Back in 2005 USA Today published a list called, “The 10 Hardest Things To Do In Sports”, which has virtually gone unchallenged over the last few years.

In case you are wondering pole vaulting ranked number three on the list.

I don’t know about you, but I think to become great in the area of pole vaulting is really a difficult thing. That said, in my opinion any pole vaulting athlete that can even clear the bar deserves KUDOS! So for you beginning, intermediate, or even advanced pole vaulters, a big round of applause goes your way! You have just participated in one of the hardest things to do in sports!

For those pole vaulters who are still working on just clearing the bar…keep on trying, it isn’t as easy as it looks!

Measure Your Home Energy Use With The Spark Lamp

The Spark Lamp concept by Beverly Ng is an LED lamp that you can flip over during the day to recharge itself using solar power. It’s designed to educate the owner about their power consumption. The lamp sports integrated WiFi which wirelessly keeps track of you home’s power usage. When you turn the lamp on, it will change colors and flash to tell you what your home’s power consumption is.

It’s no accident that it looks like a houseplant as a metaphor for how plants are powered by sunlight through photosynthesis. The Spark Lamp was created in reaction to the Swedish’s government response to the energy crisis. In Sweden, future homes will have smart meters that will give real-time feedback to homeowners on the internet. But data on a website is not all that engaging so the Spark lamp was developed to enhance the experience.

To an outsider, it would seem hard to do, but an oil-rich town with zero debt on the day she was inaugurated mayor was left saddled with $22 million of debt by the time she moved away to become governor – especially since nothing was spent on things such as improving the city’s infrastructure or building a much-needed sewage treatment plant. So what did Mayor Palin spend the taxpayer’s money on, if not fixing streets and scrubbing sewage?

For starters, she remodelled her office. Several times over, as a matter of fact.

Then Palin spent $1 million on an unnecessary, new park that no one other than the contractors and Palin seemed to want. Next, Sarah doled out more than $15 million of taxpayer money for a sports complex that she shoved through even though the city did not own clear title to the land; now, seven years later, the matter is still in litigation and lawyer fees are said to be close to at least half of the original estimated price of the facility.

Those interested in outdoor recreational pursuits will find Valdez, Alaska a destination for all seasons. This community is located on the northern shore of Port Valdez in northeastern Prince William Sound and backs against the rugged coastal Chugash Mountains. Port Valdez is the closest saltwater accessible by residents of interior Alaska living along the Richardson Highway running from Copper Center towards Fairbanks.

Tolling for Silver salmon in Port Valdez during late August is one of the best fishing experiences found in Alaska. This is a terminal fishery supported by the Valdez Fisheries Development Association (VFDA), a private non-profit fish hatchery based in the community. Once this annual run of Silvers is in Port, the fishing is fast, furious and exciting. Silver salmon are remarkable fighters, making aerobatic twists in the air and threatening to break free at any moment. The Silvers are plentiful in most years and a typical bag limit is six fish per day.

Former Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff has been sentenced to four years in prison for corruption.

Abramoff's assistance led to other corruption convictions

Abramoff had pleaded guilty in a Washington court to charges of trading expensive gifts, meals and sports trips in exchange for political favours

The case caused a scandal in Washington and sparked off a wide-ranging public corruption probe

The court had heard how Abramoff made tens of millions of dollars by steering clients to consultants who charged excessive fees and then split the profits with him

In 3,000 hours of interviews with the FBI, he gave information leading to the conviction of a string of lawmakers and high-profile political figures, including one member of Congress

He said that much of the activity of Washington "lives in the loopholes" but that he had "blundered farther than even those excesses would allow
