Extraordinary as it may seem, wombat droppings – yes wombat droppings - are helping an industrial city in Australia fight the economic downturn.

Round upon round of job cuts have blighted the city of Burnie, in the north-west of the state of Tasmania. But one local industry is fighting back by producing handmade paper out of wombat poo.

Tourists have been keen to snap up the novelty paper as a unique souvenir of Australia – and the wombat, a furry marsupial which lives in the wild. Wombats' diets are loaded with plant fibre which make their faeces ideal for making the paper.

Manufacturer Creative Paper says it can be unpleasant – but for the delighted visitors, it's clearly worth it. All the paper is made from the dung of a single animal called Nugget.

<clipSource>http://optimistworld.com/Wombat-droppings-Australian-paper-manufacturer-boost-the-economy/</clipSource>

Girls Gone Wild Over Beer Kits

clipped by: beerbrewingsupplies
clipper's remarks: A very funny video.

Clip Source: homebrewkits.wordpress.com

Tags: beer kits, brewing kits, homebrew kits, beer making kits, beer brewing kits

<clipSource>http://homebrewkits.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/homebrew-kits-video/</clipSource>

The official pending merger of DHS, FEMA, NORTHCOM and law enforcement agencies and associations

clipped by: nuttyriv3r

Clip Source: www.newswithviews.com

June 26, 2009

by NWV News, Jim Kouri

The

Demure guest host Monica Crowley seemed bemused by the Minnesota outcome. But Glenn Beck, in his semiliterate way, heaped on enough abuse to keep Billo's fans satisfied for the moment. "It shows how crazy our country has gone," he began. "It shows that we've lost our minds. It's like we've slipped through a wormhole. It's like, this look likes the country I grew up in, but no -- Al Franken would never be a senator … We have entered a place to where there isn't statesmanship anymore."

Clip Source: www.salon.com

July 3, 2009 | It wasn't surprising when, after seven months of legal wrangling, the Minnesota Supreme Court declared that Al Franken had won the 2008 Senate race against incumbent Norm Coleman. Still less surprising (although vastly more entertaining) was the simultaneous breakdown of nearly all of Franken's adversaries on the right, whose regurgitated insults, whining complaints and exploding noggins revealed nothing about him or his victory -- and everything about them.

Upon learning that Franken had prevailed in a unanimous decision by his home state's highest court, the usual suspects on Fox News Channel and in the Limbaugh wasteland of radio immediately threw up a barrage of furious invective. Wasting no time on gracious concessions, they concentrated on two themes. First: Franken himself is wild, spiteful, menacing, bigoted and, most of all, deranged (as must be anyone who voted for him).

Tags: franken, senator, far, right, goes, bannanas, talk, hate, radio

<clipSource>http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2009/07/03/al_franken/?source=newsletter</clipSource>

Climate change shrinks sheep

clipped by: Lead researcher Tim Coulson, from Imperial College London, said: "The island is almost like a natural laboratory - there are only the sheep and the vegetation there.

"In the past, only the big, healthy sheep and large lambs that had piled on weight in their first summer could survive the harsh winters on Hirta."

But because of climate change, grass for food was now available for more months of the year on the island.

<clipSource>http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_3387112.html?menu=news.quirkies</clipSource>

Wild Travels

clipped by: She wanted just the right spot to leave the body. She found it among blueberry and juniper bushes, and gently placed the female snake's body in the fragrant brush. Respectfully, she covered it with moss and leaves. On this cloudless July day, the dark waters of Georgian Bay sparkled in the distance. Standing with Park Warden Scott Sutton, the two funeral attendees faced west, the doorway to the Ojibway spirit world. Sprinkling an offering of sacred tobacco on the burial site, she recited a final prayer of thanks and farewell in Ojibway.

It all began the previous summer, when a visitor to Georgian Bay Islands National Park deliberately killed a Massasauga rattler.

“When you're out picking blueberries and you hear that rattle, it's a signal for you to stop

Snakes of the North

Share Your Encounters in the Wild!

national parks

<clipSource>http://travel.sympatico.msn.ca/Encounters+in+the+Wild+Spirit+Rattler/parks_canada/encounters_in_the_wild_spirit_rattler.htm?isfa=1</clipSource>

"We Now Have A Total Gangster Government"

clipped by: pecksnif
clipper's remarks: Rep. Rep.
Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) speaking on the House floor: Now weve moved
into the realm of gangster government. We have gangster government when
the Federal Government has set up a new cartel and private businesses
now have to go begging with their hand out to their local hopefully well
politically connected Congressman or their Senator so they can buy a
peace offering for that local business. Is that the kind of country we
are going to have in the future?
That loophole has now been closed, following a federal judge’s ruling in a lawsuit brought by the organization Friends of Animals, based on Darien, Conn.

The ruling protects U.S.-bred scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah), addax (Addax nasomaculatus), and dama gazelles (Nanger dama), all of which are critically endangered in their African homelands, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Until now, American sport hunters could pay $3,500 to hunt and kill a scimitar-horned oryx—and even more for an addax or dama gazelle—and keep the carcasses as trophies. International travel to accomplish the same task has long been banned by the Endangered Species Act and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna

Tags: news, animals, endangered-species, african, american-ranches, trophy-hunters, lawsuit, friends-of-animals, threatened, spiecies

<clipSource>http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/60-second-science/post.cfm?id=endangered-african-antelopes-win-pr-2009-06-29</clipSource>

World first Android Netbook- Skytone Alpha680

clipped by: rj3sp

Clip Source: www.engadget.com

Android-based Alpha 680 netbook spotted in the wild

Clip Source: www.ixibo.com

In addition to the QWERTY keyboard, the device offers a touchpad and dual game keys.

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

Tags: netbook, android, skytone, computers, alpha 680,

<clipSource>http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/12/android-based-alpha-680-netbook-spotted-in-the-wild/</clipSource>

Why We Love Wild Penny Stocks ... in a Recession

clipped by: allenmass
clipper's remarks: For more details visit us at Penny Stocks

Clip Source: www.fool.com

Why We Love Wild Penny Stocks ... in a Recession

Even the nihilists out there (anyone?) will be disheartened by this: A new nationwide survey finds that "top economists expect the already deep recession to get even worse this year."

That bad news, coming during a bear market that's decimated just about every stock investor's portfolio, can only mean one thing.

It's time for penny stocks
Stocks were down some 40% in 2008 and are down an additional 25% to start '09, so we can think of only one move to make right now. Elephant sanctuary was definitely the highlight. The guide organised for me to have the last ride and got to go straight into the river on the elephant. Would definitely recommend this tour to others.

Clip Source: www.viator.com

Private Tour: Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary Day Tour from Kuala Lumpur

Visit the Elephant Conservation Farm at Kuala Gandah - only one and a half
