Chauvinism is an almost natural product of the national concept insofar as it springs directly from the old idea of the "national mission." ... (A) nation's mission might be interpreted precisely as bringing its light to other, less fortunate peoples that, for whatever reason, have miraculously been left by history without a national mission. As long as this concept did not develop into the ideology of chauvinism and remained in the rather vague realm of national or even nationalistic pride, it frequently resulted in a high sense of responsibility for the welfare of backward peoples.

Animal neglect charges dropped

James Louis Denoyer, 52, of Westport pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of improper disposal of a dead animal. The 36 counts of felony animal neglect were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

This concludes the December 2005 saga of 36 malnourished and neglected horses seized from Denoyer's property in the Westport area. As part of the plea, Denoyer agreed to own no more than four horses in the future, to keep county authorities apprised of where they are kept, to have a licensed veterinarian inspect them every three months sending reports to authorities, as well as semi-annual inspections by a county veterinarian.

Philadelphia funeral home admits plundering corpses, selling stolen body parts

PHILADELPHIA - Two brothers who ran a pair of funeral homes and a crematorium admitted Tuesday that they sold corpses to a company that trafficked stolen body parts, a macabre scheme that left families aghast and unclear about the fate of their loved ones.

Louis and Gerald Garzone pleaded guilty to charges including conspiracy, theft, abusing corpses and welfare fraud.

The brothers allowed at least 244 corpses to be carved up without families' permission and without medical tests, prosecutors said. Skin, bones, tendons and other parts — some of them diseased — were then sold around the country for dental implants, knee and hip replacements, and other procedures.

Some bodies were only torsos by the time the hacking was done, said Assistant District Attorney Evangelia Manos.

In Philadelphia, Mastromarino paid the Garzones and their partner, James McCafferty, more than $245,000 for at least 244 cadavers between February 2004 and October 2005, prosecutors said.

clipper's remarks: I'd LOVE to have immunity on CM but heck lemme address what I think is "kinky" about GOP "family values" instead of the dreaded F word. (and I meant fudge) I find it profane that they are busy wasting people's lives and treasure on a war for political and oil industry profit. I find it obscene they they have bankrupted the government to pay for tax breaks for the rich, corporate welfare and an insane cold war military style buildup. I find it dirty that they have ignored the Constitution. I find it immoral that they tell us what we really need are some "moral values" issues to shroud their wickedness in Godliness; to keep what they are really up to out of sight and out of mind and out of the news at all costs. I find poverty offensive. I find injustice, racism, sexism, and homophobia offensive. But most of all I find the greed of empire offensive. Oh, F U D G E . . .

Dirty, cuss, curse, and four-letter are just some of the ways we describe those little words that those of us who are righteous and holy would surely never ever use.

We boycott movies based on them. We boycott music based on these words.

It is the gift of profanity immunity

These brave souls have protected countless millions of believing Christians from the symptoms of hearing too many of these terrible words.

As a matter of fact they have done such a good job of protecting us there has never been a case of a single symptom worldwide. We don’t even know the symptoms. Would our ears bleed? Maybe they would fall off. Would we be stricken with profanity induced deafness? Or worse yet would it result in God eventually turning his back on us?

Anyway, thanks for keeping the body of Christ safe from the perils of profanity.

Dolphins 'stressed' by sightseers

The RSPCA and environmentalists have warned sightseers trying to get close to a pod of dolphins off south Devon that they could be breaking the law.

About 35 craft surrounded five bottlenose dolphins in Hope Cove in the South Hams area on Friday.

Brixham Sea Watch said the mammals could have been "seriously stressed".

Dolphins are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Anyone recklessly disturbing them risks prosecution and a fine of up to £5,000.

'Warning shot'

Brixham Sea Watch was alerted to the dolphins' plight by a National Coastwatch lookout who was concerned for their welfare.

Sea Watch spokesman Lindy Hingley, who has monitored dolphins in the area for several years, said the creatures would have been "seriously stressed" by the presence of the boats.

RSPCA spokesman Jo Barr said harassing the animals by getting too close was something that was taken very seriously.

You think universal healthcare would be a waste, but you think pouring unlimited money into contractor's piggy banks in Iraq is worth it.

This raises another interesting question - do the things people believe the government did though it did not change the country? Total spending on welfare never went down, and has increased significantly in real per capita terms over the life of the Howard government. Education spending did dip in one year (as increased HECS replaced government spending) but then resumed its rise.

God forbid that this country have a government run health care system….we can’t run the systems that have been in place forever…..and health care….well look at the countries that have government run care………..people die………….it is much worse than what we have…today everyone can have health care………..get a job…………or the poor well they just go to emergency and get care……..been there lately……..it is a travesty……but better that what our government could provide.

Want an example…look at Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medical, etc.

It was part of a the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Market Access Program that takes taxpayer money and funnels it to wealthy corporations in the name of "promoting" American products

McDonald's isn't the only corporation that gets taxpayer money. In recent years, politicans have doled out $300,000 to Campbell's Soup, $1.4 billion to IBM, $4.9 million to Ernest and Julio Gallo Wineries, $671 million to General Electric, and $3 million to the California Raisin Brand

It's called corporate welfare

All told, there are more than 100 corporate welfare programs on the books. These programs cost taxpayers an amazing $87 billion per year

More than 80 Labour MPs have signed a petition calling for a one-off windfall tax to be imposed on energy firms who have recently recorded huge profits.
