Scrobbling usage differs from radio usage.

In order to stream via the radio, you're effectively downloading at a constant rate of 128kbps, which is 16Kilobytes a second.

Given the metadata that goes on top of this, you'd be using about 60MB an hour.

If this poses an issue on your network speed, this suggests that your connection isn't really that fast. I'd inquire with whomever maintains your network to find out just how fast your connection is and to see how much of it you're using up by streaming.

Fortunately, it is fairly easy to use if you carefully follow this step by step tutorial. Once you get the hang of starting Pandora’s Jar, you will soon have nicely labeled mp3 copies of everything you listen to on Pandora filling your hard drive. This program’s “low” rating is solely because it is hard to use, if I were just rating it’s ability to do what it claims, it would be at least a 4.5.

Rating: 3.5

What is Scrobbling?

Scrobbling a song means that when you listen to it, the name of the song is sent to Last.fm and added to your music profile.

Once you've signed up and downloaded Last.fm, you can scrobble songs you listen to on your computer or iPod automatically. Start scrobbling yourself, and see what artists you really listen to the most. Songs you listen to will also appear on your Last.fm profile page for others to see.

Millions of songs are scrobbled every day. This data helps Last.fm to organise and recommend music to people; we use it to create personalised radio stations, and a lot more besides.

You can see what Last.fm users listened to the most last week by clicking the Charts button at the top of the page. Add your musical taste into the mix and help us get some decent music into the top 10 :)

            Create a Last.fm profile.

When Last.fm automatically sends the name of each song you play to your musical profile, we call this “scrobbling.” It’s the basis of everything we do!
