If not, I recommend you do that now to appreciate the enormity of what's been done to us by the oil industry and its henchmen.

And those henchmen most definitely include PBS, the so-called Public Broadcasting Service, perhaps better called the Petroleum Broadcasting Service.

For a few million dollars a year, the oil industry has completely censored any reporting on the REALITY that the US does not have to - and never had to - be dependent on gasoline for transport.

Oceangoing ships burn the lowest of low-quality diesel oil, and the fuel used by locomotives isn't much better. Trucks burn a greater quantity of fuel per ton hauled, with correspondingly high emissions.

European research on people who commute more than 45 minutes each way suggests that they suffer more headaches, aches and pains, and increased susceptibility to flu viruses. Psychologists point out that people have two basic space requirements: personal space and territorial space. When these are infringed, stress levels rocket.

Phil Goodwin, Professor of Transport Policy at the University of the West of England, says: “The fight or flight hormones are triggered, but we can't do anything with them, particularly if we are stuck in trains or traffic jams. So they burn up our insides rather than releasing energy to do other physical things.” Distracting yourself with a book or an iPod is one strategy; imagining a safe haven around yourself is another.

Fuel Price is a Major Factor

The International Air Transport Association announced today that a revised financial forecast reports that the global airline industry could show losses of over 5 Billion US Dollars in 2008.

Industry analysts are reporting that although the price-per-barrel of oil has shown some stabilization over the past several months, the year-to-date average price of a barrel of oil is over 40$ higher than the average price for 2007.

Fuel prices continue to take an ever increasing larger piece of the airline industries operating expenses, up to 36% of total operating costs in 2008, up from just 12% in 2002.

More women use public transport than men

The UK's towns and cities are designed primarily for men, not women, says a study. So what's the difference?

If a town was designed solely for women, how would it look?

If you think it would have more nail bars, shoe shops and coffee shops selling skinny lattes, then think again.

Travel is one example. Studies show women make more complex journeys than men, dropping children off at school, going to work, getting the shopping before going home.

In contrast, men tend to just travel straight to work and back again.

Women tend to worry about their safety at night more and want better lighting in public spaces. Others find pavements difficult for buggies," she said. "They are problems which affect us every day."

But Dr Greed's key battleground is on public toilets. She says many women have said their closure is a big problem.

As we learned from 'Wall-E,' people with half a mind for themselves probably won't be kosher with living with 1.1 million or so other inhabitants within a pyramid. That being said, there's always the brainwash approach to getting 'em in there, and if hordes of people were ever filed into the conceptual Ziggurat, Mother Earth would surely appreciate it.

The 2.3-square kilometer building would be able to house over 1 million people and be "almost totally self-sufficient energy-wise." By tapping into the planet's renewable resources, designers assert that it could practically be carbon-neutral, and given that transport within the machine would be connected by an "integrated 360-degree network," fuel-burning cars would be pointless. As with most things in Dubai, this one seems larger than life, but if the Burj Al Arab is any indication, there's at least a minuscule chance this thing comes to fruition. Progress at the research level has been rapid, boosting prospects of harnessing photosynthesis not just for energy but also for manufacturing valuable compounds for the chemical and biotechnology industries. Such research is running on two tracks, one aimed at genetically engineering real plants and cyanobacteria to yield the products we want, and the other to mimic their processes in artificial photosynthetic systems built with human-made components. Both approaches hold great promise and will be pursued in parallel, as was discussed at a recent workshop focusing on the photosynthetic reaction centres of cyanobacteria, organised by the European Science Foundation (ESF).

Amid mounting agreement that future clean, "carbon-neutral", energy will rely on efficient conversion of the sun's light energy into fuels and electric power, attention is focusing on one of the most ancient groups of organism, the cyanobacteria.

Dramatic progress has been made over the last decade understanding the fundamental reaction of photosynthesis that evolved in cyanobacteria 3.7 billion years ago, which for the first time used water molecules as a source of electrons to transport energy derived from sunlight, while converting carbon dioxide into oxygen.

The light harvesting systems gave the bacteria their blue ("cyano") colour, and paved the way for plants to evolve by "kidnapping" bacteria to provide their photosynthetic engines, and for animals by liberating oxygen for them to breathe, by splitting water molecules.

Queensland Rail has gone to market for a new SAP-based freight management system for its commercial freight business, which it expects to double in volume by 2011.

Queensland Rail operates one of the nation's major transport businesses with annual revenue of around AU$2 billion, with the general freight business representing a quarter of this revenue at AU$250 million.

The project will be managed by the group's chief information officer, currently Dallas Stower. The group declined to respond to questions about what systems currently provided freight management services.

According to tender documents released this week, the system would need to deliver a "transport and logistics supply chain solution centred on the SAP [Transport Management] 6.0/7.0 module and integrated to other SAP modules and Queensland Rail legacy systems."

US Media Hiding Film from Americans

The producer in an interview claims that the Pentagon, State Department and US media have done their best to keep this film from Americans. Two of the Afghan witnesses interviewed in this film have since been murdered.

"Afghan Massacre" has outraged human rights groups and international human rights lawyers. They are calling for investigation into whether U.S. Special Forces are guilty of war crimes.

The film tells the story of thousands of prisoners who surrendered to the U.S. military's Afghan allies after the siege of Kunduz. According to eyewitnesses, some three thousand of the prisoners were forced into sealed containers and loaded onto trucks for transport to Sheberghan prison. Eyewitnesses say when the prisoners began shouting for air, U.S.-allied Afghan soldiers fired directly into the truck, killing many of them.

These witnesses say US Special Forces re-directed the containers carrying the living and dead into the desert and stood by as survivors of the ordeal were shot and buried. Now, up to three thousand bodies lie buried in a mass grave.
