What is Deluge?

Deluge is a full-featured BitTorrent client for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. It uses libtorrent in it's backend and PyGTK for it's user interface.

Deluge features a rich plugin collection; in fact, most of Deluge's functionality is available in the form of plugins.

What do I mean by “all kinds of data”? First, music. Ever seen a music video on YouTube that isn’t really a music video, but simply a song with some pictures slapped on it just to kill the boredom? There are plenty of services for sharing audio files out there, but kids are using YouTube because they’re used to it, because it’s simple, and because all their friends are using it. AP has an interesting article on this topic.

It doesn’t stop at music. You can find song lyrics (karaoke style) or even chords embedded in some videos; some users are sharing photos simply by stringing them into a video with music, etc.

But I see untapped potential here; users are obviously already using these features - although they’re not quite there - so why not provide them?

YouTube would have to be extra careful not to overly complicate the service and/or confuse their users.

I agree. I usualy immediatly drop torrents that are less than 200MB, to give others with slow upload speed a chance to improve their ratio.

The idea is to set your router to take any incoming connections directed at it, and forward them to your internal IP address.

Look for a "Listening port" or something similar in your torrent client's settings. You should not have it set from 6881-6889, because many ISPs throttle or block traffic on those ports. It is good to just choose a random port between 10000 and 65535.

What ports do I forward?

You will be presented with the option to forward your port on TCP or UDP, or both. You definitely do want to forward TCP, because that's what all torrent traffic travels over. UDP is optional, and does not affect torrents on private sites such as this one. UDP is used for your client's DHT service that allows you to find more peers on public torrents. Forward UDP as well if you use public torrents a lot.
