But in several major newspapers, the joke itself was kept a secret. When McCain subsequently apologized to President Clinton, the Washington Post, in its personality section, noted the apology but said the joke "was too vicious to print."

But by censoring themselves, the Post, the Times and others helped McCain deflect flak and preserved his status as a Republican presidential contender.

Jesus said, "unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone." When He was captured and taken before Pilate he said, "For this purpose I was born, to bear witness to the truth..." He loved the truth more than Himself. Socrates was the same way. John, one of Jesus' disciples, went on to write about how he was in darkness until Jesus came. He was trained by Jesus and followed in his footsteps. As a result the teachings of Jesus remain to this day. The forces of evil and its darkness did not prevail. Jesus' strategy works. By God's grace I hope to follow.

"Buy truth, and do not sell it, get wisdom and instruction and understanding." ~ Solomon Prov 23:23

Clip Source: www.thetruthseeker.co.uk

My friend Tom Feeley is in Big trouble. He runs the web site informationclearinghouse.info which updates "news you won't find in the corporate media" every day. The site is strongly anti-war.

Tom has gotten his share of death threats over the years, but what happened this week is a lot more serious.

Two days ago, Tom's wife found three well dressed men in their kitchen. The man who did all the talking, told Tom's wife (I won't give her name) that Tom must "Stop what he is doing on the Internet, NOW!" As crazy as it sounds, he pulled back his lapel and showed her a gun of some kind which she could not identify.

Tom's wife is hysterical and has not returned to the house since the incident. She contacted the FBI but the FBI said their was nothing they could do. Tom and his wife separated recently after a 30 year marraige, so he is publishing from a different location.

The well-dressed man told Tom's wife that he knew where her son lived, what line of

<clipSource>http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=9111</clipSource>

Jon Stewart Speaks Truth to Media Power

clipped by: dmegivern

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Jon Stewart, Fox News Trade Barbs

Jon Stewart ripped the cable news networks Monday as a "brutish, slow-witted beast" and castigated Fox News as "an appendage of the Republican Party."

So far as many relatives I know would say, we would gladly repay any ’compensation’ money if we could just have our loved ones back.

“Financial ’compensation’ must remain in its inverted commas. Money cannot buy our families back.”

In a letter published in The Herald newspaper today, Dr Swire said the Libyan government’s admission of guilt for the Lockerbie bombing had allowed its economy to recover while giving the West access to the country’s oil industry.

“The Libyans have achieved what they want and Western commerce has got what it wanted too

Clip Source: www.timesonline.co.uk

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's son has accused relatives of the Lockerbie bombing
victims of "trading with the blood of their sons and daughters” in
their demands for compensation.

Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi, who is seen as the leading candidate to succeed his
father as Libyan leader, said that the Lockerbie families were "very
greedy” during negotiations over payouts for the deaths of loved ones.

Mr Gaddafi also told BBC2’s The Conspiracy Files that the Libyan government
had only taken responsibility for Britain’s worst terrorist attack in order
to get international sanctions lifted.

“You have to ask the families of the victims,” he said. “The negotiation with
them, it was very terrible and very materialistic and was very greedy. They
were asking for more money and more money and more money.”

He continued: “I think they were very greedy and I think they were trading
with the blood of their sons and daughters.”

the occasion? The Colonel, abashed, admitted that it was a party to announce
his engagement to his new love, Nancy Neele. Had he and Agatha been getting
along? No. In fact, he had recently told her that he was having an affair

KLEIN: What will the people who helped win his historic victory ask of Obama now? I hope that we, that you, will demand that he earn the incredible trust that he has been given, because the hard truth is this: Obama may have the energy and the anger and the networks of the antiwar vote, but he does not have a plan to get us out of Iraq. What he has is a plan to downsize the occupation of Iraq, not to end it. He may have the very real rage at the income inequality that has opened up in this country and around the world, but I am sad to say that he does not have a real plan to close that gap. And he may have the incredible, inspiring idealism of young environmentalists who are terrified about the future of this planet, but he does not have a green agenda that is a match to our climate crisis.

<clipSource>http://therealnews.com/t/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=74&jumival=2105</clipSource>

Bell Labs Kills Fundamental Physics Research

clipped by: hitchhiker08
clipper's remarks: Truth is most major corporations move away from their core competence and when they realize it, the damage is done...

Clip Source: blog.wired.com

Bell Labs Kills Fundamental Physics Research

Photo: William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain invented the transistor in 1947. (Alcatel-Lucent/Bell Labs)

After six Nobel Prizes, the invention of the transistor, laser and countless contributions to computer science and technology, it is the end of the road for Bell Labs' fundamental physics research lab.

Alcatel-Lucent, the parent company of Bell Labs, is pulling out of basic science, material physics and semiconductor research and will instead be focusing on more immediately marketable areas such as networking, high-speed electronics, wireless, nanotechnology and software.

A large part of his mystique lies in his insistence on his message, and on the complexity of that message; and in his old-fashioned, almost stern will to cut the flim-flam and, in a way so retro it's almost novel, to actually address the issues.

Tags: obama, personality, politics

<clipSource>http://www.newsweek.com/id/154899</clipSource>

Sermon Index . Several workers, who did not identify themselves, said Tuesday they were working and trying to keep the plant operational in the wake of the sudden loss of co-workers.

It’s an idea that maddens Samantha Stevens, 18, of Heidelberg, who was among those who pulled up to Avenue A across from the plant’s entrance throughout the day. She said she has been unable to find a job since she graduated from Heidelberg High School in the spring and blames, in part, the willingness of companies to hire illegal workers.

Gwendolyn Watkins, 40, of Stonewall said she drove 40 miles to Laurel to fill out an application with the electronics maker. She worked at Tower Automotive in Meridian as a production worker for eight months before job cuts in June left her unemployed.

<clipSource>http://michellemalkin.com/2008/08/28/newsflash-americans-applying-for-the-jobs-illegal-aliens-were-doing/</clipSource>

Quotes 20080828 10:02 AM

clipped by: ricardoviana

Clip Source: www.google.com

The world is governed more by appearances than realities, so that it is fully as necessary to seem to know something as to know it.
- Daniel Webster

There are only two ways of telling the complete truth--anonymously and posthumously.
- Thomas Sowell

<clipSource>http://www.google.com/</clipSource>

Georgia is the graveyard of America's unipolar world

clipped by: ratilfar
clipper's remarks: Cont...

There has been much talk among western politicians in recent days about Russia isolating itself from the international community. But unless that simply means North America and Europe, nothing could be further from the truth. While the US and British media have swung into full cold-war mode over the Georgia crisis, the rest of the world has seen it in a very different light. As Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore's former UN ambassador, observed in the Financial Times a few days ago, "most of the world is bemused by western moralising on Georgia". While the western view is that the world "should support the underdog, Georgia, against Russia ... most support Russia against the bullying west. The gap between the western narrative and the rest of the world could not be clearer."

And that has the neocons scare witless!

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

Russia's defiance in the Caucasus has brought down the curtain on Bush senior's new world order - not before time

If there were any doubt that the rules of the international game have changed for good, the events of the past few days should have dispelled it. On Monday, President Bush demanded that Russia's leaders reject their parliament's appeal to recognise the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Within 24 hours, Bush had his response: President Medvedev announced Russia's recognition of the two contested Georgian enclaves.

The Russian message was unmistakable: the outcome of the war triggered by Georgia's attack on South Ossetia on August 7 is non-negotiable - and nothing the titans of the US empire do or say is going to reverse it. After that, the British foreign secretary David Miliband's posturing yesterday in Kiev about building a "coalition against Russian aggression" merely looked foolish.

Tags: russia, us, empire, georgia, history, hegemony

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/aug/28/russia.usforeignpolicy</clipSource>
