The Holy Father invited his audience to support the work of the synod on the Bible with their prayers, invoking in a special way "the maternal intercession of the Virgin Mary, the perfect Disciple of the Divine Word."

The current synod on the Bible will last for three weeks and includes 253 "synod fathers": 51 from Africa, 62 from the Americas, 41 from Asia, 90 from Europe and 9 from Oceania, who will study and discuss the “working document” alongside numerous experts and auditors, men and women. There will also be "fraternal delegates" from other Churches and ecclesial communities present.

Tags: scripture, bible, pope

<clipSource>http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=13982</clipSource>

OMG! well, i guess it is time for a little humor

clipped by: prin1

Clip Source: www.opednews.com

(Tampa, Fla) During a campaign appearance by Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin at a retirement village in Tampa, Florida, onlookers were stunned to see what they believed to be an image of the Blessed Mother Mary embedded in Palin’s wrapped puffed-up do.

“At first I thought it was just one of those Love Bugs y’get caught in the car grill, ” said 82-year-old Hubert Henry. “But then it started glowin’ like the baby Jesus I seen last year in the window at the Stuckey’s just of Route 1 in Hulmville. Using the "Scan Toaster," anyone with a PC and a USB cable can burn the likeness of the Blessed Virgin Mary (or any image or text that you wish) onto a slice of bread. The toaster utilizes a network of toasting "modules" -- hot wires that rotate within a 30 degree radius -- that burn the image or text you have selected onto the delicious slice of your choice. The peripheral is a finalist in a design competition run by the appliance manufacturer Electrolux, so as-of-yet there aren't any plans to manufacture it on a mass scale. We're guessing that Mr. Sun Bae Chang probably wants to keep the awesome power of the Scan Toaster for himself anyway.

Tags: toaster, usb, technology

<clipSource>http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/12/scan-toaster-puts-the-power-of-miracle-toast-into-the-hands-of/</clipSource>

3 Day Novena

clipped by: 747 angel

Clip Source: charlottetown.kijiji.ca

letter. Squeak has just returned from an unsuccessful attempt to
release Sofia from prison. The prison warden raped Squeak, and she
returns home battered and torn. However, Squeak is not defeated,
and she makes an important act of resistance when she decides to
reject the belittling nickname, Squeak, that Harpo has given her.
She insists on being called by her given name, Mary Agnes. By renaming
herself, Mary Agnes resists the patriarchal words and symbols that
Harpo has imposed upon her. Walker repeatedly stresses the importance
of language and storytelling as ways of controlling situations and
as the first steps toward liberation. Just as Shug renames Celie
a virgin, and just as Celie reverses Mr. ______'s words to say,
“I'm pore, I'm black, I may be ugly and can't cook. . . . But I'm
here,” Mary Agnes renames herself to show her refusal to let the
man in her life gain interpretive control over her.

<div style="margin-bottom: The Pontiff reminded his audience that both saints were martyrs in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, witnesses of the love which “defeats the darkness of egoism and hatred.” The Holy Father recalled words attributed St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe: “Hatred is not a creative force: only love is.” On August 14, 1941, the saint died in place of a fellow prisoner.

Tags: hope, prayer, mystics, church, saints

<clipSource>http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=13511</clipSource>

Interreligious dialogue

clipped by: hayesstw
clipper's remarks: When the goddess Bhagavati calls on the virgin Mary, is it interreligious dialogue at a higher level? I asked. A calendar image of the goddess, pinned up behind him, showed Bhagavati as a wizened hag wreathed in skulls and crowned with an umbrella of cobra hoods. In her hand she wielded a giant sickle.

"Sisters are often a little different from each other," he replied. "Mary is another form of the Devi. They have equal power." He paused: "At our annual festival the priests take the goddess around the village on top of an elephant to receive sacrifices from the people. She visits all the places, and one stop is the church. There she sees her sister."

Tags: inculturation, syncretism, interreligious dialogue

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/jun/28/india</clipSource>

The Mysteries of Guadalupe

clipped by: Efrain Alvarado
clipper's remarks: A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars..Revelation 12:1

Clip Source: www.youtube.com

The ayate fibers used by the Aztecs at that time deteriorated after 20 years.
