Police: Teacher Attacked Over Witch Claim

FERNDALE, Mich. -- Ferndale police said an adult education student tossed liquid on a teacher because he believed she was a witch who needed to be purified.

Police said 20-year-old Darin Najor of Ferndale threatened the teacher last month at Taft Education Center a day after confronting her about Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," which focuses on the Salem Witch Trials.

Detective Ken Denmark told The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak that Najor says he was trying to purify the teacher with holy water. Denmark said Najor also had a lighter and wanted to, in his words, "burn the witch."

Najor is charged with assault and battery and faces an Oct. 23 hearing. He is free on bond.

Court records didn't list a lawyer for Najor, and there was no telephone listing under his name.

The military government violently repressed the demonstrations and arrested and bribed witnesses. Eigenlijk weegt de meest gebruikte betonpan Sneldek Royal evenveel per m² dan de meeste kleipannen.
Een Sneldek Royal weegt 4,2 kg per stuk en we hebben 10 stuks per m² nodig.
Een grote kleipan (type Alegra, Actua, …) weegt eveneens 4,2 kg per stuk.
Een kleinere Stormpan 44 weegt maar 2 kg maar je hebt er wel 21 stuks per m² nodig
(2x21 = 42 kg).

Government to unveil bank rescue

The UK government is poised to announce details of a £50bn rescue package for the banking system, the BBC's business editor has learned.

It will include a proposal to use taxpayers' money to invest in banks - in effect part nationalising them.

The dramatic initiative is aimed at stabilising the financial system and making sure banks have enough cash.

The news comes after a day of steep falls in UK banking stocks and a high-level Downing Street summit

Prime Minister Gordon Brown earlier held talks with Bank of England Governor Mervyn King.

The announcement comes amid a series of dramatic developments in the world financial system:

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said Wednesday would be a "real day of reckoning for the whole British economy".

Monday's meeting was attended by Mr Darling, Mr King and Lord Turner, as well as representatives of RBS, Barclays and Lloyds TSB.

The government also needed to explain how taxpayers' interests would be safeguarded

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are to pay commercial-rate rent for their Kensington Palace apartment for the first time, Buckingham Palace has said.

The couple will be charged £120,000 a year from 2010 to remain at the royal residence in London, where they have been living rent free since 2002.

The Queen has been covering the £10,000 a month cost for her cousin and his wife to live at Kensington Palace.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said in 2002 the Queen had agreed to pay the rent for the five-bedroom apartment in Kensington Palace from her own private income for up to seven years.

"The rent is paid to the grant-in-aid, provided by the government for the maintenance of the occupied royal palaces," said the statement.

"It has now been agreed that, from 2010, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent will remain at their apartment but pay the rent from their own funds."

The only known surviving chain of office from the time of Henry VIII is being put up for auction.

The king gave the gold Coleridge Collar to one of his closest advisers, Sir Edward Montagu, around 1546.

The chains showed allegiance to the monarch and the intricacy of the design and quality of the metal signified the status of the wearer.

It is expected to fetch £300,000 when it goes under the hammer at Christie's in London on 6 November.

It will be the first time that the Coleridge Collar, thought to be of the most important surviving relics of the Tudor age, has come up for auction.

This type of livery collar, as it was known, became popular when they were used by Henry IV as an official symbol of allegiance to the monarch.

Ozone reducing crop yields

LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A British study suggests ozone is reducing the yield and nutritional value of agricultural crops across the world.

The report from the Royal Society said background concentrations of ozone have increased in parts of the Northern Hemisphere by 6 percent each decade since the 1980s.

Researchers said ozone, which is formed when sunlight reacts with pollutants and naturally occurring chemicals in the air, damages crops such as wheat, rice and soybeans. The report said crop losses due to ground level ozone are likely to increase over the next two to three decades.

"Until we have a globally coordinated approach that addresses the international nature of the problem, national and even regional level controls are unlikely to deliver the kind of reductions that are necessary to protect human health and the environment,"
