We all know Jerry Seinfeld's into Superman. Now, the comedian may need to find his own inner Man of Steel if he's to succeed in changing the world's impression of Windows Vista.

Let me get you caught up: Seinfeld struck a deal this week to become the face of Microsoft's most expensive ad campaign ever. The goal, of course, is to undo the damage done by the bad rap Vista's gotten -- both from word-of-mouth and from that pesky Apple campaign portraying Windows as the outdated dork.

The attempted image overhaul comes as Microsoft executives privately acknowledge that Windows -- the company's most important brand -- has grown stale and has been battered by Apple's "Mac vs. PC" ads. Those ads, created by Omnicom Group Inc.'s TBWA/Chiat/Day, feature a nerdy PC guy getting upstaged by a hip Mac counterpart.

I make a fair amount of screen-capture images, for documentation, training notes and presentations. Until recently was using any one of Alt-PrtScn, screen clippings in OneNote, and the Vista Snipping Tool, depending on which computer I was using and whether I needed to capture a Window or screen area.

A few months ago I spent $49.95 on SnagIt from TechSmith and was very impressed with what it could do - not only capturing windows, areas and menus but also capable of capturing the entire contents of a scrollable Internet Explorer window.

This makes it really simple to capture a set of shots for training notes or manuals as the captures can easily be stored and categorised. It’s a real time saver if you are involved in software or web site testing and need to illustrate bugs or other problems while you work through the test plan. Highly recommended.

In an effort to promote its poxy Windows Vista operating system, Microsoft is paying Jerry Seinfeld $10 million for an endorsement, the Wall Street Journal reported this morning. Yes, because if there's one surefire way to convince everyone Vista is cool, cutting edge and not liable to get frazzled by life's minor complications, it's hiring a 1990s sitcom star and professional kvetcher! Who, um, very visibly owned a series of Macs on his show. This is Microsoft's worst promotional concept since, well, since its last Vista campaign, the Mojave Experiment, which decisively proved that people hate Vista but will use it if they are tricked into thinking it's something else, like a stable, functional tool. Here's how Madison Avenue is responding:

"They are not seen as cool," says Robert Passikoff, president of Brand Keys, a New York branding firm. "Apple is cool. Can anyone even recall a Microsoft ad? No."

E non potendo il cervello umano calcolare questo indice a prima vista, ci si affida alle proporzioni fra le varie parti del corpo, percepibili immediatamente dagli occhi.

In testing this product’s file recovery ability on a severely scratched and chipped disk, I’m happy to say that it recovered 934 files out of a total of 936, that Windows could not read, and it did this in less than 2 minutes.

The easiest way to update your Windows Vista-based PC with SP1 is by using the Windows Update control panel. Just set Windows Update to automatically download important updates and Windows Update will download SP1 when it's available for your PC. (It could take a month or more before SP1 shows up on your PC, so please be patient.) After SP1 is downloaded you'll see an alert like this:
