Then again "my guy" and I were responsible enough to use birth control before marriage and until we were able to afford any children. Of course Palin will help out daughter with the affording part, so it's all good baby. I remember listening to the priest before we got married giving us the big talk about the "rhythm" method; and I was thinking I can't wait to get my rhythm on later baby and I bet he can't either!

He would be the gentleman, she would be the lady, and with the backing of a strong family they would do what was expected of them. That would, of course, be consistent with the views of Ms. Palin, a mother of five children (including one with Down syndrome) who opposes abortion.

But it is teenage marriage today, not teenage pregnancy, that is the rarity. And, statistics show, teenage marriages tend not to endure.

The Bristol Palin drama, something of an after-school-special story running parallel to the saga of Sarah Palin’s nomination as the Republican candidate for vice president, has a lot of sociologists and psychologists talking about youth and the state of marriage.

Studies show that today teenage marriages are two to three times more likely to end in divorce than are marriages between people 25 years of age and older.

Radiohead: In a league of its own

The band's 25-song, two-encore set relied heavily on material from last year's "In Rainbows." The record's opening track, "15 Step," kicked off the show. "Reckoner," also from "In Rainbows," followed. Nine of 10 tracks from "In Rainbows" were performed, with "House of Cards" the lone track not given the live treatment.

While Radiohead didn't dip too far into its back catalog, the band still managed to craft a set list that showcased its amazing talent, especially the skills of multi-instrumentalist and guitar wizard Jonny Greenwood. A stunning rendition of "Street Spirit" was the last song of the first encore. Greenwood not only perfectly delivered his guitar part for the song, but he also managed to play piano with his guitar's head at the same time.

Other highlights included the triple-drum attack of "There There," getting to hear the rarity "Talk Show Host" and Nigel Goodrich, Radiohead's producer, joining the band to play tambourine on "In Limbo."

Three Northwestern University researchers have learned that our solar system in which the Earth orbits our sun is the exception in the Milky Way rather than the rule.

"We now know that these other planetary systems don't look like the solar system at all," said Frederic A. Rasio, senior author of the Science paper, and a theoretical astrophysicist and professor of physics and astronomy at Northwestern. "We now better understand the process of planet formation and can explain the properties of the strange exoplanets we've observed. We also know that the solar system is special and understand at some level what makes it special."

American Tourist Is Reported Killed in Beijing

BEIJING (AP) -- Team officials and state media say a knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two relatives of a coach for the U.S. Olympic men's volleyball team at a tourist site in Beijing.

One of the victims was killed and one was injured in the attck on the first day of the Olympics Saturday.

The man then committed suicide by throwing himself from the second story of the site, the 13th century Drum Tower three miles from the main Olympics site.

The brutal attack shortly after midday was all the more shocking because of the rarity of violent crime in tightly controlled China, which has ramped up security measures even more for the Olympics.

Keren Dunaway was 5 when her parents used drawings to explain to her that they both had the HIV virus - and so did she.

Now the 12-year-old is one of the most prominent AIDS activists in Latin America and a rarity in a region where few children are willing to break the silence and tell their classmates they have HIV for fear of rejection. She edits a children's magazine on the virus.

On Sunday evening, Keren shares the stage with the Mexican president and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as they open an international AIDS conference.

"It's like a little ball that has little dots, and is inside me, sort of swimming inside me," she said in an interview with The Associated Press, curling her fist as she recalls what her parents explained to her with drawings long ago.

Contralto Lorraine Hunt Lieberson will soon have more posthumous records to her name than live ones, so vastly have her recordings sold since her death two summers ago at age 52.

A viola player who found her voice while freelancing in Boston orchestras, Lorraine enjoyed brief fame at the summits of opera before falling victim to breast cancer.

Her Sunday-morning Bach style is reminiscent of Kathleen Ferrier at her most touching and orotund, every consonant an immaculate offering.

In scenes from Handel's "Hercules," a concert rarity, she switches to brimstone and heartbreak, bringing a Purcell-like translucence to the lament, "When beauty sorrow's liv'ry wears." The only shortcoming on this church-owned record of her emergent gifts is the over-friendliness of the accompaniment. Spurred on by fiercer conductors than the resident Craig Smith and John Harbison, Lorraine could -- and did -- melt mountains.

Colombia has changed dramatically since President Alvaro Uribe took office in 2002. Thanks to increased security and stability, Colombia is today a vibrant country with a thriving economy. This success has led his allies in Congress to push for a referendum to change the Constitution for a second time to allow him another term as president. However, changing the rules in the middle of the game isn't good for democracy, regardless of whether it's done by Venezuela's Hugo Chávez and his highly questionable tactics, or by Uribe following the letter of Colombian law. President Uribe is a rarity in Latin American politics: a serious, thoughtful and principled man whose policies have delivered more safety, security, and economic opportunity for his citizens. He should recognize that institutions matter and that they must transcend the virtues of any leader, no matter how formidable.

A plan to lift the ban on coastal drilling is stalled on Capitol Hill, for one simple reason: A Californian who opposes President Bush's proposal is calling the shots in the House of Representatives.

Despite growing public support for ending the ban, even in California, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco said she won't allow the immediate vote the president wants.

SIR David Attenborough has announced a network of Butterfly Survival Zones in a bid to save some of the country's rarest species from possible extinction.

The natural history presenter, who fears we are entering a "post- butterfly era", said a national strategy was needed to reverse the steep fall in numbers.

Conservationists will set to work at 20 key locations, including Dartmoor, the New Forest in Hampshire, and the North Yorkshire Moors, to try to re-establish suitable habitats and encourage new colonies.

Sir David said: "Almost unbelievably, much of Britain's countryside is a no-go area for many favourite butterflies.

"Habitat has been ploughed up or become overgrown. Anybody who's been for a country walk recently will tell you butterflies are a rarity.

The congressional ban on offshore drilling has been in effect since 1981, but Congress must renew it each year. In fact three white cubs were born to another lioness at the zoo in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock, south-west of Hamburg, at exactly the same time.

She however, was happy to raise her litter herself.

Fortunately these two-week-old white lion cubs are in good hands with the zoo keepers adopting the maternal role.

In captivity, both male and female lions, who are unusually social compared to other cats, can live for over 20 years.

The German public has a soft spot for orphaned animals. Knut, the first polar bear born in Berlin Zoo for 30 years, became a national celebrity after his mother rejected him.

Life, however, hasn't been easy for the bear who attracts at least 200 visitors a day.

He is said to have become addicted to human attention. 'Knut is a problem bear who has become addicted to human beings,' German animal rights activist Frank Albrecht said.

Most of our media have been far too busy following the news of what kind of fist bumps terrorists favor, and Luke Russert's exceptional poise under pressure, to notice—well, much of anything. Least of all, the Biblically proportioned drought in one of our nation's fastest growing regions, which is only getting worse, and more consequential for the civilization, by the day.
