phases

clipped by: Azholio

Clip Source: www.enchantedlearning.com

January Moon After Yule, Wolf Moon, or Old Moon

According to CNN, Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) pulled out of a scheduled interview with the network after a segment with Campbell Brown and a top McCain spokesman Monday night in which Brown asked for examples of a foreign-policy decision made by Republican vice president pick Sarah Palin.

McCain was scheduled to appear on Larry King Live, but CNN's Wolf Blitzer said Tuesday that the campaign told the news network they thought Brown's interview with spokesman Tucker Bounds was "over the line."

CNN said it disagreed and it is committed to covering both sides of issues.

Scientists studied the eating habits of wolf packs in British Columbia.

Deer is the staple food of the wolves in the spring and summer but they often injure themselves hunting them.

When Pacific salmon return to the region's rivers to spawn in the autumn, the wolves prefer the taste of the more nutritious and easier to catch fish.

The researchers studied the droppings and hair of eight wolf groups over four years to discover what they ate.

They had expected the wolves to switch to salmon only if deer were in short supply but this was not the case.

"Selecting benign prey such as salmon makes sense from a safety point of view," wrote Dr Chris Darimont, from the University of Victoria, BC, and his colleagues in the journal BMC Ecology.

Nothing happened in the interview that required retribution. He just didn't like anyone pulling off the mask on his awful vice presidential pick.

The "punishment" is a shot over the bow to the press warning them to back off asking difficult questions. Sadly, the press probably will back off. Who wants to risk losing future interviews and exclusives? It's bad for business.

Clip Source: thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com

Hey, what did Larry King ever do to anybody?

Nothing, said aides to Senator John McCain. Still, Mr. McCain will no longer be sitting down with Mr. King on CNN on Tuesday. He canceled a long-scheduled interview with Larry King of CNN as punishment for what his aides said was an unfair interview of a McCain campaign spokesman by the network host Campbell Brown on Monday night.

Wolf Blitzer, the CNN anchor, announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, saying, “A senior McCain adviser tells CNN the interview has been pulled because of a segment CNN ran last night during Campbell Brown’s ‘Election Central’.”

<clipSource>http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/mccain-cancels-larry-king-interview/?partner=rssyahoo&emc=rss</clipSource>

Do wolves really howl at the moon?

clipped by: fewstingscorpio
clipper's remarks: I do too...Do you?
Full article:http://animals.howstuffworks.com/mammals/wolves-howling-at-moon.htm

Clip Source: animals.howstuffworks.com

Inside this Article

"No need to worry," you think as you close your eyes, "that old canine is just yapping at the moon."

Many ancient civilizations stretching back to the Neolithic Age continually paired wolves with the moon in images and literature, which eventually evolved into today's popular belief.

Tags: animal, wolves, canine_behavior, animal_behavior, mythology, barking

<clipSource>http://animals.howstuffworks.com/mammals/wolves-howling-at-moon.htm</clipSource>

Two Wolves - Cherokee Wisdom

clipped by: milmufmas

Clip Source: www.wow4u.com

A Motivational Story with Wisdom -
Two Wolves

Cherokee Wisdom
.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Your signatures are working – there are over 125 co-sponsors of the Protect America’s Wildlife (PAW) Act in Congress now!

But as we are making progress in Congress, there is unfortunately some sad news to report. On Tuesday, Alaska voters defeated a ballot initiative that would have ended the state's brutal aerial hunting program. This news, on top of the recent brutal and illegal killing of 14 wolf pups shows how much we still need to do to protect our wildlife.

That is why we need your help. As we prepare for another bloody aerial hunting season in Alaska, we must redouble our efforts to pass the PAW Act. Please spread the word and help us end aerial hunting of wolves forever – ask three friends to sign our petition today!

Please ask three friends to join you in signing our petition to Congress today: http://go.care2.com/e/9B4d/VWUW/AK9dW

<clipSource>http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&view=bsp&ver=1qygpcgurkovy</clipSource>

Ten Steps To Tyranny

clipped by: moonspirit4ever

Clip Source: www.obsidianhustle.com

Naomi Wolf, recently penned a book The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot, which is basically a call to arms for citizens of the United States.

Basically, she chronicles the ten steps that occurred prior to the rise of the Nazi's, and shows that those same 10 steps are in process here, and now.

Invoke an internal and external threat - This one is fairly obvious. The irony of this is that, without the pundits discussing these things, no one would've seen them.

In fact, I saw Wolf Blitzer discussing this very free media story, during which he ran McCain's ad!

Liberal media my ass.

Clip Source: politicalwire.com

According to a group that monitors political advertising across the country, only one of the three Hillary Clinton-themed ads attacking Sen. Barack Obama has been broadcast so far --- and that ad, featuring a Clinton delegate who now endorses McCain is only airing in Toledo, Ohio, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The monitoring firm says they are "basically video press releases."

Tags: news

<clipSource>http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/08/26/mccains_hillary-themed_ads_not_run.html</clipSource>
