India were run close by the West Indies in the first one-day international. It was too close for comfort and it made the skipper say that he thought his team had become relaxed after the seventh West Indian wicket had fallen. The West Indies had Denesh Ramdin still at the crease and as we have seen all it takes is for a tailender to bat sensibly and give the more accomplished batsman more of the strike and the impossible looks possible. The champion West Indies teams of the 70s and 80s had players like these and who can forget the last wicket stand between the incomparable Viv Richards and Michael Holding when they added more than 100 runs with Richards ending up unbeaten on 189 and West Indies, who were down in the dumps till Holding joined him, ended up with a score nearer 300. Luckily for the Indians the current West Indies team does not seem to have the same winning habit as those great teams of the past and so India were able to scrape through with a 20 runs margin.

Wow. The England players have broken out of their jubilant huddle, and are now shaking hands with the Australian side, who have come down to the pitch to meet them. Again the crowd break into choruses of 'Super, sup-er Fred', and he leads the team off.

WICKET! Hussey 121 c Cook b Swann (103rd over: Australia 348) Swann stands at the end of his run, a little chagrined perhaps that he has to bowl to Hussey. OR NOT! ENGLAND HAVE WON THE ASHES! Swann takes the final wicket, Hussey turning the ball off his hip straight to short leg. The game is over, the series is over and England have won!

Cricketer caught in his pants

A cricketer was caught in his underwear when he should have been walking out to bat.

Team-mates at Bournemouth Cricket Club tried to find the player named only as Ed, 18, some extra cover so he could play his part.

But the teenager ran out to bat clutching his box and a helmet.

His state of undress was not allowed and he was sent back to the pavilion after receiving a rare 'timed out' dismissal for taking more than three minutes to get to the wicket.

Despite his mistake, Bournemouth went on to secure a draw in their Southern Premier League match with Havant.

Bournemouth captain De Weymarn told the Metro: "It's something I had never seen before in my life and I'm sure a lot of cricketers would probably say the same.

"It's certainly an unusual way for a batsman to get out but it's within the laws.

"Ed is particularly frustrated with himself and so he should be because it should never happen.

The England Women's Cricket Team is having a very successful time of it having held The Ashes by virtue of drawing with the Australian Women's team in a one-off Ashes Test at Worcester this week.

With the match finely balanced and Australia going into the last day with a 169 overnight lead, the weather played it's part. After 30 overs and with the fall of the last Australian wicket, and a new lead of 272 the heavens opened and 5 overs were docked from the days total leaving England chasing 273 from 76 overs to win the match and Australia looking for ten wickets.

When looking back at today, the Australia captain Ricky Ponting can look at a job well done. Both he and opener Simon Katich enjoyed a second wicket partnership of 189 both scoring unbeaten centuries.

At the close, the Australia cricket team had had amassed a total of 249 for one in reply to England's 435 all out, with Ponting on 100 and Katich on 104.

Ponting took a quick single to reach his 38th Test hundred whilst at the same time becoming the fourth cricketer to score 11,000 runs in test cricket.

WASHINGTON -- A U.S. appeals court reversed a ruling Wednesday that would have transferred 17 Guantanamo Bay detainees, none of whom are labeled enemy combatants, to the United States.

The ruling casts further uncertainty on the fate of the Turkic Muslims from western China.

Because there is no evidence they plotted or fought against the United States, the government has no authority to hold them at Guantanamo Bay. But figuring out what to do with the men has been a diplomatic problem for years.

The military says the men have ties to a militant group that demands separation from China. The United States will not release the Uighurs to their home for fear they will be tortured. Earlier this month, Beijing warned other countries not to accept the men, setting up a diplomatic roadblock in President Barack Obama's plan to close the facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a year.

Laser pointer incident mars Australia’s win

Despite cruising to a 6-wicket win over South Africa in Brisbane, it is sad that we should be talking about how a laser pointer incident mars Australia’s win!

The match was played in Brisbane at the Gabba ground, the incident occurred in the Australian innings when they were chasing 158 to win. In the 18th over the Australian batsman Mike Hussey hit a shot in the air towards long-off; Wayne Parnell the South African fielder ran in towards long-off hoping to make the catch, but he dropped the ball.

Television replays showed that as Parnell approached the ball, someone had shone a Green laser pointer in his eyes that may have distracted him.

Parnell spoke to the British media a commenting that he saw a green flash with a bright light pointed straight at him, coming from the stands.

Other Australian cricket grounds have been put on high alert to ensure similar incident do not occur in other matches.
