clipper's remarks: The cap will be set at 250gb. If you go over that, you get a courtesy call from Comcast as a first warning. The second time that you go over, your account will be immediately suspended for an entire calendar year. People that watch movies or video's online are going to be hit hard because you can go over your daily limit in minutes.

And don't forget that companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and others are offering online (cloud) storage. Some applications such as Google's http://docs.google.com/ are online and would be completely inaccessible to small business's or home offices.

Plus there are X-box, Playstation, Nintendo and many other consumer boxes that require the internet to access online games, calenders, address books, and even clocks.

Comcast to cap monthly consumer broadband

Comcast notes that the median usage for most residential customers falls somewhere between 2GB and 3GB, a number that is regularly broken within a matter of hours and sometimes minutes by customers taking advantage of streaming HD video and online backup services. The company breaks down basic usage numbers similar to what's seen on the marketing materials on a consumer hard drive:

* Send 50 million e-mails (at 0.05KB/e-mail)
* Download 62,500 songs (at 4MB/song)
* Download 125 standard-definition movies (at 2GB/movie)
* Upload 25,000 high-resolution digital photos (at 10MB/photo)

So you think your level 70 paladin is pretty boss? Well just think about how much time you spend in World of Warcraft simply running around. These guys set up a simulation that requires one to actually run in order to keep their character going. Check it out:

The awesome guys in this video added a treadmill to their normal joystick and keyboard set-up. Never before have a bike tire and a mouse pad been used to propel a Night Elf.

Personally I was not the least bit surprised by the results. While most things in video games try to replicate real life (which makes them more immersive), the running and flying systems are really just there to move the game along. In the middle ages, people were typically born and then died within a fifty mile area. Clearly that won’t cut it for WoW, a game where you sometimes have to travel to other worlds.

Computer Virus Infects Space Station

Computer viruses make it to orbit

A computer virus is alive and well on the International Space Station (ISS).

Nasa has confirmed that laptops carried to the ISS in July were infected with a virus known as Gammima.AG.

The worm was first detected on Earth in August 2007 and lurks on infected machines waiting to steal login names for popular online games.

Nasa said it was not the first time computer viruses had travelled into space and it was investigating how the machines were infected.

Once it has scooped up passwords and login names the Gammima.AG worm virus tries to send them back to a central server. It targets a total of 10 games most of which are popular in the Far East such as Maple Story, HuangYi Online and Talesweaver.

"If you're trying to process the graphics in a photo-realistic animation, in real-time, there's a lot of computation involved," said Mr Koduri.

He said that AMD's new chip - the Radeon HD 4870 X2 - was able to process 2.4 teraflops of information per second, meaning it had a capability similar to a computer that - only 12 years ago - would have filled a room. AMD's chip fits inside a standard PC.

But he said that the line between what was real and what was rendered would not be blurred completely until 2020.

Extraordinarily lifelike characters are to begin appearing in films and computer games thanks to a new type of animation technology.

Emily - the woman in the above animation - was produced using a new modelling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated.

She is considered to be one of the first animations to have overleapt a long-standing barrier known as 'uncanny valley' - which refers to the perception that animation looks less realistic as it approaches human likeness.

"Ninety per cent of the work is convincing people that the eyes are real," Mike Starkenburg, chief operating officer of Image Metrics, said.

"The subtlety of the timing of eye movements is a big one. People also have a natural asymmetry - for instance, in the muscles in the side of their face.

Benefiting from the growth in broadband Internet access, NBCOlympics.com served up more than 1.2 billion pages and 72 million video streams through Saturday, more than doubling the combined traffic to its site during the 2004 Games in Athens and the 2006 Games in Turin. No current behavior—not web-surfing, not online porn -viewing—is getting attention like compulsive video gaming, thanks in part to a trio of highly publicized deaths in China and South Korea from marathon online gaming sessions. The issue kicked up so much dust that members of the American Psychiatric Association felt compelled to get together and vote on the matter in June of 2007:

“The APA defines mental disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Since the current edition, DSM-IV-TR, does not list “video game addiction,” the APA does not consider “video game addiction” to be a mental disorder at this time. If the science warrants it, this proposed disorder will be considered for inclusion in DSM-V, which is due to be published in 2012.”

A 2007 Harris poll reported that in the US 8.5% of youth gamers

“can be classified as pathological or clinically ‘addicted’ to playing video games” while another 23% say they have “felt addicted” to video games.

Stadium ready for opening weekend

Indianapolis - The new home of the Colts will get its first test this weekend when high school teams take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Peyback Classic is the first test of what's expected to be one of the nation's premier sporting and convention facilities. Saturday, four more games kickoff before the Colts make their debut at the stadium on Sunday.

"Everything works," said Bob Grand, chairman of the Capital Improvement Board, the city agency responsible for running the $720 million stadium. "Toilets, concession stands, lights, sound, video. Everything works, everything works."

Hundreds of stadium employees and construction workers spent the week preparing. Friday, businessman Forrest Lucas - who bought naming rights for the stadium - helped move another race car into the stadium. All three nights of games, a team of contractors will be in the stadium, ready to fix surprise problems.
