McCain's Gamble On a Woman Create Headache For Obama

clipper's remarks: As governor of Alaska she is about as far removed from Washington as it is possible to be. The McCain campaign intends to contrast that with the inside-Washington double-ticket of Obama and Biden.

Perhaps most impressively, in just a year and a half in office in Alaska she has established a reputation as a tough reformer.

She is also a staunch advocate of expanding domestic drilling for oil, popular among oil-rich Alaska and among Americans as a whole. At her first appearance on the stump yesterday alongside her running-mate, she seemed assured and steady.

But her selection adds a startling new uncertainty into the presidential race, a risky gamble for the Republicans but a complicating headache for the Democrats.

THROUGHOUT their long primary campaign this year, Democrats made much of the fact that their progressive party was presenting a historic choice to the nation; the first black man or woman in the Oval Office.

In her first appearance beside her running-mate yesterday she immediately drove home the point, paying tribute to Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro, who ran as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, saying: "The women of America are not finished yet. We can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all."

Mrs Palin is a strong conservative. She is fervently anti-abortion and this year gave birth to her fifth child, who has Down Syndrome. After the birth she and her husband said: "We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives."

Mrs Palin brings advantages to the campaign as it seeks to defy the odds and win a third straight presidential victory for the Republicans.

She has no connection to the Bush administration, which will help to deflect the Obama campaign's charge that Mr McCain is running for President Bush's third term.

John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate will either turn out to be a brilliant way for the Republican to scramble the race in his favor — or a disastrous pick that is cast as a desperate act.

On the face of it, McCain has failed the ultimate test that any presidential candidate must face in picking a running mate: selecting someone who is unambiguously qualified to be president.

Professor Timothy Groseclose is a professor of political science at UCLA, and was previously a member of the committee that handled undergraduate admissions. That is, until he resigned “in protest, from the committee,” and issued his report on the illegal admission standards being used by UCLA.

There is considerable evidence that high-ranking administration and a controlling block of my committee are engaged in a cover-up - they are preventing me and others from obtaining these data [admissions data] so that the above malfeasance will not be discovered.

lets see you should pin the dog bone to the torque tube,
make sure the tail gears have the grub screws in the shafts,
glue the inner bearing for the torque tube so it doesn't slide around
same for any bearing race especialy the intermediate shaft
check the tail grips frequently to make sure it isn't comeing apart

especialy the pins on the tail slider.

If you do all these you should have trouble free flying

In his analytical eyes of Obama's inexperience -- she's even less qualified and no ones heard of her to boot.. Is this want we want in case of disaster or at 3am? This is either a stupid political move or they are trying to give the race away! If female Hillary supporters jump onboard with this ticket this shows either of two things -- they are racists and can't except Obama in office or it wasn't about Hillary at all it was gender based.. So what does that say about them? ? Perplexing this is I must say..

Blacks won't vote for Obama just because he is black, and women won't vote for women just because of token gender.

I hope we are all SMART enough to look at the issues beyond race or gender.

clipper's remarks: To be fair, it doesn't appear that McCain's pick for VP is a dyed-in-the-wool creationist but she still believes in the absurd notion that biblical creationism has a ligitimate place in the science classroom. Her ridiculous "teach the controversy" stance is of course the back door ploy by religious fanatics to gain a toehold in public classrooms. I don't see them siding with Native American's to teach their particular creation myth.

Intelligent Design and the Alaska Governor's Race

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.
Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, 'Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.'

Asked for her personal views on evolution, Palin said, "I believe we have a creator."

She would not say whether her belief also allowed her to accept the theory of evolution as fact.

"I'm not going to pretend I know how all this came to be," she said.

John McCain shook up the presidential race Friday and targeted disaffected supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton with a vice presidential choice that defied conventional wisdom.

Once again, McCain demonstrated that he was willing to throw a long ball, a Hail Mary pass in a game in which the odds are running against him.

Palin has a distinctive background: the first woman governor of Alaska, an independent-minded reformer elected in 2006.

He called her "a blue-collar conservative woman who will excite the Republican Party and lay out the welcome mat for independents and disaffected Clinton voters."

"Conservatives will be thrilled with this pick," says conservative consultant Greg Mueller,

adviser to Steve Forbes' presidential campaign in 2000.

And he managed instantly to seize the spotlight from Democrat Barack Obama the morning after he accepted the Democratic nomination.

Pat Buchanan called it "the biggest political gamble, I think, just about in American political history."

clipper's remarks: Speculation is that he's the man for McCain. Looks to be a solid but not very exciting pick. He does have more experience that Obama, and would be the only candidate in the race that isn't a US senator and who has executive experience.

From what I can tell, this guy would help more than hurt McCain, but I don't think he would have a major impact either way right away. Looks like he would be a safe pick that could put Minnesota into play, but not an exciting pick like Alaska's Sarah Palin or Oklahoma's Dr. No Tom Coburn or even Joe Lieberman (not that I think he would be a good pick, but he would be exciting).

According to the Dayton Daily News, Sen. John McCain is still giving away tickets to his Friday rally where he will unveil his running mate. He's having trouble filling a 10,000 seat arena.

The contrast with Sen. Barack Obama giving a speech before 75,000 people tonight is striking and speaks to the excitement factor between the candidates. Obama tickets have been sold out for weeks.

So you think your level 70 paladin is pretty boss? Well just think about how much time you spend in World of Warcraft simply running around. These guys set up a simulation that requires one to actually run in order to keep their character going. Check it out:

The awesome guys in this video added a treadmill to their normal joystick and keyboard set-up. Never before have a bike tire and a mouse pad been used to propel a Night Elf.

Personally I was not the least bit surprised by the results. While most things in video games try to replicate real life (which makes them more immersive), the running and flying systems are really just there to move the game along. In the middle ages, people were typically born and then died within a fifty mile area. Clearly that won’t cut it for WoW, a game where you sometimes have to travel to other worlds.
