A separate report on ocean acidification published at the climate talks in the Danish capital underlined the dangers of rising carbon dioxide emissions to the world's seas and coral reefs and the people who depend on them for food, livelihoods and protection from floods and storms.

As the impacts of rising emissions were highlighted, campaigners demanded rich nations put their "money where their mouth is" and agree to massive funding to help poor countries tackle climate change.

The level of emissions cuts that developed countries are prepared to sign up to and the efforts developing countries will make to curb the greenhouse gases causing climate change is one of the key issues of the conference.

The issue of finance also remains a major sticking point, with Mr Soros warning the gap between rich and poor countries on providing money could "wreck" the conference.

I have seldom felt so alone. Confronted with crisis, most of the environmentalists I know have gone into denial. The emails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, they say, are a storm in a tea cup, no big deal, exaggerated out of all recognition. It is true that climate change deniers have made wild claims which the material can't possibly support (the end of global warming, the death of climate science). But it is also true that the emails are very damaging.

....The handling of this crisis suggests that nothing has been learnt by climate scientists in this country from 20 years of assaults on their discipline. They appear to have no idea what they're up against or how to confront it. Their opponents might be scumbags, but their media strategy is exemplary.

Next year could be the warmest year on record, the Met Office said today as officials at UN talks in Copenhagen continued negotiations in a bid to secure a new deal to tackle climate change.

The forecast from climate scientists said a combination of man-made global warming and a weather pattern - known as El Nino - heating the Pacific Ocean would make it very likely that 2010 would be warmer than 2009.

This year is expected to be the fifth warmest on record.

But the researchers sounded a note of caution, warning that a record year in 2010 is not a certainty, especially if the current El Nino declined or there was a large volcanic eruption.

But staff at Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital in Buckinghamshire have decided enough is enough. Snowball must slim down.

The hedgehog arrived at the Aylesbury centre in October weighing in at a hefty 1.5kg.

He had apparently been taking too much advantage of dog food left out at night by nature-lovers.

In a bid to reduce his weight to a healthier 1kg, he is undergoing daily swimming sessions in the centre's hydrotherapy unit. Rather glamorously, this is a jacuzzi donated by TV presenter Philippa Forrester.

Staff have also put him on a strict regime of kitten biscuits rather than the usual - but richer - diet of dog food.

Snowball has already enjoyed some success in his slimming efforts, having lost 38g so far.

Tiggywinkles founder Les Stocker said: "He was very, very fat. Hedgehogs just eat and eat and eat. If they have got food there, they will eat the lot.

ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis is a liar, perhaps even a pathological liar.

She lies about ACORN’s track record, its budget, its size, voter fraud, and so many other things.

Glenn Beck nailed her on yet another lie — and it’s a big one.

As Lewis praised the sham so-called audit by ACORN ally Scott Harshbarger the other day, she forgot a key statement that Harshbarger used in the report that supposedly cleared ACORN with respect to the underage illegal alien sex videos.

Harshbarger went to great pains to argue in a lawyerly way that ACORN Housing was totally and completely legally separate and independent from ACORN, that is, the secretive, non-tax-exempt lead entity that heads the ACORN network.

He also went to an effort to point out that as chief organizer (CEO) of ACORN Bertha Lewis has no authority over ACORN Housing, something those of us who study ACORN know is wholly untrue.
