Last night in the wonderful Château de La Napoule outside Cannes, an exquisite Cognac was unveiled to the world. Louis XIII Rare Cask comprises a blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie aged between 40 and 100 years.

The blend, identified by cellar master Pierrette Trichet in 2004, marks the first time in the history of ultra-premium Cognac Louis X111 that one cask has been presented as a special edition.

Last night, guests discovered the cacophany of flavours that this unique blend has produced. Rare Cask will go on shelf at €10,000.

Pa. woman, daughter hold signs admitting theft

In exchange for no jail time, a woman and her adult daughter have agreed to stand outside a Pennsylvania courthouse holding signs saying they stole a gift card from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday.

Fifty-six-year-old Evelyn Border and 35-year-old Tina Griekspoor stood outside the court for 4 1/2 hours Tuesday.

Because the women agreed to hold the signs, Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins says he'll ask for probation instead of jail when they plead guilty to the theft.

The girl's mother planned to drive by the courthouse to teach her daughter the importance of obeying the law.

Higgins says they swiped a gift card that the girl set on a shelf while a Walmart employee helped her.

Walmart Caskets For Sale Online, Starting At $999 (PHOTOS)

Never mind its typical merchandise, the world's largest retailer has a new item on the shelf.

You can now purchase Walmart caskets, a development that could threaten funeral homes. Beginning at $999 for lower-end models, all 27 caskets in the Walmart online inventory cost less than $2,000, except the "Sienna Bronze Casket," which sells for $3,199. The caskets come from Star Legacy Funeral Network, Inc., of McHenry, Ill., and ship within 48 hours.

But common sense might suggest that this was not appropriate use of the accommodation allowance and MPs whining now that it’s unfair for them to have to pay back money spent on lavish re decorations or topiary trimming need to get a grip on reality. The demand that the tax payer should pay £18.000 for a book shelf for a MP in his last months before permanent retirement is offensive under all aspects of sense and even law. The matter of MPs buying and switching houses at the tax payer expense is an offense under law and an offense under decency and for Labour to defend the perpetrators is offensive to the friends and families of those dying for this Once Great Nation.

LET A JURY IN A COURT OF LAW BE THE TRUE ARBITER.

Expenses are allowable for those costs "INCURRED WHOLEY, NECESSARILY, AND EXCLUSIVELY" in the performance of parliamentary duties. Last checked, that didn’t include pet food, lawn mowers, tree-planting, garden wall building or the acquisition of book-shelves just three months before retirement.

Scientists Create New Life Form to Clean Up Water

The live machine is to be entered in The International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, which will be held Halloween weekend at MIT. The annual competition is built on the premise that life can be broken down into a warehouse of off-the-shelf, interchangeable parts and reassembled into creatures that have never existed.

Over 100 teams will use synthetic biology (similar to genetic engineering) to show that DNA building blocks (BioBricks) don’t have to come from nature and can be designed and built from standardized parts that behave predictably.

The hope is that these tiny factories will produce clean biofuels, powerful new medicines and environmental pollution sponges.

U-Va. students are using 'BioBricks' to try to build an original life form

Creating an original organism required no bolt of lightning for a team of University of Virginia students. But it did take buckets of ice, vials of bacteria and a FedEx delivery.

Nestled in the package were bits of DNA, whipped up in California and ordered online. When they arrived at a lab crowded with flasks, pipettes and aging equipment held together with pieces of red tape, the students plunged vials of E. coli bacteria into the ice-filled buckets. Then they heated the vials up and cooled them down again.

During that process, the tiny bacterial cells cracked open just enough to let the DNA inside, and a new life form was born: an army of tiny arsenic-absorbers, offering the possibility of cheaper, easier ways to clean up contaminated water.

Adherents call this kind of science synthetic biology. Critics call it scary.

Z Machine scientists have been pushing up the power generated by this machine for twenty-five years.

Sandia's Z machine has produced plasmas that exceed temperatures of 2 billion degrees Kelvin -- hotter than the interiors of stars.

First, the radiated x-ray output was as much as four times the expected kinetic energy input.

Ordinarily, in non-nuclear reactions, output energies are less -- not greater -- than the total input energies. More energy had to be getting in to balance the books, but from where could it come?

One explanation is that fusion is taking place. This could mean that fusion reactors could be made smaller, cheaper, and sooner than theorized in the past.

Black Bear Makes A Beer Run

Shoppers in a Wisconsin grocery store got an unexpected surprise when a 125-pound black bear wandered inside and headed straight for the beer cooler.

The bear stopped Friday night at Marketplace Foods in Hayward, about 140 miles northeast of Minneapolis, sauntering through the automatic doors and heading straight for the liquor department.

It calmly climbed up 12 feet onto a shelf in the beer cooler where it sat for about an hour while employees helped evacuate customers and summoned wildlife officials.

Officials from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tranquilized the animal and took it out of the store. Store workers say the bear seemed content in the cooler and did not consume any alcohol.
