It's all about respect he counts as his due from the Democratic wing of the Clinton Party. It's not like Hillary didn't win everything fair and square.

The Democrats here are more than a little concerned about their man's slide in the polls; Gallup on Monday said the race is tied at 45-all.

The news may get worse. There's the story now afloat that an Obama half brother is living in grim poverty in Kenya, scratching out a bare living on a dollar a month while the senator lives in luxury on $5 million a year. Far worse, a summerlong controversy continues about when and where the senator was actually born, and whether the circumstances of his birth could cloud his eligibility to serve.

The Obama campaign has been reluctant to produce a birth certificate. [...] The Clintons are surely trying to help sort this out.

Clip Source: www.washtimes.com

The Democratic National Convention, called to nominate a president, is not a happy place for the ladies of the League of Women Voters. Sportsmanship is nice, but a strong arm is more effective.

The Obama campaign is angry at the Clintons, both he and she, who Obama strategists say can't come to terms with the fact that he's tired and stale and she's not as bright in the tooth as she was in springtime.

The Clintons insist they're doing everything they can to soothe the hurt and disappointment of their delegates, who comprise a large enough complement here to make serious trouble if someone can find the kindling and a match to light the fuel. The Obama campaign scoffs at the Clinton pretenders as "bitter enders" who think Barack Obama must reconcile to them, not the other way around.

Hillary speaks Tuesday night

Bubba doesn't speak until Wednesday night, and he's miffed that they want him to talk to the theme of "Securing America's Future."

Tags: dnc, obama, hillary and bill clinton, delegates, unity, obama-mccain gallup poll 45-all

<clipSource>http://www.washtimes.com/news/2008/aug/26/brass-knuckles-and-party-unity/</clipSource>

Phelps Knows Sportsmanship

clipped by: ianhorn24
clipper's remarks: Phelps really needs to work on his manners!

Clip Source: www.new.facebook.com

Tags: phelps, sports, olympics

<clipSource>http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27703797&ref=nf</clipSource>

Angry Swede throws down medal, quits

clipped by: paleblue
clipper's remarks: Ha haaaa sweet sportsmanship.

“I don’t care about this medal. It was a hastily organised affair, after Italy pulled out following the eruption of Vesuvius. Oh, and Britain won 56 gold medals.

When we consider the sleek and slick celebration of sport that the Olympic Games have become, it is about far more than physical endeavour and great drama.

We also - alas - tend to think of political manoeuvring; financial burdens and corporate sponsorship; doping scandals and even the odd display of bad sportsmanship.

But wind back 100 years and all these were very much a feature of the 1908 Olympics.

The first recognisably modern Games, the six month long Fourth Olympiad, based around White City in west London, seems to prove that old axiom "the more things change, the more they stay the same".

Bicycle polo is no longer an Olympic event and the tug-of-war seems unlikely to make a return to such an exalted stage. But many of the events enjoyed by our Edwardian forebears seem mighty familiar.

Her first home run cleared the center-field fence.

But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury.

She crawled back to first but could do no more. MONMOUTH, Ore. (AP) - A senior with a .153 career batting average hits her first home run, a three-run blast, to help Western Oregon move closer to a spot in the NCAA's Division II softball playoffs.

That was improbable.

To 70-year-old Central Washington coach Gary Frederick, what happened next was "unbelievable."

Sara Tucholsky, the 5-foot-2-inch right fielder, sprinted to first as the ball cleared the center field fence Saturday in Ellensburg, Wash. Given that she had never hit a ball out of the park, even in practice, she was excited. So excited she missed first base.

A couple yards past the bag, she stopped to go back and touch it. And yes, my congratulatory post would have been on the blog immediately after Sunday's game instead of four days later if the Little Leaguers from Lubbock had been the champs. But they still deserve applause for taking third in the tournament.

I love football -- Texas, you know. Babies wrapped in Dallas Cowboys blankets as soon as they are born and all that. -- but I really, really like baseball. When I wrote silly poems, that was play. That was just flat-out fun. My parents didn't get involved and nobody yelled at the ump." He wishes that "a kid who's lousy at sports but good at music or theatre or writing or videogames should get as much encouragement and honor as any athlete. But he won't."

The only time I had fun with sports was when it was just for fun. If it got competitive I left because I could think of a lot better things to get upset about. I poured myself into drama, debate, reading, videogames. Now I'm 26, married for four years, a filmmaker, and a CEO of my own company.... and I still suck at sports.

Clip Source: www.hatrack.com

But what does somebody learn from sports that can't be learned from other
activities?

You want teamwork? Put on a play. Join the band or orchestra or chorus.

You want experience working hard at something that many people can't do well
till you're good enough to really master it? I suggest the clarinet or violin. Or
poetry.

You want to learn good sportsmanship? Play Monopoly. Strategy? Chess.
Eye-hand coordination? Videogames.

And the supreme irony? Hearing celebrities who have been divorced several
times explaining how sports taught them commitment, to stick with something
even when it's hard. Um, yeah, I guess that lesson really stuck.

My point is: People who loved sports like to explain why everybody should have
sports in their life. But I tried sports and what I found is what you find
everywhere:

If you have some talent or a real love for it, you can get better by working hard.
Maybe you can even make a livelihood at it.

When we grew up, you tried to do things the right way, and if you got in trouble, you didn't go on the radio or television and talk about it. Nowadays, it seems that a person doing things the wrong way get more media attention than those that do right. Consider all the Hollywood celebrities who have been in the news lately. Also, remember how Hank Aaron made it into the baseball Hall of Fame - with character, integrity, and sportsmanship. Compare that with Barry Bonds who is about to surpass Aaron's record.

What are we teaching the younger generations? Is it like Cal said. Frank Sinatra sang a song that said, "I'll do it my way". Is that how we are teaching our children, or do we want them to do it by the rules?

Clip Source: jewishworldreview.com

That is a foreign concept in our day: the "right" way. Why? When I was growing up — and until recent years — most athletes played by the rules and did things the right way. Their only "enhancement" was hard work, which refined natural talent.
