Lets face it, unless you have a photographic memory, no developer can remember all the different functions, options, tags, etc. that exist. Documentation can be cumbersome at times, thats why I like cheat sheets. They are quick references that feature the most commonly forgotten things on a specific topic. You can print them out and hang them on your wall, or just keep them handy in your bookmarks for quick reference.

I have rounded up over 30 cheatsheets that developers might find useful.

We talked about how wrong that is, and how if the glib always win, we all lose. But the more important battle is not between articulate vs. less-articulate people... it's between the articulate vs. non-articulate parts of your own head. Your brain has both a quick-talker and a quick-thinker, but the good-talker "know-it-all" gets the glory. In other words, there's a smart part and a dumb part of your brain, and the problem is...the dumb part talks.

While your brain is chatting away evaluating, judging, instructing, criticizing, directing, etc... the smarter parts sit in the corner, ignored. Alan Kay--often called the father of object-oriented programming and one of the greatest thinkers/researchers/designers/teachers/engineers of our time-- talks about the implications of this for education... something we talked about earlier.

But Alan Kay was inspired by the work of Tim Gallwey, whose work arose from one simple question, "... is all this inner dialogue really necessary? Is it helping...or is it getting in the way?" Until I heard Alan Kay talk about it (and explain some of the cognitive science behind it), I had always thought Gallwey's "inner game" thing was just one more bit of 60's self-help new-age nonsense. Mohir
clipper's remarks: 5) Simulation Engineering
By 2012, an increase in processing power and rich data will make simulations more realistic, and user-friendly. Simulation engineers will be working on bringing us closer to “Star Trek’s” Holodecks—the ultimate total immersion simulation. Simulations will be in every industry and every engineering field,

6) Boomer Caregiving
7) Genetic Counseling
8) Brain Analysts
9) Space Tourism
10) Roboticists

Clip Source: www.dailygalaxy.com

In our information-rich society there is an ever increasing demand for workers in the fields of computers, health care, science and space technology—much of it driven by the demands of the retiring baby boomers. If you like to plan ahead, here is sampling of some of the jobs that will be hot in the next several years and beyond.

1) Organic food Industry

By 2010, organic food and beverage will represent about 10 percent of
the total market — a tenfold increase from 1998

2) Computational Biology

There is a growing need to combine computer science, biology and math
to make sense of research data in massive quantities,

3) Parallel Programming

By 2012, computers will jump from core duo processors to multi-core
processors — as many as 80 processors per machin

4) Data Technology

Data technologists
build structures—real and virtual—that turn the pile of data into
something meaningful and beautiful,

Tags: future, work, jobs

<clipSource>http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2008/08/future-top-10-h.html</clipSource>

Traits of Stress-Hardy, Resilient People

clipped by: MomLes

Clip Source: stresstopower.com

They have a sense of meaning, direction, and purpose

They realize that the quality of our lives depends on how we focus our attention and our energy.

They don’t judge themselves or others harshly when things go wrong.

They are able to tolerate ambiguity, uncertainty, and imperfection

They are reasonably optimistic and have a sense of humor

They take responsibility for their mental programming, their emotions, and their actions.

They look at adversity as a challenge rather than as a threat.

They respect themselves and other people.

They are grateful for the good things in their lives.

They know how to mourn the inevitable losses in life. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz had been trying to make computing more accessible to their undergraduate students. One problem was that available computing languages like Fortran and Algol were so complex that you really had to be a professional to use them.

So the two professors started writing easy-to-use programming languages in 1956. First came Dartmouth Simplified Code, or Darsimco. Next was the Dartmouth Oversimplified Programming Experiment, or Dope, which was too simple to be of much use. But Kemeny and Kurtz used what they learned to craft the Beginner's All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, or Basic, starting in 1963.

The college's General Electric GE-225 mainframe started running a Basic compiler at 4 a.m. on May 1, 1964. The new language was simple enough to use, and powerful enough to make it desirable.

Tags: basic, computers, history

<clipSource>http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/04/dayintech_0501</clipSource>

HTML Joke

clipped by: coconutshell
clipper's remarks: I like the comments.

Clip Source: www.neatorama.com

Visual html joke.

If you laughed at this picture, then you are an html geek. I laughed! Now I understand why letters that lean are called italic. -via Militant Platypus

That’s just silly.
If it’s already leaning, it doesn’t require the italic tags (probably already in the stylesheet).
