Although the novelty of him being a "black" president is entertaining, I don't really care about that either. (Honestly, it seems a little strange that we are so self-congratulatory over 'voting for a black man,' as if that should be really impressive somehow.)

Why do I support Barak Obama? Because of all the people running for President, I believe he has the best ideas on what direction our country needs to take. I would like to see much of his platform made into reality, and because of that, I will vote for him.

Do The Facts Support John McCain? (An Email To Read & Share)

1)-If you make less than $112,000 a year as an individual (not household income, individual income) you will pay a lot less in income taxes under Obama's proposed tax plan than under McCain's. You make up part of the 80% of Americans in this category.

2)-If you get your health insurance through your employer John McCain wants to treat your benefit as taxable income. That will push many Americans into a higher income bracket meaning you could pay thousands per year more in taxes.

3)-If you think corporations don't pay enough taxes you aren't alone. According to the non-partisan GAO about 2/3 of US Corporations paid no taxes at some point between 1998-2005. Despite this John McCain wants to cut the corporate tax rate by a whopping 10% in addition to increased first year write-offs which will ultimately cost us about 1.3 trillion dollars.

August 28, 2008—Experts say hundreds of thousands of Americans may have lost their homes due to a bill championed by Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., Barack Obama’s vice-presidential running mate.

At least two studies have concluded that the United States’ foreclosure crisis was exacerbated by a 2005 law that overhauled the nation’s bankruptcy law. That conclusion is echoed by other experts, although the banking and credit industry disputes it.

Biden who has enjoyed hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations from credit industry executives endorsed the measure early on and worked to gather Democratic support for it.

Biden’s early and vocal support was “essential” to the bill’s passage, said Travis Plunkett of the Washington D.C.-based advocacy group Consumer Federation, which opposed the measure. "The participants [of the SCO summit] underscore the need for respect of the historical and cultural traditions of each country and each people, for efforts aimed at the preservation, under international law, of the unity of a state and its territorial integrity," the alliance’s statement said.

"Placing the emphasis exclusively on the use of force has no prospects and hinders a comprehensive settlement of local conflicts," the statement said.

"Clearly there is unhappiness at what Russia did," US State Department spokesman Robert Wood said.

The U.S. Treasury cannot defend the dollar without the cooperation or at least acquiescence of the East Asian central banks, especially the People’s Bank of China with its mountain of foreign exchange.

But how much firepower has the U.S. Treasury got to sustain this dollar rally? With the cooperation of other monetary authorities around the world, it has a lot. But that still doesn’t make support for the dollar inexhaustible. The downward adjustment of the dollar to a sustainable parity must, at some point resume.

It may now suit almost everybody for the dollar to be given a break. That won’t always be the case though. And when the dollar’s fall resumes, the gold price will be reinvigorated. But if the dollar gains further support in the meantime then gold is vulnerable.

Australians back medical marijuana, heroin injecting rooms

MOST Australians would support clinical trials of cannabis for medical use, a new survey of more than 23,000 people has found.

Almost half the respondents said they would support regulated heroin-injecting rooms.

The nationwide survey found overwhelming support for legalising cannabis for medical reasons, backed by nearly 70 per cent, while approval of clinical trials for cannabis approached 75 per cent.

Most people also looked favourably on needle and syringe programs, supported by more than 65 per cent.

When it came to tobacco, there was firm support across the board for bans on smoking in workplaces, pubs and clubs.

More than 80 per cent of Australians wanted smoking banned in the workplace, with Canberrans most strongly in favour at close to 85 per cent.

And more than 75 per cent of respondents wanted smoking banned from pubs and clubs.

There has been much talk among western politicians in recent days about Russia isolating itself from the international community. But unless that simply means North America and Europe, nothing could be further from the truth. While the US and British media have swung into full cold-war mode over the Georgia crisis, the rest of the world has seen it in a very different light. As Kishore Mahbubani, Singapore's former UN ambassador, observed in the Financial Times a few days ago, "most of the world is bemused by western moralising on Georgia". While the western view is that the world "should support the underdog, Georgia, against Russia ... most support Russia against the bullying west. The gap between the western narrative and the rest of the world could not be clearer."

And that has the neocons scare witless!

Russia's defiance in the Caucasus has brought down the curtain on Bush senior's new world order - not before time

If there were any doubt that the rules of the international game have changed for good, the events of the past few days should have dispelled it. On Monday, President Bush demanded that Russia's leaders reject their parliament's appeal to recognise the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Within 24 hours, Bush had his response: President Medvedev announced Russia's recognition of the two contested Georgian enclaves.

The Russian message was unmistakable: the outcome of the war triggered by Georgia's attack on South Ossetia on August 7 is non-negotiable - and nothing the titans of the US empire do or say is going to reverse it. After that, the British foreign secretary David Miliband's posturing yesterday in Kiev about building a "coalition against Russian aggression" merely looked foolish.

DUSHANBE, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's president said on Thursday he expects China and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to support Russia's role in Georgia following the recent conflict.

Western powers have warned Russia that it faces "international isolation" over its continued security presence in Georgia, three weeks on from Tbilisi's attack on breakaway South Ossetia, and over its recognition of Georgia's rebel regions as independent.

Dmitry Medvedev, in Tajikistan for a two-day SCO summit, said: "We are confident that the position of SCO member states will produce an appropriate resonance through the international community, and I hope this will give a serious signal to those who are trying to justify the aggression that was committed."

The security bloc, seen as a counterweight to NATO's influence in Eurasia, comprises China, Russia, and four Central Asian states - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
