The teenager survived a terrifying ordeal
when he was bitten in the face by one of the killer beasts – in his own bedroom.

The 'attack' happened when the 14-year-old sleepwalked into a long-dead souvenir shark hanging on the wall of his nautical-themed room.

He was left with the creature embedded in his cheek and blood pouring from a wound. His mother, Susan, said: 'It was like something out of a horror film.'

Jaws struck in the middle of the night at the family home in Dudley, West Midlands.

Mrs Hawthorne was woken by her son's screams but arrived too late to fend off the deadly fish – a holiday souvenir.

'The shark must have been embedded in Sam's cheek for about 15 minutes and he was in a lot of pain,' she said.

Fortunately, Sam escaped with just a small scar. 'It was the most frightening experience of my life,' he said.

<clipSource>http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=149540&in_page_id=2</clipSource>

Australian pokes shark in eye during attack

clipped by: hitchhiker08
clipper's remarks: You got that right mate - or you sock their snoot; depends which diver would have the presence of mind to do it while being dragged underwater?! That story clocks in at number two on our list, just ahead of the true story of the USS Indianapolis attacks that "Jaws'" shark hunter, Quint, recounts in gory detail to Chief Brody and Matt Hooper.

Tags: nature

<clipSource>http://animals.howstuffworks.com/fish/shark-attack-stories.htm</clipSource>

Global Warming Causes Shark Attacks

clipped by: merrie
clipper's remarks: And as long as we have an increase in human hours in the water, we will have an increase in shark bites.'

Some experts suggest that an abundance of seals has attracted high numbers of sharks, while others believe that overfishing has hit their food chain. 'I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's a convenient excuse,' Burgess said. Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures. 'You'll find that some species will begin to appear in places they didn't in the past with some regularity,' he said.

On a tip from mega.
Posted by Van Helsing

Clip Source: www.moonbattery.com

Global Warming Causes Shark Attacks

Even the hoaxers are admitting that it isn't getting warmer and probably won't for years. But that's no reason not to panic. The nonexistent global warming phenomenon is now causing shark attacks.

There have been four fatal shark attacks already this year, after only one last year. Sure it could be due to more people in the water, an overabundance of seals resulting in an overabundance of sharks, or most likely, random chance. But the Guardian reports:

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

In the first four months of this year, there were four fatal shark attacks worldwide, compared with one in the whole of 2007, according to the International Shark Attack File at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville.

'The one thing that's affecting shark attacks more than anything else is human activity,' said Dr George Burgess of Florida University, a shark expert who maintains the database. You’re way more likely to be “scared to death” than to be eaten by a shark. Fact is, heart failure is still the leading cause of death in the U.S. by far - 652,486 deaths in 2004. There were just 2 shark-related deaths in the U.S. that same year, only one in 2005, and none in 2006. In the U.S. during this period, there were 761 confirmed shark attacks, with 39 deaths. Hawaii accounted for 100 of these attacks during almost 500 years, resulting in 15 deaths. So how does this compare to other types of accidental deaths?

Shark Attack Comparisons

”	In the U.S., your chances of dying from a lightning strike are 30 times greater than dying of a shark attack.

Tags: shark

<clipSource>http://flickrbikini.com/babes/?p=805</clipSource>

Leading Causes of Death--Real vs. Feared

clipped by: blueridge
clipper's remarks: Note that you are more apt to kill yourself through self destructive behaviors than from the boogeyman "terrorists" or other crimes.
Biggest fears aside, the Journal of the American Medical

causes of death in the United States (in 2000). Overwhelmingly,
these causes stem from our own, modifiable behaviors.

Sharks attack from below and up, so get yourself flat to the ocean floor and wait for it to swim away. Stay calm, don't panic.

Remember you have to totally over-exaggerate the size of the beast later, when you're at the pub, bragging about how you survived your ordeal. It's the custom. Florida.

She said: "I reached back with my hand and felt all these gashes on me, and there was blood running down my body and pooling in the boat."

"I was screaming. There was blood all over."

Ms Lynch had 17 puncture wounds. Doctors said the shark's teeth missed all major organs but were close to her lungs.

A shark expert said Lynch may have been bitten by a roughly 6-foot-long bull shark.

She joked: "Either it didn't like the taste of human of it thought I was too boney."

"It's just one of those freak things. I wont hesitate to go back into the sea but not when it's dark."

Worldwide there are fewer than 100 shark attacks every year and just a handful of deaths.

It's nuts to fear plane crashes more than car crashes; loopy to be more afraid of online sexual predators than of lightning; irrational to pay more attention to shark attacks than to climate change. Doubtless there's something about our lizard brain stems that accounts for our poor choices in boogeymen, and thus for the media's pandering to our catastrophilia. But no vestigial pathway in our panic-hardwiring is an excuse for the Bush administration's current ramping up of its shameless exploitation of our fears.

Each of the 95 times President Bush mentioned Al Qaeda in his South Carolina speech last week, and each of the innumerable times in coming days that his disciplined minions will push the Iraq-is-about-Al-Qaeda button, the real message is, of course, 9/11.
