The only way to do this effectively (and I know the horse is already dead but I'll keep beating it anyway) is overhead. The more you can reduce your overhead while delivering services through effective use of technology, the more you have the flexibility to accommodate your clients while still turning a profit with creative pricing structures (as the law permits).

As children grow, they develop their way of thinking, habits and behaviors. Some children, not having a good parental assistance may show development trends that differ from those having good parental guidance.

One of the things that parents could do to help their children in their everyday life is to enhance their mental capacities.

As such, parents can encourage their children to read books.

Children who do such activities on a regular basis can achieve a better logical thinking than those who do not.

Moreover, another brain developing practice for children is memory exercises. Memory exercises are one of the easiest practices for children as they can be done anywhere.

Furthermore, an interesting brain developing activity for children is the use of the least active hand for writing or drawing. Drawing one half of a picture with the most active hand and afterwards completing the other half with the non dominant one can be a good learning option for children. D

Enter the meditative practice of mindfulness. Born of Buddhist roots, it's increasingly recognized as a measure to calm the mind's chatter and elevate the brain's thinking and organizational processes.

"The uncertainty of tomorrow creates a lot of the angst or discomfort," says Scott Rogers, director of the Institute for Mindfulness Studies in Miami Beach. "People are looking more and more to bring a little bit of 'ahhh ...' Not just stress reduction, but allowance and acceptance."

Mindfulness is built around the premise of disengaging from overly emotional responses and extraneous thoughts that clutter the mind's ability to think clearly. By using techniques such as breathing, visual imagery and meditation to slow down and focus on the present, the theory goes, a person can tap into a higher level of awareness

Synod Asked to Restore Deleted Biblical Women

Nearly 20,000 Catholics from around the world have sent paper and electronic postcards to Vatican organizers of the Synod on the Word and to their Bishop delegates, asking them to restore women leaders such as Mary of Magdala and Phoebe to lectionary texts from which they have been deleted. The Synod begins October 5 in Rome, and will be in session until October 27.

Spearheaded by the Cleveland based FutureChurch, the two year project also asks synod leaders to invite women biblical scholars, devote greater pastoral attention to the inclusive practice of Jesus and St. Paul and expand preaching opportunities for women.

A fascinating 1996 analysis by Sr. Ruth Fox OSB found a disproportionate number of passages about women were deleted from the lectionary, a book of biblical passages carefully chosen for church proclamation.

Barack Obama said Saturday of John McCain: "My opponent supports tax havens that let companies avoid paying taxes here in America -- tax havens that cost $100 billion every year." CNN says that statement is True, but incomplete, saying McCain had spoken out against the offshore banking practice in the past and he advocates cutting tax rates in the United States to make moving offshore less attractive.

Visit Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, and you'll see rows upon of obsolete F-4 Phantom II aircraft – or at least their gutted carcasses.

For many years, it has been common practice to resurrect these deceased planes as QF-4 unmanned drones, so that they can have a brief and undignified existence as "full-scale aerial targets.

Some 230 Phantoms have been through this resurrection process since 1995. It costs about $800,000 U.S. per aircraft. The tail and wingtips are painted orange to they can be easily distinguished from manned aircraft. Typically they are flown several times

Why is news about others so irresistible?

our fixation on popular culture reflects an intense interest in the doings of other people; this preoccupation with the lives of others is a by-product of the psychology that evolved in prehistoric times to make our ancestors socially successful

. Most researchers agree that the practice involves talk about people who are not present and that this talk is relaxed, informal and entertaining. Typically the topic of conversation also concerns information that we can make moral judgments about.

Although everyone seems to detest a person who is known as a “gossip” and few people would use that label to describe themselves, it is an exceedingly unusual individual who can walk away from a juicy story about one of his or her acquaintances, and all of us have firsthand experience with the difficulty of keeping spectacular news about someone else a secret.

gossip is one of the best tools that we have for comparing ourselves socially with others

Washington state officials have banned a procedure that uses tiny fish to nibble dead skin off the feet of customers getting pedicures.

Peridot Nail Salon in Kent began offering the procedure several weeks ago, with customers paying $30 to have small, toothless carp tickle their toes for 15 minutes.

But the state Department of Licensing decided the procedure was unsanitary and potentially unsafe, and Thursday declared it illegal.

Agency spokeswoman Christine Anthony says state law requires that all implements in pedicures be sanitized, and there's just no way to sanitize live fish.

Fish pedicures created something of a splash in the D.C. area this past summer, where a northern Virginia spa offered similar pedicures. John Ho, who runs the Yvonne Hair and Nails salon with his wife, Yvonne Le, began offering the practice in March and said 5,000 people had taken the plunge as of July.
