For years, health care professionals in transplantation and other medical fields have struggled to address adolescent nonadherence, with little success. Many of the interventions proposed to help this age group have been cumbersome at best and awkward and potentially demeaning at worst. One potential solution, for example, has a clinician first identifying teenage patients who have been nonadherent, then increasing the frequency of their clinic visits and lecturing them about the importance of taking medications.

It is not hard to see why a teenager might not respond.

researchers at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York published the results of a study showing that text messaging could significantly improve the rate of adherence among young liver transplant patients

investigators found that with text messaging, patients were more likely to take their medications

while 12 of the young people experienced rejection episodes in the previous year, only two did so during the study.

This book is the first English language translation of the famous Tibetan death text, The Great Liberation upon Hearing in the Intermediate State. Also known as the Bardo Thodol which means "liberation by hearing on the after death plane" (Bardo: after death plane, Thodol or Thotrol: liberation by hearing), it was originally written in the Tibetan language and is meant to be a guide for those who have died as they transition from their former life to a new destination.

The work has been traditionally attributed to Padma-Sambhava, an Indian mystic who was said to have introduced Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century.

this Tibetan text goes beyond a study of Tibetan culture and reaches into a psychology that has great relevance to the western world.
