this affects everyone in California along with many other states. If you wanted to actually read the public laws that you are bound by, more than likely you’ll have to purchase them at a book store.

Why? Because the “public” laws of California are copyrighted, and lots of money is made by selling the law.

You can read laws online for free, if the department in charge has taken the time to put them there

But you can’t print them nor save them for viewing later

And if you wanted to try and make the laws available for the general populace to read and download online like our good friend Carl Malamud has been doing, then you might run into some problems.

If “ignorance of the law is no excuse,” then how does it make any sense that we have to pay money to fulfill our obligation to be informed.

California’s response

But, really. Is anyone surprised that an application called Pull My Finger, which has what Apple called "limited utility," wasn't approved? I'm not surprised. Much. TUAW writer Erica Sadun calls Pull My Finger "a simple, stupid joke app ... but it's the kind of simple, stupid joke app that a lot of people would download and use because people like simple, stupid joke apps."

I can’t stand Obama. I think Joe Biden is a poor excuse for a politician. Plagiarists don’t sit well with writers, even if I’m only writing until I can get through film school. I don’t think Obama can change anything. I don’t think he has the skill to fix jack shit. He can’t fix what Bush has done and he’s the most inexperienced presidential candidate ever second only to Bush.

But….I hate Sarah Palin. I don’t mean I dislike her. I HATE that stupid bitch. I cannot stand her. She is the biggest hypocrite on the planet. John McCain made a huge mistake in picking her as his running mate. He wanted the “Hillary” supporters and the Evangelicals all in one vote, but seriously, he’s about to alienate both groups thanks to choosing this woman.

I agree that USUALLY a politician’s kids should be off limits, but:

-When a person is trying to force “beliefs” on a nation that do not even work in her own home she is a fuckin’ hypocrite

A fresh upsurge of dissident republican violence in Northern Ireland was orchestrated by a new nucleus of ex-IRA members who have defected from the Provisionals. Veterans of the Provisional IRA's North Armagh brigade were behind the 24-hour wave of shootings, blast bomb attacks and riots that rocked the Craigavon area at the beginning of last week.

The violence in Craigavon means that in almost every corner of Northern Ireland there have been short outbursts of dissident terrorist activity over the last six months. In August, dissidents linked to a Continuity IRA unit in Co Fermanagh fired an improvised rocket at a mobile patrol.

Police patrols came under fire from a sniper, two blast bombs were thrown, police vehicles were attacked with petrol bombs and stones, and an SDLP assembly member was assaulted during 24 hours of disturbances in the Tullygally and Drumbeg areas of Armagh town.

Well, surely the populace is convinced McCain, that straight-talking express train that he is, made the decision for the right reasons?

The public agrees, the press agrees, everyone agrees: this was a Hail Mary pass by the McCain campaign to win the election. It was a move borne out of desperation, as they started to realize that Clinton supporters and Democratic women are, by and large, not sufficiently stupid to abandon their Democratic ideals because their favored candidate lost.

It has backfired. Sarah Palin excites the conservative base, and that's great for them. She doesn't do much for anybody else, and her selection forces the McCain campaign to abandon the one good talking point they had, for if Sarah Palin is experienced enough to be president, Obama is experienced enough to be God.

"John McCain chose Sarah Palin because he thought having a woman on the ticket would help him get elected."

We are still living in the DARK AGES as far as ignorance amongst the American populous. I don't know when it will change, if ever. When I got a job as a civil service employee, in the 60's, working for The Clerk of Quarter Sessions, I had a DOOFUS (click) boyfriend tell me, not to take the job because I would be outnumbered by blacks and maybe even wind up with a black boss.

At that time, I had a friend who was a civil service employee tell me, "it's a good opportunity, don't pass it up". So I took the job and found out... HOLY JUMPING JUPITER, BATMAN, dark skin or light skin, people are all the same. Some are ASSHOLES and some are quite rational.

Well here I am, almost two generations down the road and prejudice is quite ensconced "STILL" in the American psyche.

So if anyone out there is still convinced that Sarah Palin is a Fantastic, Gutsy, Bold, Mavericky choice that will Appeal to Women and Disaffected Clinton Voters...

...well, the polling would beg to differ.

It's evident by now that John McCain, doubtless spooked by the remarkable show of unity at the Democratic convention, has realized that he isn't going to get millions of disaffected Clinton supporters to flock to his candidacy in droves. It is equally clear that he was counting on those voters to win the election, as his campaign aides attest:

As one McCain aide put it: "We either get Hillary's voters and we win, or we don't. It's not a mystery." Said another: "This campaign is all about the middle."

Comparing herself to Hillary Clinton? How dare she. Not that anyone should be shocked; it's the only winning move for the McCain campaign.

HILLSBORO -- Washington County sheriff's deputies were surprised Saturday evening, when a woman brought in a box of 32 high-explosive bombs used to scare seals from fishing grounds and piers.

No one was injured in the incident.

Leanne Wade, 56, of Hillsboro told deputies she confiscated the seal bombs from her friend's 21-year-old son in Seattle earlier Saturday, then drove them to Hillsboro to turn them in for destruction. She placed the seal bombs on a counter in the after-hours lobby of the sheriff's records department around 6:50 p.m.

Deputies soon called in Portland's bomb squad to safely dispose of the explosives.

They then interviewed Wade and determined that no harm was intended. No criminal charges are expected, said Sgt. Bob Ray, sheriff's spokesman.

They are classified as high explosives under federal law. To legally detonate one, a permit is required from the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
