In an attempt to bring one of the most famous inventions of the 20th century into the digital age, scientists of the "Ambient Intelligence Group" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed the "intelligent stickies". These are essentially Post-its with a twist - the notes written on them can be managed by a PC that will be able to remind users of any information stored on the small paper notes at the appropriate time, via a variety of digital devices. In a project that combines artificial intelligence, RFID, and ink recognition technologies, the MIT team says they have managed to make the popular sticky notes much more useful.

Jan. 18, 2008 -- Sticky note addicts can attest to their usefulness, but their inevitable abundance can sometimes make life even more confusing.

Now researchers have developed electronic sticky notes, called Quickies, that can be searched for digitally and can send reminders and messages via e-mail or a mobile device.

The technology aims to merge digital media with the paper world in a way that improves upon an already ubiquitous method for staying organized.

They look similar to Post-It notes but combine artificial intelligence, natural language processing, ink recognition technologies, and radio frequency identification tags into a modern version of the reliable analog.

HOW TO Quickie: Embedded Flickr Slideshows

Dig those flash Flickr slideshows? All that’s needed is a bit of code to embed them within your website to give your readers something dynamic.

Place this somewhere on your website or within a blog post. Change user_id from 12345678@N00 to your flickr id, which you can find out with this idgettr. Also replace foo with the tags of the photos you wish to display.

Other parameters include the following:

firstIndex=
set_id=
firstId=

For those wondering how I came up with all of this, it was no more than some determined API investigation. If you want to use one of these extra parameters just add it after your user_id with a separating ampersand (&). Don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS feed on your way out. And for those wondering, there is no way to adjust the size of the flash slideshow as it is fixed in size and hosted on flickr.
