Most people assume the Biblical prohibition against male homosexuality also includes sex between women – lesbianism or female bisexuality. However, this is a questionable conclusion, since the Bible makes little or no mention of women with regard to this subject, and because the Bible, for better or worse, often holds men and women to different standards regarding sex and sexual roles. Therefore, we believe that lesbianism cannot be seen in the same light as male homosexuality through the Scriptures.

Of course, many heterosexual men, rather than feeling threatened by lesbian sex, are fascinated by it, and in this case, the exploration of the wife’s sexuality with another woman could actually serve to draw the husband and wife closer together. However, in this situation we must ask what degree of participation is appropriate for the male, and how should he conduct himself so as not to commit adultery against his wife.

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced its purchase of a minority stake in a privately held Indian company that manufactures, markets and sells beauty products under the Forest Essentials brand, which is based on ayurvedic formulations.

"Forest Essentials gives us a stronger presence in the rapidly expanding prestige beauty business in India," said William P. Lauder, CEO, The Estée Lauder Companies.

Want to break up this summer's family reunion a little early? Mention gay marriage. Some of the cousins, citing the Hebrew scriptures, will call it an abomination. Others, citing the Biblical command to love our neighbors as ourselves, will say it's the proper arrangement for couples of the same gender who love each other and had no choice over their sexual orientation in the first place. Whatever your take on the subject, gay marriage may be the most divisive issue to face America's faith community since slavery. The latest opinion polls bear this out. A CBS poll in June showed 30% of Americans favor allowing same-sex marriage, 36% against and 28% favoring civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.

Each of these initiatives is, however, not only correct, but each brings practice into conformity with the Constitution. I rejoice in this decision.

Chaplains are in the military to serve the spiritual needs of our service men and women. They are not imposed on those who do not choose to avail themselves of their services. No one should have the religion of another imposed upon him or her involuntarily. Saying prayers at meals that are mandatory is an imposition. This would be especially true if the prayers assume a particular view of God, which all prayers seem to do. The ACLU is absolutely correct to make this request.

America was founded on the principle of religious liberty and the separation of church and state. Yet in many parts of America the majority religious viewpoint of the community was imposed upon the public schools and its symbols displayed in public places. Majority religious traditions are delusional in their understanding of imperialism regarding religious truth. That is how we get claims of inerrant scriptures and infallible popes.

God Isn't His name?!

Proverbs 30:4 "Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what [is] his name, and what [is] his son's name, if thou canst tell?"

This scripture clearly asks what the names of The Father and The Son are, "If" you can tell. What do you mean if ?!? Aren't their names readily available in The Scriptures? I mean it says "God", "LORD" and "Jesus" all over the place in The Scriptures!

Why would it ask if we would be able to tell?

Because "God" and "LORD" are titles, NOT names!

The Scriptures are our guidebook for life. Our Heavenly Father left His word for us to learn and live by.

How many of us really read it daily? Do we just read it, or do we study it?

Do we learn for ourselves what it says and means or do we accept someone else's opinion?

These are very important questions! Our eternal salvation depends on what we know!

Our Heavenly Father left every instruction we will ever need to ensure we live our lives righteously, by His standards, inside The Scriptures.

Because of your sins, you are sentenced to death.

You cannot pay that penalty without losing eternal life, because if you died for your sins, you could not resurrect yourself. You would be dead forever.

You owe something that you cannot pay!

Please ponder these facts for a moment:

This is true for every person on the face of this Earth!

Our Heavenly Father even left directions for us on how to love Him!

Codex Sinaiticus

Produced in the middle of the fourth century, the Codex is one of the two earliest Christian Bibles. (The other is the Codex Vaticanus in Rome.)

What is the Codex Sinaiticus?

The Codex is the remains of a huge hand-written book that contained all the Christian scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, together with two late first-century Christian texts, the Shepherd of Hermas and the Epistle of Barnabas.

Just over half of the original book has survived, now dispersed between four institutions: St Catherine’s Monastery, the British Library, Leipzig University Library (Germany), and the National Library of Russia in St Petersburg. At the British Library the largest surviving portion – 694 pages – includes the whole of the New Testament.

It cannot be denied that the scriptures are historical texts, and reading them with integrity means reading them historically. That enterprise is a shared one in which believer, agnostic and atheist participate on an equal footing, I think, and could help keep each other methodologically honest.
