Naked swimmer evades police in Tokyo palace moat

TOKYO (Reuters) - A bald, naked man who said he was a British tourist went swimming in the moat of Japan's Imperial Palace on Tuesday, climbing the palace wall, throwing rocks and splashing water at police before being taken into custody.

Television footage showed the tall man getting out of the water at one point, chasing police with a rock and a plastic construction site pole.

He then went back to the murky water and swam across to the other side of the moat, climbing up the 8-meter (9-yard) stone wall of the palace.

He was caught by two policemen, after a chase media said lasted for an hour and a half.

"I've never heard of anyone doing such a thing," an unidentified man at the scene told TV Tokyo. "He must be a bit crazy."

Television showed passers-by gathering around the moat and watching the chase, giggling and taking photos on mobile phones.

Naked British pursuit in Japan

Bulimia Nervosa'’s Patient Population is startling:

Sex: The overwhelming majority (92-98%) of sufferers are female
Prevalence and mean onset: It affects 1-2% of the young female population, typically at the mean age of 18.
Geographic: According to Dr. Megan Moreno MSEd, bulimia “is virtually nonexistent in non-industrialized countries … it is found solely in societies in which a high cultural value is placed upon slim-ness.”

So why do some adolescents develop bulimia nervosa? Unlike a virus, experts suspect bulimia nervosa is the result of a variety of psychological, cultural, familial and biological causes intertwining in the sufferer. Additionally, some studies indicate that people who take part in extracurricular social activities that require their bodies to be on frequent display for others—like cheerleading, running, swimming—may be substantially more susceptible to developing these kinds of eating disorders.

Resturant has fish in urinal

A Chinese restaurant has been criticised - for keeping ornamental fish in a urinal.

The restaurant in Changchun city has around 20 fancy carp in the four-metre long trough in the gents' bathroom.
The Eastern Asian Economic and Trade Daily says experts have condemned the move as harmful to the fish and "disrespectful to China's fish culture".
A spokesman for the restaurant insisted the urinal contained a mixture of urine and water which was not harmful to the fish.
"The water is running, and each day we change the water at least twice and add oxygen into the water. It's not much different to a fish tank," he said.

The owner added that the fish were intended as an attraction for diners and were not used in dishes.
Guests seemed surprised to find fish swimming in the trough which has sign saying "Please urinate here" above it.

clipper's remarks: Nobody is exactly sure how these explosions proceed which is a tad worrying for the following reason: some clever clogs has pointed out that superfluid helium is a BEC and that the LHC is swimming in 700,000 litres of the stuff. Not only that but the entire thing is bathed in some of the most powerful magnetic fields on the planet.

If not for anything else, the LHC has become a modern doom spelling myth. The universe is about to punish us for prying on its privacy...

The fellas at CERN have gone to great lengths to reassure us all that they won’t destroy the planet (who says physicists are cold hearted?).

The worry was that the collision of particles at the LHC’s high energies could create a black hole that would swallow the planet. We appear to be safe on that score but it turns out there’s another way in which some people think the LHC could cause a major explosion.

The worry this time is about Bose Einstein Condensates, lumps of matter so cold that their constituents occupy the lowest possible quantum state.

Physicists have been fiddling with BECs since the early 1990s and have become quite good at manipulating them with magnetic fields.

But get this: in 2001, Elizabeth Donley and buddies at JILA in Boulder, Colorado, caused a BEC to explode by switching the forces like. These explosions have since become known as Bose supernovas.

White Bengal Tiger named Odin is six years old and 10 feet long from tail to nose. Odin lives at a Zoo in Vallejo, California, near San Francisco - and he likes to swim.

Lee Munro is his trainer; he says tigers are the most powerful swimmers out of all land-dwelling animals. The ferocious face he makes while diving is actually meant to close his nostrils to stop the water from going into his nose. For South-East Asia tigers it's just a good way to cool down.

It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115-ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.

The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile's southern coast, since it opened.

Chile's monster pool uses a computer-controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other.

Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build "an impressive artificial paradise" even in inhospitable areas.

"As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean."
