Researchers in Malaysian Borneo have captured the world’s most elusive and endangered cat on film. The beautiful Bornean bay cat, Catopuma badia, is so rare; a live cat was not even photographed until 1998!

Although the amazing video only lasts seven seconds, the chestnut-red cat with the long tail can be clearly seen walking through the forest. Because so little is known about this particular wild cat, even its eating habits are unknown.

Endemic to the forests of Borneo, threats to this elusive animal include illegal pet trade, poaching, deforestation and habitat loss largely due to palm oil plantations. Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, it is estimated that only 2,500 Bornean bay cats remain in the wild today.

Baldrick with a fellow rescue hedgehog at the centre

A bald hedgehog abandoned by his mother in a garden in Norfolk is being treated at a wildlife rescue centre in a bid to encourage his spikes to grow.

Baldrick, named after the character from the television programme Blackadder, was brought to Foxy Lodge wildlife rescue centre, Great Yarmouth.

He is now being cared for by Tonia and John Garner in the hope he can be eventually released into the wild.

Treatment includes antiseptic scrubs and baby oil massages.

Mr Garner told the BBC News website that Baldrick was spotted in a garden being pushed along by its mother.

He said: "They are not very good parents in the wild and if they have a family of six babies, about two will never make it."

Baldrick's mother eventually took her other babies away, abandoning her bald son who ended up at the wildlife centre.

Mr Garner said when Baldrick was brought in in August aged about six weeks he weighed 240g, but is now up to about 800g.

Thousands of protesters arrived by bus for the rally, which the GOP is calling an emergency “House Call.” The event drew the conservative “tea party” activists but unlike past rallies was officially sanctioned by House Republicans.

Republicans want those who attend to track down their elected representatives in Congress and put pressure on them to think twice about voting for the more than $1 trillion health care overhaul pushed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“They’re going to listen,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., who originally called for the rally. “The biggest voice in the United States is your voice.”

A pair of notorious man-eating lions were killed after they munched on several workers in Kenya over a months-long stretch of the building of the Ugandan Railway in 1898. The story grew to claim 135 victims. A new study suggests there may have been up to 72, though the count might have been lower.

"One of the two large male lions was getting nearly one-third of its diet from human meat, while the other about half that much," Reuters reports.

Lions prefer wild game and are generally wary of humans. They are thought to turn to people for food when other meals ar scarce and, in this case, the lions themselves may have been less than healthy and incapable of hunting properly, according to a summary of the research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

In October 2007, Dennis and his team of 11 men were in Iraq patrolling the Syrian border. One day, as his team arrived at a border fort, they encountered a pack of stray dogs

"We all got out of the Humvee and I started working when this dog came running up," recalls Dennis. "I said, 'Hey buddy' and bent down to pet him." Dennis noticed the dog's ears had been cut. "I said, 'You got little nubs for ears.'" The name stuck. The dog whose ears had been shorn off as a puppy by an Iraqi soldier (to make the dog "look tougher," Dennis says) became known as Nubs.

At night, Nubs accompanied the men on night patrols
