James Arthur Ray, the new age guru whose Sedona, Ariz. sweat-lodge ceremony may have caused three deaths, sent one victim's family a check for $5,000, about half the participation fee for the event, the family told CNN's Larry King on Monday night.

According to the mother of victim Kirby Brown, the check came in a sympathy card on Oct. 22, two weeks after the Oct. 8 tragedy, along with a note that read, "Please accept this financial assistance. And on the check he (Ray) wrote, 'In honor of Kirby Brown.'"

"It's laughable," Virginia Brown said on Larry King Live. "My daughter paid twice that to go to his event."

Ray has become a self-help superstar by packaging his charismatic personality and the promise of financial wealth through spiritual awakening. He uses free seminars to recruit people to expensive seminars like the Sedona retreat that led to the sweat-lodge tragedy.

The author managed to explain spirituality and meditation in an easy to understand manner while at the same time giving guided meditation instructions, and a workbook to help you realize just how many changes occur in yourself and your perception of life as you meditate throughout those 7 weeks (remember even 5 minutes of meditation a day can and will make a positive change in your life.)

Spiritual Cinema Circle

This past Friday night, I sat down with my husband at our usual restaurant for “date night” and later came home to watch a movie. We usually end up renting movies at Blockbuster. And of course, it’s trial and error. Some movies are really good and some are just really bad.

My Review of Spiritual Cinema Circle

In my opinion, watching these types of movies with your spouse, children, other family members, and friends provides a very good conversation starter for topics that we don’t usually tend to talk about. We may not talk about these things because we are just too shy to bring up, or are apprehensive to bring them up worrying that we might perhaps offend the other person or make them feel uncomfortable… or we just don’t even think about these things during our daily grinds.

It’s important to have self-confidence. It’s even more important to have spiritual self-confidence. Spiritual confidence is that unique and palpable sense of absolute conviction that cannot be affected by external or internal fluctuations. It’s being absolutely sure. It’s knowing, before you know, that you know. It’s the highest gift and blessing that comes only from the deepest insight into the true nature of things. It can also be the most precious jewel that is freely transmitted from the awakened heart and mind of a true spiritual master to any and all who would receive it. Absolute conviction destroys existential doubt and frees the human soul.

The Eastern traditions say that doubt is one of the biggest obstacles to the profound discovery of enlightened awareness

Spiritual confidence is the heaviest anchor in the midst of the unending storm that is life and death

Have confidence in that and change the world.
