Anti-Scientology org aims at 'Sons'

An anti-Scientology group called Anonymous has announced plans to stage a sidewalk protest timed to the opening night of the Broadway revival of “All My Sons” Oct. 16.

“Sons” co-stars Katie Holmes in a supporting role. Actress is associated with Scientology through her marriage to Tom Cruise, one of Scientology’s big-name adherents.

Anonymous, said to be a loose confederation of about 9000 people, has organized a series of anti-Scientology protests over the last several months, with members showing up for events wearing masks.

Now a website designed to monitor editorial changes made on Wikipedia has found thousands of self-serving edits and traced them to their original source. It has turned out to be hugely embarrassing for armies of political spin doctors and corproate revisionists who believed their censorial interventions had gone unnoticed.

Some of the guilty parties identified by the website, such as the Labour Party, the CIA, Republican Party and the Church of Scientology, are well-known for their obsession with PR. But others, such as the Anglican and Catholic churches or even the obscurely titled Perro de Presa Canario Dog Breeders Association of America, are new to the dark arts of spin.

The website, Wikiscanner, was designed by Virgil Griffith, a graduate student from the California Institute of Technology, who downloaded the entire encyclopaedia, isolating the internet-based records of anonymous changes and IP addresses.

Singer and Songwriter Legend Isaac Hayes Died Today

clipper's remarks: He appeared in episodes of The A-Team and Miami Vice, though his acting wasn't limited to the small screen. Hayes also had roles in films such as Shaft (1971), Escape from New York (1981), I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995).

In a tragic twist of fate, Hayes most recently filmed a small role playing himself in the upcoming movie Soul Man, starring Bernie Mac, who died yesterday at the age of 50 from pneumonia.

Hayes is survived by his wife, 12 children and 16 grandchildren.

It's another sad day in Hollywood.

E! News has confirmed that Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer and songwriter Isaac Hayes passed away early Sunday morning in Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 65. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Hayes made history when he won the 1972 Oscar for Best Original Song for the theme song to Shaft, becoming the first African-American to win an Academy Award in a non-acting category. He also won two Grammy Awards that year for his musical work on the film. A third Grammy followed in 1973 for the album "Black Moses" and he was eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hayes' career experienced a resurgence in the late 1990s when he provided the voice of Chef on the hit Comedy Central series South Park. He played the smooth-talking, ladies-lovin' chef from 1997 to 2006, until he clashed with the show's creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, over the show's treatment of Scientology.

Anonymous Relaunches Fight Against Scientology

The Anonymous group is calling for disillusioned former members to return to the fold ahead of a new phase in its battle against the Church of Scientology in a video posted on YouTube on Friday.

"Those who answered the call outnumber the number from the motherland ... This has resulted in Project Chanology becoming polluted by people who are judgemental of our ideology and serve the interests of special interest groups. The time for making allies at the expanse of our ideals is over," the video states.

The time for the movement's original creators to "return and reclaim" it has come, the video states. This will mark a "shift to more subtle and shocking tactics" as part of phase three of the operation. What these tactics are remains to be seen but the video warns the leaders of Scientology that their "card is marked" and promises new (unspecified) initiatives, starting on 8 August.

Scientology Slapped With Civil RICO Suit

Notre Dame law professor G. Robert Blakey, one of its main drafters, insists that Congress never intended to restrict its application to the Mob. "We don't want one set of rules for people whose collars are blue or whose names end in vowels, and another set for those whose collars are white and have Ivy League diplomas," he says.

Presumably the same goes for people whose collars are red and who rule the Galactic Confederacy.

Tom Cruise is named in a $250 million federal lawsuit that is using the RICO statute against the Church of Scientology. Ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese, a longtime critic of the church, filed suit in Southern District Court in Florida on July 15 alleging, among other things, that members of the church harassed him after he left.

One of Letterese's beefs is that the church allegedly uses a business book, "Effective Sales Closing Techniques," as part of its teachings. He says this violates his intellectual property rights, since he bought the rights to the book from the widow of author Leslie Dane.

As for the Dane book, Pouw said, "Earlier this month, the federal Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit already rejected similar claims and affirmed that the church's use of the book in question was fair use. Mr. Letterese was penalized $266,000 by a California court for refusing to provide evidence to support many of the same allegations."

If RICO applies, the damages can be tripled.

Tom Cruise is named in a $250 million federal lawsuit that is using the RICO statute against the Church of Scientology, the New York Daily News reports.

Ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese, a longtime critic of the church, filed suit in Southern District Court in Florida on July 15 alleging, among other things, that members of the church harassed him after he left.

Letterese calls the church a "crime syndicate" and wants it broken up under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law, just as the feds have broken up Mafia families.

He singles out Cruise, saying that Scientology head David Miscavage is "aided and abetted by the actions of Tom Cruise, his right-hand man for foreign and domestic promotion, as well as for foreign and domestic lobbying. He has assisted the syndicate in acquiring funds and [made] his own donations of money believed to be in the multiple tens of millions of dollars."

A Sydney woman charged with the stabbing murder of her father and sister has pleaded not guilty due to mental illness.

The 26-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with murdering her father and younger sister at their Revesby home in Sydney's south-west in July 2007.

She has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to murder her mother.

The court previously heard the woman was diagnosed with a mental illness but refused to take medication because of her parents' belief in Scientology.

Justice Grove has ordered the woman be kept in a medium security unit at Long Bay jail.

He will make a judgement on the matter next week.

Normally, I wouldn't click through, but the name U-Man grabbed my attention since I happen to know it's a scientology affiliated organization "selling their Tech" in management circles.

Are they're trying to "get some raw meat into the shop"?

And it just so happens I'm looking for work right now. What do you think, should I apply? Should I mention that I graduated doing thesis on Scientology?

In San Francisco, the demonstration took place at 701 Montgomery St. In San Diego, demonstrators meet in front of Horton Plaza. The theme of this demonstration was to inform the public about the Office of Special Affairs (OSA), the 'Church' of Scientology's section involved with the suppression and harrassment of critics.

Scientologists are bastards: minister

A SOUTH Australian minister has attacked the Church of Scientology, branding its members as "bastards".

Education and Children’s Services Minister Jane Lomax-Smith made the comment to a group of protesters outside the church’s offices in Adelaide.

She was recorded and the video was posted on You Tube sometime after the protest earlier this year.

Ms Lomax-Smith was critical of Scientology’s tax-free status as a religious organisation.

"They should be taxed – the bastards," she told the small group of protesters from an internet collective called Anonymous.

“They shouldn’t be tax-free, we’re subsidising them.”

The minister approached the group whose members wear masks and asked whether they were all related to someone who had been “sucked in” by scientology.

Scientology attracts high-profile converts around the world including actor Tom Cruise who is believed to have introduced one of Australia’s richest men, Jamie Packer, to the church and its practices.

A teenager is facing prosecution for using the word "cult" to describe the Church of Scientology.

The unnamed 15-year-old was served the summons by City of London police when he took part in a peaceful demonstration opposite the London headquarters of the controversial religion.

Officers confiscated a placard with the word "cult" on it from the youth, who is under 18, and a case file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The incident happened during a protest against the Church of Scientology on May 10. Demonstrators from the anti-Scientology group, Anonymous, who were outside the church's £23m headquarters

were banned by police from describing Scientology as a cult by police because it was "abusive and insulting".

"Following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service some demonstrators were warned verbally and in writing that their signs breached section five of the Public Order Act.

A CPS spokesman said no specific advice was given to police regarding the boy's placard.

An unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise includes the outrageous claim by a handful of the group's members that Suri Cruise is the spawn of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

The controversial tome - which could earn writer Andrew Morton a hefty lawsuit - also suggests that Tom Cruise is now second in command of the Church of Scientology.

A small group of members of the Scientology sect Sea Org have outrageously theorized that Cruise's wife, Katie Holmes, was impregnated with frozen sperm from Hubbard, the group's founder, who died in 1986, according to the book.

Cruise lawyer Bert Fields told London's Daily Mail that the book is "poorly researched and badly written, and it's not really even about Tom Cruise - it's an attack on Scientology."

Morton, the Princess Diana biographer who penned the Cruise bio, shockingly used the small group's claim to compare Holmes' situation to the horror flick "Rosemary's Baby," in which a woman is impregnated by Satan.
