Muscular bronze stallion with weird human genitalia advertises provincial hotel

A bronze sculpture of a stallion holding a piece of rail in its mouth was built last week in the yard of Yar Hotel

The stallion has a short-cut tail and the well-marked reproductive organ which greatly resembles the one of a man

Maxim Dikunov named his stallion Yaryzh and said that it symbolizes the struggle between nature and civilization.

According to Maxim’s mother, the management of Yar Hotel arranged a contest to choose the sculpture which could perfectly express the atmosphere of the hotel. A lot of sketches were suggested to the hotel administration. Finally they choose the stallion.

When the sculptor’s father was asked about the stallion’s human sex organ he said that “it is just a matter of nature and peopel should not stick noses in it.”

Yana Chernyshova, the hotel’s director, said that she liked this sculpture very much.

She said that the artist exceeded her expectations

it was exactly what she wanted.

Nicolas Lampert and Micaela O’Herlihy created a ten-foot rotisserie chicken out of polystyrene foam, hard coated, and then painted with latex paint and final coat of high gloss varnish.

In October, 2006 Attention Chicken! made a number of unannounced public interventions throughout Milwaukee at Bradford Beach, the woods, Walmart, National Ave, and other locations throughout the city. Reactions ranged from laughter to attacks directed at the chicken (three in one day!) More interventions and a short film by Micaela O’Herlihy coming in the future.

Wind and biomass are popular in New Mexico, but the desert sun that draws millions of tourists here also makes its solar power potential the second largest in America.

So it is that the Clean Energy State's future just may lie in the south corner of the capital city, at the end of a dry road marked by a mile-long sculpture of a snake with jewelled eyes.

Q: What are five going green tips for life you’d give guys who think eco-stuff is for wimps?

A: First, make friends with a guy who tears down buildings. My Dad is friends with a guy who does that in Akron; he’ll be tearing down a school with gargoyles and stuff and thinks it’s all garbage. My Dad takes a gargoyle home and makes an incredibly gorgeous sculpture out of it.

Second, learn how to landscape with a machete. Instead of firing up the chainsaw and using gas to trim the branches, use the machete to hack a path. Plus, you’ll look so cool sharpening it with a stone. Sit on the front stoop with a toothpick and sharpen your machete and you’ll never be f—– with.

Three, shower less frequently. You can tell your wife that you’re saving the earth.

Four, ride a motorcycle. It saves gas. My wife has always been anti-motorcycle, but she brought it up recently. If you ever wanted a motorcycle, now you can do it with a moral imperative.

Five, conserve water by drinking your whiskey straight.

Darwin's Canopy: Art inspired by evolution

London's Natural History Museum is to decorate the ceiling of one of its major rooms with a permanent art installation, inspired by evolutionary theory, in honour of Charles Darwin's bicentennial. The 10 shortlisted entrants have now been announced and their ideas are on display.

The artists include Turner Prize winners Rachel Whiteread and Mark Wallinger. Proposals include a large-scale sculpture of Darwin's "tree of life" diagram, painted eyes from different animals, and panels indented with footprints.

The chosen piece will be installed on the ceiling of the Central Hall, the previous decorations of which were lost in the 1970s.

The final artwork will go on display on 12 February 2009, the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth.
