The 20-year contract is part of a raft of deals Iraq is close to formalizing in a bid to catapult itself to the world’s third largest oil producer after decades of war and economic decline.

ExxonMobil, partnering Royal Dutch Shell, beat Russia’s LUKOIL – which had teamed up with US oil-major ConocoPhillips – and two other groups led by France’s Total and China’s CNPC.

“This is better for us,” the Iraqi oil official said.

The pact on West Qurna comes after British oil major BP Plc. and China’s CNPC on Tuesday signed an agreement for the Rumaila oil field: Iraq’s first major new oil deal since the 2003 US-led invasion.

A group led by Italian oil major Eni also signed an initial agreement on Monday to develop the Zubair oilfield, and Iraq said it also expected to ink an agreement with Nippon Oil Corp on Nassiriya in the coming days.

Make Milk Foam in Your Microwave for Gourmet Froth at Home

Wish you could get a good froth on your coffee but don't want to shell out for a frother? Cooking weblog The Kitchn details how to make your own gourmet froth at home with your microwave and a mason jar.

The Kitchn walks us through the process of heating and shaking your filled mason jar, to create maximum foam.

Find a jar with a lid and fill it with as much milk as you normally like in your coffee (or other hot beverage!). The milk should fill the jar no more than half way to allow room for the foam.

Shake the jar with the lid on as hard as you can until the milk has become frothy and doubled in size. This takes us about 30 seconds.

Take the lid off and microwave for another 30 seconds. The foam will rise to the top of the milk and the heat from the microwave will help stabilize it.

Pour the milk into your coffee using a spoon to hold back the foam. Then scoop the foam on top!

Plastic surgeons in the U.S. have two choices of manufacturers for breast implants that are FDA approved. Both companies (Mentor and Inamed) are responsible and make excellent products, but in our opinion, Mentor's are better. All of our board certified plastic surgeons use Mentor implants almost exclusively. Here's why:

Mentor's implants have a lower deflation rate, which means that our patients are less likely to experience the need for secondary surgery due to deflation.
In our experience, the outer edge (shell) of the Mentor implant is less likely to wrinkle when implanted.
Again, due to differences in the shell, we find that Mentor implants are less palpable (less able to feel the edges) once they are implanted.

Please understand that all implants can occasionally leak, wrinkle, or are palpable.

Advent calendars have been a holiday tradition for centuries, and over that time countless versions have come and gone. While the more common variety is the rectangular shape with small, paper windows for chocolates, there are more creative renditions to consider, such as the walnut shell idea presented here. Besides the high level of creativity this one requires (teeny, tiny gifts only!), the best part of this Advent calendar is that it's green; you're not buying anything new. (Well, you might have to make a trip to the store for the walnuts — organic, of course.) DIY walnut treasure chest

Walnut Treasure Chest

You will need:

a walnut
3/8" - 1/2" brass fittings (from the miniature dept of a craft or hobby store)
small drill
small estucheon pins
epoxy glue
small pieces of velour

Clean and smooth the inside of a perfectly split walnut. Holding the 2 halves securely together, use a small rasp or grinder to somewhat smooth and flatten a small patch on both "long" sides of the shell. this will help you to position the hinge and latch.

Hold the hinge in position against the shell and mark the holes. Drill a tiny hole at each mark. Reposition the hinge, lining up the fastening holes and secure with a little epoxy glue - be very careful not to get glue into the hinge itself.

Repeat the process for the latch on the other side.

Tap a small estucheon pin through the holes and bend over the excess on the inside of the box and secure with a dab of epoxy glue.

Cut two pieces of velour in a circle, a bit larger than the rim of the nutshell.

Secure them into the walnut halves with a little glue

Millions of people in the Niger Delta have seen their lives and livelihoods destroyed by Shell's approach to oil production. Water pollution has killed the fish they rely on for food and income. Land pollution has made it impossible to grow crops. And today 75% of the area's rural population have no access to clean water.

Shell has failed to meet its legal obligation to clean up its mess; it has even failed to meet its own stated business principles.

It's time to stop putting profit before people. It's time for Shell to clean up its act.

the cubes meet the outer shell. I noticed that
there were a hell of a lot of cubes facing the
outside wall where she was dangling.

Also who do you think built the cube? I loved the
bit near the middle of the film where they describe
it as one big bungle that no one could stop, and

BAGHDAD: An ExxonMobil-led consortium has beaten rival Russian, French and Chinese groups to bag initial rights to develop Iraq’s West Qurna field, the Oil Ministry said, adding momentum to Iraq’s bid to unlock its oil riches. With reserves of 8.7 billion barrels, West Qurna is among the prized Iraqi fields eyed by Western oil majors as they face flat or lower output at home and stiff competition from Chinese and Indian oil companies in bidding for oilfields elsewhere.

“The consortium led by ExxonMobil, which includes Shell, won the contract to develop West Qurna Phase One oilfield,” Oil Ministry spokesman Asim Jihad said.

The initial deal was signed in Baghdad on Thursday but needs Cabinet approval before it can be finalized.

it's not out of the question that the Democrats in the House and Senate will go for a kamikaze rush to push MediCoup through Congress as quickly as possible. It would not be difficult. Normal Americans think we can defeat the "Blue Dog Democrats" at the polls, and that is true. But Obama just has to pick up the phone and tell the Dogs he will guarantee them jobs even if they are defeated. How about Ambassador to Upper Slobbovia?

Everything we know about these people suggests that they are single-minded fanatics with basically only one game plan, which is to consolidate as much power as possible as quickly as possible. Everything flows from that. In Europe, the socialists have insulated themselves from elections. That's how they can do outrageous things time and time again and still stay in power.

All they have to do is vote for Mob-O-Care as soon as possible, knowing they will be defeated, but also knowing that the Machine always takes care of its own.

BP and Shell are among dozens of oil companies preparing to raise production from 1.3 million barrels a day at present to 2.5 million by 2015 and 6 million by 2030.

The sands contain 174 billion barrels of proven reserves, the world’s second-largest reserves after Saudi Arabia. With improved techniques, Canada hopes to extract between 315 billion and 1.7 trillion barrels.

A Co-operative Bank study calculated that, even if all other carbon dioxide emissions stopped, fully exploiting the tar sands would still tip the world into catastrophic climate change by raising global temperatures more than 2C above pre-industrial levels. Extracting each barrel of crude from the sticky mass of sand, clay and bitumen produces two to three times as much CO2 as drilling for a barrel of conventional oil.

Alberta’s latest proposal to rid tar sands of their dirty image is a C$2 billion subsidy for carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities.
