Connecticut's Supreme Court ruled Friday that same-sex couples have the right to marry, making the state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize such unions.

The problem is that constitutions don't grant rights to any couples. Constitutions grant rights to individuals. Can anyone deny that an individual is being treated the same as every other individual if the same rules are applied to all? If every person is able to marry someone of the opposite sex, then the same "constitutional principles" are applied to all. If no person is allowed to marry his sibling, the same rules are applied to all. If no person is allowed to have more than one spouse, the same rules are applied to all. If the definition of marriage includes "not marrying one's sibling" and "not engaging in polygamy," and these are not unconstitutional limitations, then a definition of marriage that creates boundaries is not unconstitutional...as long as the same definition is applied to everyone.

How do you explain to a young Palestinian that his father is being kept in Israeli jail because he was born Palestinian? How do you explain to a young Palestinian that his sibling was shot because he or she wanted to look out of the window? How do you explain to a young Palestinian that he has to ration his drinking water so an Israeli youngster can swim? How do you explain to a young Palestinian that all of the countries in the world are against you because you keep saying no to occupation, corruption and imperialism?

No one was psychologically prepared for hard times when they hit, because, according to the tenets of positive thinking, even to think of trouble is to bring it on.

Offspring from a single sperm donor spent more time shoaling and were closer together

Research into the behaviour of the small tropical fish known as the guppy (Poecilia reticulate) has found pairs of full-siblings spend significantly more time shoaling compared to pairs of half-sibling.

Dr Jonathan Evans and Dr Jennifer Kelley, from the University of Western Australia, believe their finding indentifies an unknown cost of polyandry (fertilisation of eggs by more than one male).

"Very few people have looked at the costs of polyandry, particularly the cost to social cohesiveness," says Evans.

Their research appears in the latest edition of the Royal Society's Biology Letters.

Shoaling, or crowding close together, is a common survival trait among fish.

"We don't know

ST. PAUL — The Republican Convention was supposed to be this city's chance to pull even with its bigger, richer, slicker "twin." Once again, however, St. Paul has been eclipsed — not by Minneapolis, but by a city at the other end of the Mississippi.

Hurricane Gustav's advance on New Orleans crushed St. Paul's hopes of showing up its perennial sibling rival, Minneapolis, and of making it clear to Katie Couric and everyone else exactly where the GOP is convening.

"I sense this real flagging, deflated feeling," said Brian Horrigan, a St. Paul resident and curator at the Minnesota Historical Society. "People feel like this isn't turning into what it was cracked up to be."

Teen Goes On Rampage Over Change In Computer Privileges, Police Say

A 15-year-old was taken into custody after police said he chased his mother with a knife and beat his brother with a sugar cane over a change in computer privileges.

The teen was charged with aggravated assault and battery after police were called to a home on the 200 block of Silver Oak Road to investigate a disturbance, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. The teen was arrested Sunday and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Sharpes.

Police said the boy was on the home computer when he grew angry over changes to the system. Police said the teen then threw several objects and picked up a knife and a stick of sugar cane.

The older brother and mother told police the teen pushed his mother several times while clutching the knife. He also struck the brother with the sugar cane, police said.

The teen told police he felt threatened by his mother and sibling.

He was arrested by police and taken into custody.

Freddie Mac was forced to offer unusually rich terms to investors in a $3 billion auction of its debt, raising anew concerns about the health of the mortgage giant, a vital prop for the U.S. housing market.

Investors increasingly believe the U.S. government will take steps to rescue Freddie Mac and its sibling, Fannie Mae. The Treasury Department recently received authority from Congress to bail out the two companies, although it stopped short of doing so. Both now play a dominant role in financing mortgages. A rise in the companies' borrowing costs could translate into higher mortgage rates for consumers, prolonging the housing slump.

Who needs to be "green" when you can go really, really fast? Well, Shelby Supercars figures it can have it both ways, with an all-electric version of the Ultimate Aero, the Ultimate Aero EV. Seeing how the Ultimate Aero is already the world's faster production car (at least officially, sorry Buggati), they don't see it as much of a leap of faith for this new version to carry that mantle into the electric space: "I think we can do it faster, leaner and cleaner than any other manufacturer," says the ever-modest SSC founder Jerod Shelby. The new car will be powered by a single 373kW electric motor, with a dual-motor "high performance" version being considered, which should give its gas guzzling sibling some serious competition around the track. Testing will begin in February next year, with full production supposed to commence in Q4 2009.
