The Weaubleau-Osceola Structure

Many craters on Earth, as well as other planets and moons, point to the action of electric arc machining and not to asteroid impacts.

The Weaubleau-Osceola impact site has confounded geologists since they began to ponder its origin in the early 1950s. The rock strata surrounding the location is compressed and uplifted with pervasive faulting. The extensive fields of breccia convinced most researchers that there had once been extreme volcanic events and other terrestrial processes – most did not consider an impact source until much later.

Amazingly Beautiful and Historic Lighthouses From Around the World

The lighthouse at Okino Gozen Shima sits atop an isolated rock about five miles off of the shore of Jizo Saki. Next to it sits a Shinto shrine, a bit of peace in the middle of the sometimes-dangerous waters.

The Mobile Bay Lighthouse in Alabama proudly stands as a part of the state’s history. It is a great example of a screw-pile lighthouse, and extremely picturesque.

The Cape Hatteras Light no longer stands at the edge of the water; today it is nearly 3,000 feet inland due to erosion. At 208 feet tall, it is the tallest lighthouse in the Western hemisphere, and certainly one of the most photographed in the country.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse has a long and convoluted history, but it still stands as a strong beacon. Once a year the electric lights are changed to kerosene lights, and people come from miles away to see the beautiful lights dance in the dark sky.

"We've done Britney's sets and a whole bunch of rock shows, but this was far more elaborate and complicated and we had to do it in far less time," said Allen, of RDA Entertainment.

Classy, cool, hip, glamorous, even sexy—all these words have been used to describe the presumptive Democratic nominee. He has excited the young, the disenfranchised, the traditionally cynical and apathetic:

And yet we're still not satiated. Or perhaps, more accurately, we're not satisfied: for all we've seen, and read, and been told, both by and about him, there are some things we're still trying to figure out.

But the truth of the matter is that seen up close, the attraction of Barack Obama as a candidate has less to do with the cut of his suits or the fact that he's championed by hip rock singers than with an almost geeky earnestness, a decency and sobriety that he projects when speaking to a crowd. A large part of his mystique lies in his insistence on his message, and on the complexity of that message; and in his old-fashioned, almost stern will to cut the flim-flam and, in a way so retro it's almost novel, to actually address the issues.

Peter Garrett changes tune on uranium mining

PETER Garrett used to rock out to anti-nuclear tunes.

Now the federal Environment Minister has changed his tune, approving a major expansion of Australia's smallest uranium mine.

The Midnight Oil frontman sang against the nuclear industry in the track Maralinga.

"In the wind the ashes fly, the poison crown, the charcoal ground,'' he sang.

Today, he announced he had given the go-ahead to the major expansion of South Australia's Beverley mine, the smallest of Australia's three uranium mines.

The mine, located near the Flinders Ranges 600km from Adelaide, produces 1,500 tonnes of "yellowcake'' - uranium oxide - a year.

"It is incredibly disappointing to see Peter Garrett of all people allowing such a thing to take place, given the current state of water in Australia and in South Australia in particular,'' Senator Ludlam said.

"Candidate McCain criticizes Senator McCain's own climate change bill.
