Joe Biden Thursday night told Sarah Palin not to lecture him on patriotism, after weeks of attacks mocking him for his statement the wealthy should be patriotic and pay higher taxes because not enough has been asked of them.

"Sarah Palin had great fun saying Joe Biden thinks paying taxes is patriotic. Well, let me tell you what Joe Biden thinks,"

"That is not patriotic and it will stop, it will stop in an Obama-Biden administration! Enough! I've had it up to here! Don't lecture me on patriotism," shouted Biden, getting drowned out by the applause of his supporters. "I'm dead tired of being taken advantage of. I'm getting tired of it."

There has been a perceptible shift this week in Biden's approach to attacking the opposing ticket. Since Wednesday, he has been increasingly willing to take on Sarah Palin individually, instead of his earlier approach of lumping her in with McCain or ignoring her altogether.

Palin - Biden Wash

The Vice Presidential candidate debate was a wash in this writer’s opinion. Sen. Biden had a command of the details and historical facts, too many of them in the first half of the debate, but, if his objective was to reflect the Bush years into a McCain presidency, he was successful. Gov. Palin alleviated fears and anxieties over her appearing to be an air head with a solid rehearsed bag of tricks, like avoiding the questions, reverting to taxes, and attack, attack, attack. She stood toe to toe with Joe, and her base will praise her for it till the cows come home and long after.

Criticizing Sarah Palin is truly shooting fish in a barrel.

And there was one thing she said in the debate with Joe Biden that really sticks in my craw. It was when she turned to Biden and declared: “You recently said paying taxes is patriotic. In middle-class America, where I have been all my life, that is not considered patriotic.”

What an awful statement.

she declared that Americans who pay their fair share of taxes to support all those government-led endeavors should not be considered patriotic.

“I like paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.”

Whether or not I agree with John McCain, he is of presidential timber. But putting the country in the position where a total novice like Sarah Palin could be asked to steer us through possibly the most serious economic crisis of our lives is flat out reckless. It is the opposite of conservative.

McCAIN: Said that Obama has voted to raise taxes 94 times.

THE FACTS: As fact-checkers have constantly pointed out, that is an exaggeration. Per Factcheck.org:

23 votes were for measures that would have produced no tax increase at all; they were against proposed tax cuts.

7 were in favor of measures that would have lowered taxes for many, while raising them on a relative few, either corporations or affluent individuals.

11 votes the GOP is counting would have increased taxes on those making more than $1 million a year — in order to fund programs such as Head Start and school nutrition programs, or veterans’ health care.

The GOP sometimes counted two, three and even four votes on the same measure. We found their tally included a total of 17 votes on seven measures, effectively padding their total by 10.

The majority of the 94 votes

53 of them

were on budget measures, not tax bills

Four other votes were non-binding motions
