Filter Forge is a standalone application and plugin for Adobe Photoshop and compatible 8bf plugin hosts that allows users to apply programmable image processing filters and to define them with a visual node-based filter editor. A similar approach is practiced in such applications as Genetica and DarkTree; Filter Forge's salient characteristics include floating point processing, antialiasing, and support for producing bump maps and normal maps (in addition to textures). Filter usage relies on a simple, non-customizable UI with a list of presets and the input controls (sliders, lists, colour pickers...) that have been included in the filter dataflow.

Aspect ratios of profile, place, etc. pictures — all of these were measured at UI size = 1.000:
- Search > All for "Classifieds", "People", and "Places" - 4:3 (256x192 pixels)
- Search > Places and Classified tabs - ~7:5 (398x282 pixels)
- Search > Land tab - ~7:5 (358x252 pixels)
- Profile > 2nd Life tab - ~4:3 (178x133 pixels)
- Profile > Picks tab - ~16:9 (288x162 pixels)
- Profile > 1st Life tab - 1:1 (133x133 pixels)
- Profile > Classifieds tab - ~3:2 (206x137 pixels)
- About Land > Options tab - ~3:2 (178x117 pixels)
- Group Information > General tab's "Group Insignia" - 1:1 (126x126 pixels)

Some of these textures are shared (for example, Search > All place pages, Search > Places, and About Land > Options use the same image), so you will want to pick a happy medium ratio and use enough pixels to fill the larger panels without too much blur.

Paul Smith, the man with extraordinary talent was born in Philadelphia on September 21, 1921 with severe cerebral palsy.

Not only had Paul beaten the odds of a life with spastic cerebral palsy, a disability that impeded his speech & mobility but also taught himself to become a master artist as well as a terrific chess player even after being devoid of a formal education as a child.

'When typing, Paul used his left hand to steady his right one. Since he couldn't press two keys at the same time, he almost always locked the shift key down and made his pictures using the symbols at the top of the number keys. In other words, his pictures were based on these characters .... @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ .

As his mastery of the typewriter grew, he developed techniques to create shadings, colors, and textures that made his work resemble pencil or charcoal drawings.'

This great man passed away on June 25, 2007

Heightmap Terrain Rendering

We will begin with the simple example of rendering terrain using heightmaps. A heightmap is a grayscale image, containing the heights of the terrain. The shade of gray that a pixel has determines the height of the terrain at that point, white being the highest, and black being the lowest. When using floating point textures, the principle is the same. Each pixel contains a floating point value, 0.0f being the lowest height, and 1.0f being the highest. Building the terrain mesh from the heightmap texture could be easily done without using vertex textures, by reading the heights at loading time, when building the vertex buffer. As this operation is done only once (at loading) and not at every frame ( in the vertex shader), using vertex textures does not have any performance gains for this particular case. However, this is the simplest and most clear example that shows how Vertex Texture Fetch is used.

Who says ya can’t make something cool with translucent brown tape. Mixed media artist Mark Khaisman layers several pieces of tape on Plexiglas panels to create these mesmerizing rustic illuminations with textures much like a knife painting with broad wide strokes. Very cool, time lapse like retro, and mysterious… I’ll have to make some myself. (I love tape).

He designs his works on life size working drawings and assembles his sculptures from pre-cut layers of wood. This way he can reproduce the most perfect female forms.
This perfectionism he recognizes in the way women use fashion, high heels, fitness and plastic surgery to portray themselves. The female images in for example Playboy are precisely composed and manipulated in PhotoShop.
Allan Jones and Salvador Dali inspires Mario Philippona, high heels and legs are important parts of his furniture.
The works are handcrafted from regional timber and finished with natural oil and wax.

Mario uses the colors and textures of various types of hard woods to emphasize the forms.

A Lancashire grandfather has his buttocks insured for £1 million.

Graham Butterfield is the official bed bouncer for Silentnight in Barnoldswick, reports the Daily Mirror.

He said: "It may sound silly but my bottom is not like the normal bottom. I have increased sensitivity around the buttock area and can feel the difference in the materials used in beds. I am very proud to be the owner of a £1million backside.

"I want to make it clear that my bottom's super-powers are quite natural. I have no need of a special care regime."

Graham's duties at Silentnight in Barnoldswick, Lancs, involve bouncing on beds and giving feedback on softness, textures and fillings. His reports help decide which beds go on the market.

He said: "It makes it all worthwhile being the butt of people's jokes - they are only jealous of my job."

Steven Simpson, manager at Silentnight, said: "The policy is worth every penny."
