The use of greenery at Christmas time is a beautiful old custom. Holly and mistletoe are two evergreens that are inseparably connected with Christmas, in fact, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without them!

Holly and mistletoe can be bought in local street markets in the run up to Xmas, or if you are lucky enough to have a large garden or live near woods, you may be able to gather them yourself.

English mistletoe has large white berries and grey-green leaves whereas American mistletoe is olive green and the berries form large clusters. Both types grow by attaching themselves to large trees. Legend has it that mistletoe was used by the mysterious celtic Druids of Wales in their festive rites at the time of the winter solstice, and thus, like many Xmas traditions, is pagan in origin.

Ed Drake, 23, has been a full time member of the British Team for the last five years, and is currently ranked sixth in the world for his age group and in the top 50 overall. From Kingston, Surrey, Ed has skied since the age of three - dry ski slope racing, interspersed with family ski holidays in his favorite resort in Morzine, France, led to Ed joining the Kandahar Ski Club, the world’s oldest racing ski club. He has risen steadily through the ranks of British skiing, winning the British Junior Championship and the Individual British Championship. Despite a hip operation in 2006, Ed bounced back and his most recent successes including finishing in the top thirty in both the Downhill and Super G at Val d'Isere in the 2009 World Championships, and winning the Giant Slalom and Super G titles at the 2009 British Championships.

The state's thinking in its Ocean Management Plan, mandated by the Ocean Act of 2008, appears to run contrary to the prowind and renewable energy policy of Governor Deval Patrick's administration, when Mass Audubon surveys have revealed similar numbers of winter sea ducks near Martha's Vineyard where its bird counters have not been as forthcoming with their data as Nantucket. As a result, the state delineated two sites south of that island where up to 166 wind turbines could be built per site. Not that Nantucket wants such a large project off its shores, but Vorce said the town should have the ability to at least build the smaller community wind farm.
