clipper's remarks: I've noticed that the mainstream media still handles McCain with kid gloves. I wonder why that is...? OK, he was a POW, captured by an "enemy" of our government. But why should that give him a one-upmanship over Obama... as far as fair reporting is concerned? Maybe corporate media has more to gain under republican rule or maybe it's just that they fear a McCain attack because they've taken note of how McMean and his Cold-Hearted-VP pick's, mean-spirited, hateful innuendoes launched against Obama have stirred the "Republican base of loathing", to get "physical" with any contrived foe. I believe it's both but they've got the case of the willies when it comes to the ornery right-wing mentality, knowing they might band together and threaten not to buy the goods their sponsors hawk!

It isn't surprising that the conventional wisdom is that the news media have turned on Sen. John McCain. After all, decades of attacks from conservatives have conditioned reporters to believe that they are biased against Republicans -- even when there is scant evidence in the reporting to support such claims. And the McCain campaign has launched an all-out assault on the media, complaining relentlessly about the coverage its candidate has gotten.

McCain historically has been the recipient of the most favorable media coverage of any politician in modern American history

they uncritically quote McCain campaign attacks on Sen. Barack Obama for things McCain himself has done.

When a campaign does something like this, the media often point out the hypocrisy, and the attack backfires. But those rules don't apply to John McCain.

Making a mockery of jihad

Recent terror attacks in India and abroad have created an impression that jihad is central to Koranic teaching

jihad does not mean war in the Koran as there are other words for it like qital and harb. Jihad has been used in the Koran in its root meaning: to strive for betterment of society, to spread goodness

and contain evil

But supposing jihad means war, as some Muslims believe, even then it still isn't central to Koranic teachings. The word "jihad" occurs in the Koran 41 times though not a single verse uses it in

the sense of war.

The four most fundamental values in the Koran are justice

benevolence

compassion

and wisdom

One who fails to practice these values can hardly claim to be a true Muslim

It can be said that compassion is most central to Koranic teachings. The words "compassion" and "mercy" in their various forms occur in the Koran 335 times

To seek revenge is human weakness, not strength

jihad can be declared only by the state

The reason is Obama has learned all the wrong lessons from the "swift boat" debacle of 2004. Conventional wisdom in Washington holds that if you do not counter false claims made by your opponent in the media, you will get pummeled in the polls.

That's total bunk. John Kerry lost in 2004 not because he was "swift boated"-- which assumes he was a brilliant campaigner and candidate, if it just weren't for those pesky war vets. No, Kerry got spanked in 2004 because he has the personality of the thimble.

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Ryohei Hase’s words of wisdom “My strongest area is realistic fantasy art…trying to express feelings which difficult to show in words.“

These disturbingly beautiful illustrations of feral animal-headed people were made by the freakishly talented Tokyo-based Illustrator/Designer, Ryohei Hase. His portfolio comprises of very dark and ‘polished’ (photoshoped) artworks, each with meticulous structure hidden inside what are seemingly chaotic images that aren’t random by any means. Most of his works are fantasy art, which he says is his strongest area of artistry. Although his work does have a fantasy art feel to it, I would say he brings his art to fruition with a bit more style than most fantasy artists, plus he has a few very nice commercial pieces weaved into his gallery.
