Essentially, homeowners in foreclosure would be allowed to switch from ownership to renting their property.

people qualified for the program will be those who cannot pay their mortgages

rental houses generally cost more than a home mortgage because the landlord has to pay a mortgage himself, plus pay for maintenance and utilities, obligatory or otherwise

Fannie Mae's premise here is that rent will be cheaper than the mortgage

tenant the rent will have to be lowered, likely by a large amount. Already the bank is losing money on its "investment," -- an investment they did not want, but were required to make.

Gore’s venture capital firm invested in Silver Spring Networks, a company that makes hardware and software to improve efficiency in the nation’s electricity grid.

When President Obama told a crowd at a solar power plant in Florida, ironically on an cloudy day where the sun was nowhere to be found, that $3.4 billion of the so-called stimulus package would be allocated for smart grid investment, it significantly reduced the risk of Gore’s investment: “Of the total, more than $560 million went to utilities with which Silver Spring has contracts. Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr. Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years.” Broder calls Silver Spring “a foot soldier in the global green energy revolution Mr. Gore hopes to lead.”

While closing Yucca Mountain made for good campaign politics in Nevada, it leaves the U.S. with nowhere to store a growing stockpile of radioactive waste. Roughly 70,000 tons of waste sits in temporary pools and dry storage canisters in 100 reactor sites around the U.S. -- each one requiring an army of guards and millions in electronic surveillance.

Last year Mr Gore's venture capital firm loaned a small California firm $75m to develop energy-saving technology.
