I am often asked if the Olympic village - the vast restaurant and housing conglomeration that hosts the world's top athletes for the duration of the Games - is the sex-fest it is cracked up to be. My answer is always the same: too right it is. I played my first Games in Barcelona in 1992 and got laid more often in those two and a half weeks than in the rest of my life up to that point. That is to say twice, which may not sound a lot, but for a 21-year-old undergraduate with crooked teeth, it was a minor miracle.

Lawyers who sued the makers of the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas profess to be shocked, simply shocked, that few people who bought the game were offended by sex scenes buried in its software.

Any buyer upset about hidden sex in the violent game could file a claim under a settlement the lawyers struck with the game’s makers, Rockstar Games and its corporate parent, Take-Two Interactive. Of the millions of people who bought the San Andreas version after its release in 2004, exactly 2,676 filed claims.

“Am I disappointed? Sure,” said Seth R. Lesser, lead lawyer for the plaintiffs. “We can’t guess as to why now, several years later, people care or don’t care. The merits of the case were clear.”

A SEX shop has been recommended for approval by the Rural City of Wangaratta tomorrow night, despite widespread opposition from across the local community.

Wangaratta businessman Craig Patrick is planning to open the x-rated store, to be known as Slap ‘n’ Tickle, on industrial land in Sandford Road.

It would sell pornographic material including magazines, DVDs, lingerie, games and marital aids.

The proposal has drawn considerable objection from local residents, including 32 individual letters and petitions from eight different church organisations totalling 673 signatures.

Objectors have raised fears for the moral welfare of the community, and for minors who may become exposed to pornographic material.

But a report to be tabled at a council meeting tomorrow states the development meets the requirements of the planning scheme, and can not be refused on moral grounds alone.

Games such as "hit me, hit me" and "rape me, rape me", where schoolchildren chase each other and then pretend to hit or rape each other, are being played at South African schools, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said in a report on school-based violence

"This game demonstrates the extent and level ... [that the] brutalisation of the youth has reached and how endemic sexual violence has become in South Africa

During public hearings, on which the report is based, the SAHRC heard from NGO Community Action toward a Safe Environment that games such as these indicate how violence has become part of children's identities.

"Just over two-fifths [41,1%] of the young people interviewed had been victims of some form of crime,"

The CJCP also found that toilets are an area of the school feared most by pupils.

"Research indicates that learners perceive school toilets as the least safe areas, as are grounds and playing fields,
