The only people I ever heard talk about my Lady Poverty
were rich people, or people who imagined themselves rich.
Saint Francis himself was a rich and spoiled young man.
Being born among the working people
I know that poverty is a hard old hag,
and a monster, when you're pinched for actual necessities.
And whoever says she isn't, is a liar.
I don't want to be poor, it means I am pinched.
But neither do I want to be rich.
When I look at this pine-tree near the sea,
that grows out of rock, and plumes forth, plumes forth,
I see it has natural abundance.
With its roots it has a grand grip on its daily bread,
and its plumes look like green cups held up to the sun and air
and full of wine.
I want to be like that, to have a natural abundance
and plume forth, and be splendid.

The new sensor system seeks to avoid this problem by tapping into trees as a self-sustaining power supply. Each sensor is equipped with an off-the-shelf battery that can be slowly recharged using electricity generated by the tree. Matthew Pyke, 20, was found stabbed in his flat above the Orange Tree pub on North Sherwood Street on Friday.

A 21-year-old man from Limburg was arrested on Wednesday in Hunfelden by officers from West-Hessen Police.

Nottinghamshire Police said the man, who has not been named, was now in Frankfurt for the extradition hearing.

Mr Pyke had lived in Nottingham for two years

A force spokeswoman added: "We are questioning him with German police."

Officers in England and Germany said the arrested man knew the victim through an online games forum.

It's springtime in my hometown of Akron, Ohio. The robins, finches, bluejays and cardinals are busy building nests. The buds are opening so quickly on the dogwood tree outside my window that it is almost detectable to the naked eye. The redheaded woodpecker high atop the tree laughs his Woody laugh and I spot him quickly. The tiny fresh blades of grass gingerly poke their heads up through the dirt like the delicate babies that they are, preparing for their future of being wriggle material for children's toes. Spring has sprung!

We have had a long, snowy winter, but now it is time for me to get to work. I'm a web developer/mom by day, and amateur gardener by night. Gardening isn't easy for me, and I've spent quite a few years watching the masters before I gave it a try. New plans for world's tallest building unveiled in Dubai

Plans to construct what could become the world's tallest building, at more than a kilometre high, have been unveiled.

The Dubai developer Nakheel – the company that created man-made islands in the shapes of a palm tree and the world – said the structure would be the centre-piece of an inner-city harbour planned as the emirate's unofficial capital.

It would not comment on the exact height or cost of the Islamic design-inspired Nakheel Tower. The building will have "more than 200 floors" and be part of "a multi-billion pound development", the company said.

The tower and harbour project will take more than 10 years to complete. Apart from the landmark structure, there will be another 40 towers, ranging in height from 20 floors to 90 floors. The entire development will be home to more than 55,000 people and a workplace for more than 45,000.

Despite 21 Month Tree-Sit Berkeley Oaks Cut Down

As of Monday morning, all of the trees that the University plans to cut were down except for a redwood that still has four tree sitters in it. Five people were arrested as they peacefully pleaded with arborists not to destroy the trees.

Tree-sitters fought for the trees for 21 months. Some regarded the Memorial Oak Grove as a sacred place to Native American people. The California Native Plant Society CNPS stated that the Memorial Oak Grove was "an important gene bank for the Coast Live Oak."

Last week, the Bush administration proposed a three-page bill to bail out Wall Street to the tune of $700 billion. It died in the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week.

On Friday, though, the House approved a far bigger, broader, and beefier version of the bill--which has ballooned to a remarkable 442 pages. The vote was 263 to 171, with the bulk of the opposition coming from Republicans. Because the Senate already approved the measure, it immediately went to President Bush, who signed it into law.

The bill has become, in other words, something almost unrelated to the business of bailing out Wall Street. The Beltway term for this is a "Christmas tree bill," meaning everyone gets to hang their favorite spending projects on it--though by the time Congress gets it through, it more closely resembles a slop bucket.

Study traces AIDS virus origin to 100 years ago

The AIDS virus has been circulating among people for about 100 years, decades longer than scientists had thought, a new study suggests.

Genetic analysis pushes the estimated origin of HIV back to between 1884 and 1924, with a more focused estimate at 1908.

The new result is "not a monumental shift, but it means the virus was circulating under our radar even longer than we knew,"

Researchers note that the newly calculated dates fall during the rise of cities in Africa, and they suggest urban development may have promoted HIV's initial establishment and early spread.

The new work used genetic data from the two old HIV samples plus more than 100 modern samples to create a family tree going back to these samples' last common ancestor. Researchers got various answers under various approaches for when that ancestor virus appeared, but the 1884-to-1924 bracket is probably the most reliable, Worobey said.

Fauci described the advance as "a fine-tuning."
