Tehran: A married woman last week accused some members of Iranian military police of participation in a group raping of her on November 4, 2009. Iran's Parliament today is said to secretly investigate these claims. A Human Rights Watch report last week also documented at least 3 cases of rape against political dissidents in Iranian prisons.

In the past, Iran's Parliament has been reluctant or unable to investigate criminal or financial matters related to the increasingly powerful Military Police and Revolutionary Guard Corp (RGC).

Blocking emotional memories, the council asserted, risks "falsifying our perception and understanding of the world. It risks making shameful acts seem less shameful, or terrible acts less terrible, than they really are."

A teenager who raped a five-year-old boy days after being spared a custodial sentence for a previous attack has been locked up for almost three years. Skip related content

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to a catalogue of abuse against the five-year-old, including rape and child abduction.

The attack happened eight days after he was given a three-year community order on June 26 for the rape of a seven-year-old boy in Tameside, Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

The boy has been detained indefinitely for the public's protection for a minimum of two years and 359 days before being considered for parole.

Judge Peter Lakin told him: "The offences you have committed are deeply disturbing and very serious. You are a devious and manipulative young man with an unhealthy and completely unacceptable sexual interest in young boys."

"It is likely you will not be released for some very considerable period of time."

Father, 4 Sons Charged in Missouri Child Rape Case

In what investigators are calling a "horrendous" case of child abuse, five members of a Missouri family — a father and his four adult sons — are being charged with a host of shocking crimes against children as young as 11 years old.

Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., 77, and his sons were charged with committing numerous crimes, including child rape, sodomy and using a child in a sexual performance.

Police said Wednesday they were searching for more potential victims, including possible bodies on land owned by the family. Five victims have been located, but the number "could possibly expand," said Cpl. Bill Lowe of the Missouri highway patrol. He said all of the victims were under the age of 12 when they were molested.

The woman said she was forced to have an abortion when she was 11 years old and that she and her four sisters were forced to participate in mock marriage ceremonies before the men had sex with them, according to court documents.

(Newser) – An East Bay witness arrested, then released for lack of evidence, in the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl outside her high school homecoming dance last month said he didn't report the attack because "snitching is something you don't do." Salvador Rodriquez, 21, said he watched as attackers kicked the victim in the head. "They were beating her up, robbing her and ripping her clothes off. It's something you can't get out your mind. I saw some pretty crazy stuff," he added.

Rodriquez approached the victim after the attack at Richmond High School to cover her with his T-shirt, he said. "She' was naked and I reached for her. She started screaming, and I said, 'Hey, I just want to help.'" Another witness told KGO that he watched the attack for 20 minutes and didn't call police because he didn't have a cell phone. "I don't feel like I have any responsibility for anything that happened," he said. Police believe the girl was attacked by as many as 10 young males while others watched.

In 2005, the court ruled that the Eighth Amendment’s ban on “cruel and unusual punishment” prohibited the execution of juvenile offenders. Does sentencing a teenager to die in prison for crimes in which no one was killed also violate the Eighth Amendment?

President Hamid Karzai has signed a law the UN says legalises rape in marriage and prevents women from leaving the house without permission.

Mr Karzai has been accused of electioneering at the expense of women's rights by signing the law to appeal to crucial Shia swing voters in this year's presidential poll

The law, which has not been publicly released, is believed to state women can only seek work, education or doctor's appointments with their husband's permission.

The bill passed both houses of the Afghan parliament, but was so contentious that the United Nations and women's rights campaigners have so far been unable to see a copy of the approved bill.

The Afghan justice ministry confirmed the law had been signed, but said it would not be published until technical difficulties had been overcome.

Tamil refugees — escaping from hell

While two boat loads of Tamil refugees fleeing Sri Lanka push their case to be admitted into Australia, two reports on Sri Lankan atrocities against Tamils have been released without a word from the Australian media or government.

Reports from the United States state department and the European Commission (EC) revealed the extent of the brutal crimes of the Sri Lankan state.

Tamil civilians bore the brunt of the Sri Lankan Army’s campaign — including one night in May when Tamil sources estimated 20,000 civilians were butchered in SLA bombings.

Since the formal end of the war in May, hundreds of thousands of Tamil people have been imprisoned in internment camps, in which torture, rape and disappearances are widely reported.

Sri Lanka’s military campaign against the LTTE was supported by Western powers such as the US and Britain.

Australia also supports the Sri Lankan state. Australia donates $30 million a year to Sri Lanka in aid

On Oct. 24, police say dozens of teens gawked, laughed and took photographs while a 15-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped and beaten outside a Richmond High School homecoming dance.

But one brave girl, who was not even there, wouldn't stand for it.

"I was watching a movie, and my brother-in-law came in and he told me 'I don't know what to do, because there is a girl back there and she has been raped. I'm scared,'" 18-year-old Margarita Vargas said.

"I'm like 'We should call the cops because that's the right thing to do.' I didn't think about it twice."

Vargas said she called police because she would want someone to do the same if she ever was in that situation.

After making the call, Vargas went to the scene to check on the girl.

"I could tell that she had been beat up because her face was swollen," Vargas said. "She was naked, didn't have shoes. They just covered her up and stuff."

Vargas said she would pick up that phone again and call for help. But she also understands why others won't.

Dozens of UN peacekeepers punished for abuses

The United Nations says at least 50 peacekeepers have been punished by national authorities in the last three years for committing sexual abuses while on UN missions.

The data, released Thursday, comes after repeated requests from media for the punishments meted out to peacekeepers accused of rape and other abuses in conflict areas such as Congo, Haiti, Sudan and Ivory Coast.

The UN said the punishments ranged from reduction in military rank to eight months imprisonment.

No data on the nationalities or identities of the peacekeepers were revealed.

The UK arm of the human rights charity Save the Children released a report in 2008 that found more than 50 per cent of 250 boys and girls living in towns in Haiti, Sudan and the Ivory Coast said they knew of at least one incident of coerced sex and sexual touching involving boys and girls in their communities.
