There are a couple old home remedies you can try too. While they don’t work as well as whitening products, they are still helpful. One method is to mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and brush your teeth with that. It can be a little hard on your gums though, so if you have sensitive gums you might want to find some strawberry pulp instead. Strawberry pulp has a slight bleaching effect, and it is more gentle on your gums.

Another option (and my personal recommendation) is to try one of the free teeth whitening trials available online.

Sadly, Dennis learned that his unit would be forced to relocate to a new base, and he wasn't allowed to bring Nubs along. As he watched Nubs race alongside his Hummer as his unit drove away from the fort for the last time, he was sure that he would never see the dog again.

But two days later, a familiar face turned up at Dennis' new base: Somehow, Nubs had managed to follow the Marine unit through the Iraqi desert on foot, all the way to their new base – 70 miles away. "I won't even address the gauntlet he had to run of dog packs, wolves, and God knows what else to get here," Dennis wrote. "When he arrived he looked like he'd just been through a war zone."

Dog Travels 70 Miles to Find His Marine Best Friend

When Maj. Brian Dennis first spotted a scruffy German Shepard-Border collie mix at a fort in Iraq, the dog wasn't interested in making friends. The dog, who lived in the wild with a pack of canine companions, had already been through a lifetime's worth of pain and neglect. His ears had been cut off as a puppy, and he had been trained as a fighting dog. Now that he was finally free of his tormentors, the dog just wanted to be left alone.

But Dennis saw something special in the dog, which he nicknamed "Nubs," because of his missing ears. It took some time, but eventually Dennis had the dog eating out of his hand. One day, when Nubs showed up one day with a deep wound in his side, Dennis nursed him back to health. Soon, Dennis and Nubs were inseparable.

Like a McDonalds Vanilla Iced Coffee

I’m so glad Works for Me Wednesday is back!!

I haven’t been drinking a whole lot of coffee lately (and if I do it’s something decaf), but I ran across this copycat recipe of a McDonald’s Vanilla Iced Coffee and couldn’t resist sharing it. I also can’t resist saving money or helping others save by making things at home.

You will need:

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons cream
1/3 cup milk of your choice
2/3 cup coffee
ice
sweetener of your choice (sugar, splenda, agave, whatever…)

How to put it all together:

Make the coffee and set aside.
Combine other ingredients into a glass and mix well.
Pour coffee into glass.
Enjoy!

Why I love TED

1. I don't have to remember to visit TED or subscribe to the RSS feed because people so regularly recommend it on Twitter and elsewhere that I wind up there often enough.

2. It has a fabulously ecclectic mix of engaging speakers.

3. I've said it before but I'll say it again: the media player rocks. Look at this:

I can watch the video on the page, download it to my desktop or to iTunes (this is new since I last visited), embed it in my blog and link to it. Now that's sharing.

SplashCast lets you create your own streaming media channel that combines video, music, photos, text, narration, and RSS feeds. A wizard walks you through the steps of building your channel. Give it a feed URL and it will generate a clickable, interactive, live slideshow of all the pages in the feed, which can be annotated by anyone (not just Diigo members) with no downloads.

The fact is that this whole new media thing is still so much in its infancy that trying to explain what RSS feeds are let alone how to use them to Auntie May who thinks that the Internet is Google is incredibly hard to do in plain English.

Then you throw things like podcasts and vlogging into the mix and you start seeing a whole bunch of deer caught in the headlight looks.

93% of marketers use or plan on using e-mail in their marketing efforts, 80% use or plan to use search, and 73% employ or plan on employing behavioral targeting. Contextual targeting comes in at 69%, while 67% said they use or expect to use rich media e-mail or rich media display ads, Forrester said. Just over 50% use or plan to use blogs or social networks, 47% use or plan to use RSS, 43% go or have gone mobile, and 28% are doing or plan on doing in-game ads. 42% described their companies as aggressive when it comes to investing in marketing technology, while 58% did not.

Yahoo Pipes is an interactive tool that enables you to combine many data feeds, like RSS, into a single aggregate. Pipes offers an intuitive visual programming field that lets you filter, remix, and mash-up these feeds to your heart’s content.

In the mean time, here’s the quick guide to building your own Pipe. Note: this guide keeps it simple, but don’t be limited. Once you’ve built a basic Pipe, you can mix and remix until you’ve created the ultimate mash-up. Let’s get started.

There are many, many different ways to use Pipes. Just as in Unix programming (which is where Pipes gets its name from), the possible combinations are endless.

If you get stuck, take a look at Yahoo’s troubleshooting guide. This project is still in beta, so the kinks are still very much in evidence. We’ll keep you posted as the service evolves.
