An octopus with nine arms was spotted at the Marusan Seafood Shop in Marugame, Japan (Kagawa prefecture) on October 26, one day after it was caught in the Seto Inland Sea.

Masa Koita, the 60-year-old shop manager, noticed the abnormal Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) after he had boiled it in preparation for market.

Octopus has 8 arms in case you don’t know… in fact the word Octopus is derived from Greek word which literally translate to ‘eight-legs’.

People often referred to the arms as tentacles, but it is not a biological correct term. Octopuses don’t have tenctacles, squids do.

100 Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do (Part 1)

Herewith is a modest list of dos and don’ts for servers at the seafood restaurant I am building. Veteran waiters, moonlighting actresses, libertarians and baristas will no doubt protest some or most of what follows. They will claim it homogenizes them or stifles their true nature. And yet, if 100 different actors play Hamlet, hitting all the same marks, reciting all the same lines, cannot each one bring something unique to that role?

1. Do not let anyone enter the restaurant without a warm greeting.

2. Do not make a singleton feel bad. Do not say, “Are you waiting for someone?” Ask for a reservation. Ask if he or she would like to sit at the bar.

3. Never refuse to seat three guests because a fourth has not yet arrived.

5. Tables should be level without anyone asking. Fix it before guests are seated.

7. Do not announce your name. No jokes, no flirting, no cuteness.

10. Do not inject your personal favorites when explaining the specials.

The devastation Man’s appetite for seafood is wreaking on the ocean environment has been thrown into sharp relief by a “red fish list” published by Greenpeace.

These are the fish which are most in peril from destructive, illegal or simple over fishing. It lists 19 fish, two shellfish and one crustacean.

However, the red list is really aimed at getting supermarkets to take responsibility for the seafood they sell, rather than being allowed to get away with shrugging their shoulders and blaming the consumer.

So, when you visit the red list page, take the time to select your state from the pull down list in the top right hand corner. This will produce a list of supermarkets ranked according to six criteria.

The oceans cover over 70% of the planet’s surface and large, migratory fish populations such as cod and tuna are an integral part of these eco-systems.

So don’t just pick and choose your fish, pick and choose your supermarket as well, and let them know you’re doing it.

Snooty wine pairing rules, such as the edict that one must only drink white wine with fish, now have a little data behind them, according to a new study. Researchers found a correlation between the high iron content of red wine and a nasty, fishy aftertaste when the reds are sipped with seafood.

Children who eat sweets and chocolate every day are more likely to be violent as adults.

A study involving 17,500 people is the first to look into effects of childhood diet on adult violence. It found people who ate sweets daily at the age of 10 were significantly more likely to have been convicted of a violent crime by the age of 34.

Some researchers suggested they had not learned to delay gratification, but other experts said already "difficult" children might be given more sweets. It is also possible that the sweets lead to addiction to certain additives, and that these may contribute towards adult aggression.

a 2004 study in the British Journal of Psychiatry looked at dietary habits and mental health, and found that a higher dietary intake of refined sugar anddairy products predicted a worse 2-year outcome of schizophrenia.In addition, alow dietary intake of fish and seafood predicated high prevalence of depression.
