It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!

These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve ’tissue specimens.’ Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body! Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the ‘diet products’ and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period.

Tags: diet soda is bad for you, diet soda is not a diet product

<clipSource>http://blog.fitnessguide101.com/is-diet-soda-bad-for-you/</clipSource>

How to Soften New Sheets - From SundryBuzz

clipped by: socialmarks1

Clip Source: www.sundrybuzz.com

How to soften new sheets

I bought some new sheets recently, ran them through a regular wash cycle
before putting them on our bed, and immediately thought, wait, did I
accidentally buy a negative thread count? They were so stiff and almost
scratchy. After doing some hunting online, I did the following:

• Washed them on the hottest setting
• Used no detergent (the idea is that
new sheets have chemicals on them and detergent just makes it worse)
• Added
lots of fabric softener
• Dumped in a cup or so of baking soda during the
wash cycle
• Took them out of the dryer as soon as they were dry, rather than
leaving them to sit in there for a while

They came out about a thousand times softer, I couldn’t believe it. Plus, the
baking soda made them smell really fresh and clean and nice. I’ve also read that
you can add a cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle to help break down
residues, but I haven’t tried this yet.

Tags: household advice

<clipSource>http://www.sundrybuzz.com/2008/08/14/how-to-soften-new-sheets/</clipSource>

Inventions - the 19th Century

clipped by: Fast T friend
clipper's remarks: Many of these seem so much part of life, others seem so primitive in comparison to our time, and yet they were invented not so long ago. McDonald’s has the Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait, Wendy’s offers Garden Sensations salads and at Burger King you can even get a veggie burger.

Yogurt, salad, veggie burger … these are all healthy foods.

However, new research suggests that healthy fast food meals have the same effect on your cardiovascular system as a burger, fries and a soda.

The endothelium is a thin layer of cells that line the interior surface of blood vessels. Endothelial cells line the entire circulatory system, from small capillaries to veins and arteries to the heart. These cells are responsible for regulating blood flow and blood pressure through vasoconstriction and vasodilation.

High-fat meals have a negative effect on endothelial function, causing endothelial dysfunction, meaning there is less elasticity of blood vessels and reduced blood flow.

<clipSource>http://www.highlighthealth.com/food-and-nutrition/healthy-fast-food-not-so-healthy/</clipSource>

Pseudo-Healthy Food: Diet Soda

clipped by: sapphira
clipper's remarks: Part 1 of 10

Clip Source: health.msn.com

5 Pseudo-Healthy Foods—and 5 That Are Healthier Than You Think

5 Pseudo-Healthy Foods—and 5 That Are Healthier Than You Think

Pseudo-Healthy Food: Diet Soda

Soda can// © George Doyle /Getty Images

It may seem like the perfect way to save calories and slash your sugar intake, but studies show that diet drinkers actually weigh more than regular soda drinkers. For diet soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese tied to a 2-can-a-day habit is 57 percent compared to 46 percent for regular soda drinkers. Diet soda may throw off your natural appetite regulation, causing you to eat more sweets. It may also trick you into thinking it's OK to indulge in high calorie foods because you "saved" by choosing diet soda.

Tags: food, diet, health, healthy, pseudo

<clipSource>http://health.msn.com/nutrition/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=100212803&imageindex=1</clipSource>

Chocolate Banana Cupcakes

clipped by: nattykhoo
clipper's remarks:
Calories
148
Calories from Fat
48
% Daily Value*
Total Fat
5.4g
8%
Saturated Fat
3.2g
16%
Cholesterol
13mg
4%
Sodium
141mg
6%
Total Carbohydrates
24.4g
8%
Dietary Fiber
1.2g
5%
Sugars
14.2g
Protein
1.9g

Great, moist, fluffy cupcakes! 3/4 cup sugar
5 Tbsp non-hydrogenized vegan butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1 banana, mushed well
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup soy milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 350.

Combine first three ingredients in a large bowl, mix well. Add banana, stirring well to combine. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cup and level with a knife. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt, stirring well with a whisk. Add flour mixture to sugar mixture alternately with 1/2 cup soymilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture; mix after each addition.

Spoon the batter into 12 muffin cups lined with paper liners. Bake for 20 minutes or until cupcakes spring back easily when touched lightly in the center. Allow to cool, and frost if desired. Peanut butter frosting highly recommended, or just spread with a little pb when serving.

Tags: vegan, recipes, baking, desserts, sweets, chocolate, banana, cupcakes

<clipSource>http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=279</clipSource>

Zucchini Muffins

clipped by: jlshen

Clip Source: www.fattypepper.com

Zucchini Muffins

Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Cool in pan for 20 minutes, then remove muffins to wire rack to cool completely.

<clipSource>http://www.fattypepper.com/?p=133</clipSource>

Why Bogart's Kiss Is Your Kiss, His Soda Your Soda

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: Mirror neurons help explain how we connect to each others' emotions.

Clip Source: discovermagazine.com

Within the brains of humans, apes, and monkeys is a small set of neurons that simulate in real time the actions of others. When you see Humphrey Bogart lock lips with Ingrid Bergman, the same brain cells fire as when you kiss your honey. When you hear your coworker crack open a soda, in your brain it’s as if you’d opened the can yourself.

Since their discovery in monkeys less than two decades ago, mirror neurons have been called into service to explain just about everything that makes us human—from empathy and language to politics and pornography. Are these cells really the be-all and end-all of human nature? In one of the first books on the subject, neuroscientist Marco Iacoboni clearly explains what we do know (and how) and what we don’t know (or can’t). Want to learn what mirror neurons have to do with Super Bowl commercials, violent video games, autism, addiction, and even free will? With all the bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and post-baseball trips to the bar, indulging in alcoholic drinks is something most of us like to do.
So how do we avoid sabotaging the hard work we’ve been doing?

Here’s a list of drinks to help keep your damage in check:

1) Rum & Diet Coke - if you can stand the aspartame, this one is only 65 calories.

2) Vodka & Soda - also 65 calories. Try it with flavored vodka to make it taste better!

3) White wine spritzer - 4 oz of white wine topped with soda - 80 calories.

4) Bloody Mary (1 oz. vodka, 4 oz. tomato juice, dash of Tabasco and pepper) - 90 calories

5) Lite beer - my favorite is Corona Light with a wedge of lime. 100 calories.

Having just one or two of the wrong drink can pack in a lot of unwanted calories.
