They suggest this could potentially herald the onset of a new ice age. Following the end of the sun’s most active period in over 11,000 years, the last 10 years have displayed a clear cooling trend as temperatures post-1998 leveled out and are now decreasing.

Earlier this year, John Coleman, the founder of The Weather Channel, stated that manmade global warming is “the greatest scam in history,” adding, “I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. 3, 2008: Mercury's magnetic field is "alive."
Volcanic vents ring the planet's giant Caloris Basin. And
Mercury has shrunk in on itself more than previously suspected.

"The basin was formed from an impact by an asteroid
or comet during a period of heavy bombardment in the first
billion years of Solar System history. As with the lunar maria,
a period of volcanic activity followed, producing lava flows
that filled the basin interior. This volcanism is responsible
for the comparatively light, red material of the interior

You can only lie to us for so long before the truth exposes your movement for what it is; a dogma based on faulty science and ulterior motives.

We've heard prediction after prediction after prediction about how the polar ice caps were absolutely inevitably going to melt away into nothingness this summer. Of course, they haven't. Not even close. we do here on Earth. For millions of years, solar activity has been
controlling temperatures on Earth and even now, the sun controls how
high the mercury goes. CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one
way or another. Soon it will cool down anyhow, once again, regardless

so. What makes a whole lot of economic and political sense is to blame
global warming on humans and create laws that keep the status quo and

Scientists are in general agreement that organic molecules, the precursors to life on Earth, are a consequence of lightning in the atmosphere

using data from the Huygens probe

scientists have "unequivocally" proven that Titan has electrical storms

causing much excitement as this could mean that organic compounds may be found in abundance

The fruits from the Cassini-Huygens mission are coming thick and fast. MDI measures plasma velocity and magnetic field strength at the top of the convection zone, so it is an invaluable sunspot detector. Sunspots are a good indicator about how active the Sun is, as when the magnetic field becomes stressed and twisted, it is forced from the convection zone, through the photosphere, chromosphere and high into the corona. These protrusions then fill with plasma and glow as coronal loops.

Tags: solar

<clipSource>http://www.astroengine.com/?p=544</clipSource>

New eruption on the Sun!

clipped by: mariana3
clipper's remarks: Note: To view the movie, you probably need to go directly to the site (spaceweather.com)

Clip Source: www.spaceweather.com

OVER THE HORIZON:
NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft has beamed back
a movie of a spectacular eruption on the sun's eastern limb. Click

of gas five times the size of Earth being hurled away from the sun.
Earth was not in the "line of fire" so no geomagnetic
storms or auroras resulted from the blast.

Astronomers on Earth witnessed only the upper regions of the explosion.
From our point of view, the action took place over the sun's horizon.
STEREO-B, however, has a different point of view. STEREO-B shares
Earth's orbit around the sun (approximately), but lags
behind Earth by about 30 degrees. This allows the spacecraft
to see "around the bend," revealing solar activity hidden
              from terrestrial eyes.

Seeing the hidden side of the sun is just one of many benefits

The International Space Station Transits the Sun

Explanation:
That's no sunspot.

It's the
International Space Station (ISS)
caught by chance passing in front of the Sun.

Sunspots, individually, have a dark central
umbra, a lighter surrounding penumbra,
and no solar panels.

By contrast, the ISS is a complex and multi-spired mechanism,
one of the largest and most sophisticated machines ever created by
humanity.

Also, sunspots occur on the
Sun, whereas the ISS orbits the
Earth.

Transiting the Sun is not very unusual for the
ISS, which orbits the Earth about every 90 minutes,
but getting one's timing and equipment just right for a
great image is rare.

Strangely, besides that fake spot, the Sun, last week,
lacked any real sunspots.

Sunspots have been
rare
on the Sun since the dawn of the current
Solar Minimum,
a period of low solar activity.

Tags: astronomy

<clipSource>http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap080730.html</clipSource>

Astrophysicist Dr. Nir Shaviv

clipped by: willhelm

Clip Source: epw.senate.gov

recanted his belief that man-made emissions were driving climate change. "Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming. But after carefully digging into the evidence, I realized that things are far more complicated than the story sold to us by many climate scientists or the stories regurgitated by the media. In fact, there is much more than meets the eye," Shaviv said in a February 2, 2007 Canadian National Post article. According to Shaviv, the CO2 temperature link is only "incriminating circumstantial evidence." "Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming" and "it is unlikely that [the solar climate link] does not exist," Shaviv noted, pointing to the impact cosmic- rays have on the atmosphere. According to the National Post, Shaviv believes that even a doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere by 2100 "will not dramatically increase the global temperature."

Tags: global warming, climate change

<clipSource>http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.SenateReport</clipSource>

Theory on Relationship of Sunspots and Jovian Planets

clipped by: willhelm

Clip Source: www.americanthinker.com

But the most fascinating and encouraging news for the deniers is from Australian astrophysicists I.R.G. (Nothing)

clipped by: tabsey
clipper's remarks: There was a clip last night which expressed justifiable concern. This paints a clearer picture. No need to worry yet.

Clip Source: science.nasa.gov

So
says NASA solar physicist David Hathaway. "There have
been some reports lately that Solar Minimum is lasting longer
than it should. That's not true. The ongoing lull in sunspot
number is well within historic norms for the solar cycle."

This
report, that there's nothing to report, is newsworthy because
of a growing buzz in lay and academic circles that something
is wrong with the sun. Sun Goes Longer Than Normal Without
Producing Sunspots declared one recent press release.
A careful look at the data, however, suggests otherwise.

But
first, a status report: "The sun is now near the low
point of its 11-year activity cycle," says Hathaway.
"We call this 'Solar Minimum.' It is the period of quiet
that separates one Solar Max from another."

Above:
