FOX Promises Proper Ending After ‘Dollhouse’ Canceled

FOX is promising the sci-fi series Dollhouse will have a “proper ending” despite the announcement Wednesday the show will be canceled. After FOX put Dollhouse in the attic during November sweeps, speculation ran rampant the show would not make it to a second season.

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.

The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: “Why don't you show some respect?!!” The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: “Embracing change is never easy.”

ABC's 'V' mini-series,

is “nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity,” but “it's also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the President's supporters and delight his detractors,” Miami Herald TV critic Glenn Garvin asserted in a review distributed by the McClatchy/Tribune news service and run in Tuesday's Chicago Tribune, among other papers.

Though the leader of the aliens, in Garvin's words, “is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who's come here to eat us,” the plot has a featured character, a TV journalist, aiding the effort. “Some welcome their arrival,” USA Today's Gary Levin recounted, “but the suspicious form a resistance movement, which leads the visitors' charismatic leader, Anna (Morena Baccarin), to enlist an ambitious TV reporter (Scott Wolf) as a propaganda tool.”

JAXA says the transmission technology would be safe but concedes it would have to convince the public, which may harbour images of laser beams shooting down from the sky, roasting birds or slicing up aircraft in mid-air.

IT MAY sound like sci-fi, but Japan is dead serious: by 2030 it wants to collect solar power in space and zap it down to Earth, using laser beams or microwaves.

The government has picked a group of companies and a research team to turn the ambitious, multi-billion-dollar dream of unlimited clean energy into reality.

Now Japan's bold plan is the Space Solar Power System (SSPS), in which arrays of photovoltaic dishes several square kilometres in size would hover in geostationary orbit outside the Earth's atmosphere.

Since solar power is a clean and inexhaustible energy source, we believe that this system will be able to help solve the problems of energy shortage and global warming," researchers said

Researchers are targeting a one gigawatt system, equivalent to a medium-sized atomic power plant

Maybe the most iconic and famous geek fantasy in history, is Princess Leah and her Golden Bikini in the 3rd Star Wars movie- Return of the Jedi. One of the first truly feminist characters that appeared in the genre. Princess Leah was a spoof of the princess/ damsel in distress role that usually appeared in Space Operas during the first half of the 20th

century. Leah was a princess, but she wasn’t a victim, she was strong resilient and not really in need of rescuing. During a mission to save Han Solo, Leah was captured by the gangster Jabba the Hutt and was turned to his slave, and forced to wear the famous Golden Bikini. She later kills him by chocking him to death with the chain she was tied in (and of course still wearing the Golden Bikini).

Dyson Inc.'s new bladeless electric fan resembles anything but a fan. The company calls it an "air multiplier." To the average sci-fi enthusiast, it looks like a miniature replica of a stargate — but, alas, this gadget does not create a wormhole that teleports people to distant worlds. (See pictures of 50 years of the hovercraft.)

In essence, the device works like a vacuum cleaner in reverse. The motor in the base of the fan sucks in air and pushes it up into the ring. The air rushes out of tiny, millimeter-long slots that run along the circular frame and flows down a gently sloping ramp. And as the air emerges from the ramp, it creates a circular low-pressure region that pulls in the air from behind — creating a fairly uniform flow of air through the ring. Solomon Rothman had been an aspiring filmmaker long before he could drive a car. Like everyone else, he loved movies and had some of his own ideas for films. In 2006, even though his peers thought he was either crazy or a dreamer, he set out to make a movie with just $200 and any help he could get. After 3 months, with the help of creative people, he made a feature length sexual drama called "Boy Who Never Slept." He released it free online and it spread virally, reaching millions. Afterwards, he made an open-source sci-fi film, "Jathia’s Wager" with help from people in other countries he had never met in person

What's The Difference Between Denouement And Picking At A Scab?

I was thinking about denouements a lot, after the ongoing debate over Dumbledore's funeral in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. The story's main action wraps up with the showdown between Harry, Dumbledore, Snape and Draco... do we need to see Albus going in the ground afterwards? Do we need the closure? Obviously, we know without seeing it that they're going to bury Dumbledore — there's no tradition in the Potterverse of eating the honored dead, that I know of — and you could argue the story ends with Dumbledore dying and Harry deciding he can't go back to Hogwarts. But given that the whole sixth book is about the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore in many ways, it feels unsatisfying not to say goodbye to Dumbledore properly. It blunts the emotional impact of the whole story.
