Israel’s Allies in America

For the past 100 years, there has been a move among the superpowers of the world to create, then support, and to some extent, even sustain a nation-state for the Jewish people in the region of the fertile crescent. In America, this movement was first led by Woodrow Wilson, yet over time, it’s banner has been passed to what is now the “Neo-conservative” movement.

Yet, it would be logical, fair and sound for the media to challenge and raise doubt about the Christian Right on the moral inconsistency and, really, hypocrisy, of preaching about a culture of life while advocating war in Iraq, and remaining shamefully quiet about the genocide in Darfur. Who are these people who would propound such ill teachings? Call them out – name their names – show what they are doing for what it is – misleading their own flock, and perpetrating unending violence in the Middle East.

If you're working at Dunder-Mifflin and you're lifting a highlighter or two every now and then, Michael may feign disapproval, but that's about it. On the other side of the coin is Victor Papagno, a sysadmin for the US Naval Research Laboratory, who was recently busted for jacking over 20,000 pieces of gear worth $1.6 million—from ink cartridges to hard drives to software—over the course of 10 years.

Apparently Papagno was stealing in such volume he had to stash lots of it in the homes of his neighbors, because his own house was quickly stuffed full. The game was up when, after a domestic violence arrest (surprise!), Mrs. Papagno called up Victor's employer, saying she wanted all of his work gear out of the house. "Um, what work gear?" was the response. The rest is history.

Our recommendation is to avoid attempting such a large-scale heist if your employer is the US Navy—apparently no secrets or strategically sensitive information was ever taken

With friends like these ...

Can a presidential candidate justify a long and friendly relationship with someone who, back in the 1970s, extolled violence and committed crimes in the name of a radical ideology -- and who has never shown remorse or admitted error? When the candidate in question is Barack Obama, John McCain says no. But when the candidate in question is John McCain, he's not so sure.

How close are McCain and Liddy? At least as close as Obama and Ayers appear to be. In 1998, Liddy's home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns -- including $1,000 this year.

British commander says war in Afghanistan cannot be won

LONDON, Oct. 5, 2008 (Reuters) — Britain's commander in Afghanistan has said the war against the Taliban cannot be won, the Sunday Times reported.

"We're not going to win this war. It's about reducing it to a manageable level of insurgency that's not a strategic threat and can be managed by the Afghan army," he said.

But Afghanistan's Defense Minister expressed his disappointment on Sunday at the commander's statements, maintaining the insurgency had to be defeated.

Wardak said success also depended on how British forces were approaching the problems they faced in Helmand but did not say whether their current strategy was the right one.

Violence in Afghanistan has increased to its worst level since 2001, when U.S.-led and Afghan forces overthrew the ruling Taliban following the September 11 attacks on the United States.

She wrote letters to the Will County State's Attorney's Office regarding her dangerous and life threatning situation. She contacted police. Her letters and pleas fell on deaf ears. After the death of Kathleen Savio, the family continued to demand answers. The door of the legal system was slammed in their face. It would take Stacy Peterson to vanish before relatives of Kathleen's such as [Kathleen's sister] who shared documents with Fox News and Greta that an outside medial exaimner was hired to determine the cause of death.

Across the County, Prosecutors and State's Attorney Offices have and are currently ignoring the Federal Violence Against Women Act.

Victims who seek services for assistance from the legal system in domestic violence, stalking, rape, court orders of protection are in Violation of a Federal Act that has been on the books since 1994, when Senator Biden worked with organizations across the country in this ground breaking legislation. If you are a victim or the loved one of a victim, I urge you to read the law. Victims are being refused basic services by a court system that if overburdened. A victim of a rape, sexual abuse, domestic violence stalking, murder, removal of parental rights, must be armed with the knowledge of their rights when seeking assistance in these cases. It is unfortunate but a victim must demand their basic rights under the law.

This is not an invitation to a cocktail party, these are people's lives.

On top of all this, US soldiers, in the face of numerous "improvised explosive devices" on the roads, have been venturing out a lot less (for fear of things like ... well, dying), so the violence against our noble lads is also down. Remember that insurgent attacks on American forces is how the Iraqi violence all began in the first place.

04/10/08 "ICH" - -- Although the "surge" has failed as policy, it appears to be succeeding as propaganda. It seems to be the only thing that supporters of the war have to point to, and so they point, and they point, and they point. Allow me to point out that while there has been a reduction in violence in Iraq -- now down to a level that virtually any other society in the world would find horrible and intolerable, including Iraqi society before the US invasion and occupation -- we must keep in mind that thanks to this lovely little war more than half the population of Iraq is either dead, crippled, traumatized, confined in overflowing American and Iraqi prisons, internally displaced, or in foreign exile.

The relationship between Islam and the West has been depicted as one of confrontation and indifference, but there is more to Islam and its relation with the West than violence and confrontation.

Historical and theological facts easily repudiate the claim that Islam is intolerant of Christianity and Judaism. Muhammad signed treaties of peace with the Christians and Jews. In the year 631, he received a delegation of 60 Christians from Najran, about 450 miles south of Medina in present-day Saudi Arabia, who were received in the prophet's mosque, and they were allowed to pray in the mosque.

The Islamic civilization has in the past proved capable of, for the times, astonishing feats of tolerance and acceptance. Under the Muslims, medieval Spain became a haven for diverse religions and sects. Following the Christian re-conquest, the Inquisition eliminated all dissent.

US kills 'senior Baghdad bomber'

A man said to be the planner of series of deadly al-Qaeda attacks in Iraq has been killed, the US military says.

Mahir al-Zubaydi, also known as Abu Assad or Abu Rami, was said to head the group behind bombings which killed at least 16 people in Baghdad this week.

US officials described him as the al-Qaeda military commander for the whole of Baghdad east of the Tigris river.

They say he played a key role in planning some of the worst atrocities in Iraq over the past few years.

Zubaydi also took part in the videotaped killing of four Russian diplomats in June 2006, officials say.

"His removal from the AQI [al-Qaeda Iraq] network will send shockwaves through Baghdad's terrorist bombing networks," a US spokesman told the Associated Press.

The spokesman said the organisation, which has seen a drop in support as Sunni Muslim Awakening Councils have collaborated with the US to curb violence, would now have even greater difficulty recruiting new members.

The latest violence took place yesterday morning at 4 AM. Groups of radical Hindu organizations set upon three Christian villages while the people were sleeping, attacking them with axes, clubs, swords, and knives.

Two days earlier, a Catholic in the area of Phiringia was taken to the hospital after suffering torture on the part of Hindus who wanted to force him to renounce his Christian faith.

Since August 24, when the campaign of violence began against the Christians, 60 Christians have been killed; 178 churches have been destroyed or damaged; 4,600 homes belonging to Christians have been burned; 13 schools or social centers have been destroyed; more than 50,000 people have been forced to flee; more than 18,000 have been wounded.

..while in Vietnam -- where the faithful and authorities have clashed for months over church property and the right to demonstrate -- the continuing pressure on Archbishop Ngo Quang Kiet of Hanoi has now found the prelate placed under de facto house arrest:

Imagine that you are a 16 year old girl in a busy McDonalds with your cousins. Imagine that you are all that is standing between them and danger, when you look over and see a grown man verbally abusing them. With no thought for yourself, you step up to the plate and inform this man in no uncertain terms that he needs to check himself. Now is not the time for you to think about the language that you are using. You are direct and to the point. When he threatens to hit you if you swear again, you square your shoulders and call his bluff. Then the unthinkable happens. In front of his children and the family that you were protecting, he viciously physically assaults you. As you lie there unconscious no one but the little girl that you rushed to protect comes to your aid.....a busy packed McDonalds has just witnessed a grown black man repeatedly punch a young black woman, and no one, not a single person intervenes.

clipper's remarks: With so many "high profile" crimes against women in Will County, IL, you would think those who live there would be lining the streets in protest. Fact. If we reduce the number of domestic violence cases, give women the protection in the legal system, there would be a vast reduction in the number of women missing and murdered.

There seems to be some movement in Will County, Illinois. Not the kind one would hope, but movement, none the less. More like a bad bowel movement in my opinion.

Will County has had its' share of high profile unsolved cases from the Lane Bryant Murders, Lisa Stebic, Kathleen Savio, Nicole DeYoung to Stacy Peterson.

The reality is that whether you live in Will County or Los Anglos County, domestic violence related crimes are low on the priority list of importance, across the country. For victims who are alive and trying to obtain assistance in the legal system, the system is unable and often unwilling to properly prosecute these types of crimes. They did not have the comprehensive training or time. States Attorney or Prosecutors in these offices do what they can but, they lack time and manpower.

Blast outside Basque region court

A bomb has exploded outside a court in Spain's north-eastern Basque region, after a warning from ETA, the armed separatist group, Spanish media report.

The small blast went off at 0115 (0015 BST) in the town of Tolosa and no injuries were reported.

The attacks come at a time of increased turbulence in Basque politics after Spanish courts banned two Basque parties over their links to Eta.

Spanish public television station TVE said a man claiming to represent ETA called the Basque traffic department to warn of an imminent blast about half an hour before the explosion.

The group resumed its campaign of violence in December 2006, following the failure of secret dialogue with Spain's Socialist government.

Big jump in Iraqi refugees in US

The US has accepted nearly 14,000 Iraqi refugees in the last 12 months and will take in another 17,000 in the next year, the State Department has said.

The figure is an eight-fold increase over the previous year, officials said.

The Bush administration has often been criticised for being slow to accept refugees from the violence in Iraq.

The UN estimates that more than four million Iraqis have fled their homes since the US-led invasion of 2003, with many going to Syria and Jordan.

"By the end of the US government's fiscal year on September 30, 13,823 Iraqi refugees had arrived for resettlement in the United States, surpassing the target of 12,000," the State Department said in a statement.
