How To Online SEO and Internal Linking

First off, my mentor Alex Jeffreys always says to provide extra value in the form of good content…so here we go.

The first thing I did was to change the “privacy” setting to prevent the site from being crawled by the search bots until I have added some content in the form of original posts. We will turn this back on after we have some content in place. Here is how to get there:

At a minimum, you have to have a Contact Page, an About Page, a Privacy Policy Page, and a Site Map Page. The site map page is created with a free plugin, Google XML Sitepmaps.

I tie these all together for easy navigation in a “catergory” that I title “Website Information”. Although these are titled as “pages”, I publish these as “posts” for a very specific reason. I want to use my “pages” for promotional information in the future, and the “posts” will always be used for publishing content and articles (the journal function and aspect of a blog).

Hyperlocal sites, also referred to as local-local or microsites, focus on a very narrow geographical area-- a suburb, a small town or a perhaps a rural county-- that is mot currently well-served by existing media outlets. We have already seen similar efforts by print newspapers in publishing separate "Neighbors" editions for different areas and by local television news in doing "round-ups" of stories from suburbs surrounding the main metro area, but online these efforts can be taken even further.

I enjoyed watching this movie with my cousins. The movie was really funny and romantic. I love the character of Margarete Tate (Sandra Bullock)- she plays an executive chief-editor in a publishing company. I like her because she's strict and selfish but deep inside is a soft and genial heart. Actually I love how the story runs. Yeah, plus the handsome Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) really did a great job- to capture every viewer's hearts. You better watch it. But I was somewhat disappointed because there are "blasphemy" words in some of the dialogs-get rid of it.

An Italian court has cut the sentence given to a convicted murderer by a year because he has genes linked to violent behaviour — the first time that behavioural genetics has affected a sentence passed by a European court. But researchers contacted by Nature have questioned whether the decision was based on sound science.

This Blog's for You: Ten of the best blogs for folks who take kids' lit seriously (but not too seriously)

In the past, librarians relied solely on accredited children's awards, professional reviews from reputable journals and newspapers, and word of mouth from trusted sources to purchase materials. That “word of mouth” hasn't gone away. It has merely transformed itself into an electronic state. Blogs replace nothing and will never replace professional review journals. They supplement them instead. And if the publishing world happens to be listening that's wonderful, but it's not what's driving these sites. Bloggers blog because they love literature written for youth, and they want to share that love with others who feel the same way. Take away the distractions of who might be reading and why, and what you have are people who love what they do and are consistently willing to hear what others have to say. It is a community of people open to anyone who wants to join in the conversation.

For the last nine months, the survival of the Utah State University Press has been in doubt, with fears that deep cuts being made to public higher education in Utah would end up killing off the publishing outlet.

This week comes news that the press will survive -- in part by embracing a new model of organization (becoming part of the university library) and a new business model (embracing open access, in which most publications would be available online and free). While both of those changes are significant, key aspects of the press's identity and mission will not change. It will continue to be a peer-reviewed scholarly publisher, and plans to continue its highly regarded work in fields such as composition studies, folklore, poetry, environmental studies, and the history and culture of the West.

"This is going to be a way for us to extend our reach and build momentum," said Michael Spooner, director of the press.

Does President of SEIU Have Preferential Access To White House?

As far as I can tell, THE Andrew Stern was the top outside visitor to the White House with approximately 20 visits, or about three visits per month, including four relatively small meetings with the president and a dozen with other White House staffers. Stern has openly bragged about the SEIU's $61 million investment in Barack Obama. It certainly bought him a lot of access.

Update: And while we're on the subject of the SEIU, here's an interesting entry: On March 3, ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson met with White House political affairs director Patrick Gaspard, who came to the White House from SEIU. Unsurprising, given the groups' close ties. I wonder what they talked about.

The White House has posted 481 visitor records, covering requested names from the period between January and July. But as White House special counsel Norm Eisen points out, not all the names belong to the people you think they do:

Nevertheless, we were asked for those names and so we have included records for those individuals who were here and share the same names.

I've been playing with the list and figured out a useful tip for weeding out false positives: Look at the "Total people" category in the spreadsheet. The Andrew Stern who had a one-on-one with Rahm Emanuel in February is probably the president of the SEIU. The one who toured the White House with 542 other people is probably a different guy.
